We are going down to Disney Oct 4 and returning from Florida Oct 20 or 21 and then going back down to Disney Nov 11 and returning from Florida Dec 6. - a 21 or 22 day gap between the two trips.

My fear is the 90-81-77-26-95 route will be worse because of snow and ice. Should we do the 95S route then. Please any help is greatly appreciated. In my experience, 81 to 77 to 26 to 95 should be no snowier or icier than 95 (I don't know about 90). These are heavily traveled interstates, and their condition should be no worse than 95 unless maybe snow or ice is actively falling while you are driving. The only possible issue compared to 95 would be a few of the hilly parts of 81, but personally I wouldn't hesitate to take this route as long as I was also willing to take the 95 route. You may feel differently, though, and there's no point in taking a route that makes you feel uncomfortable for any reason.

I suggest planning to take the 90-81-77-26-95 route. If the weather is really bad at the time of your trip, you can always take 95 if you are concerned. Have a great trip!

In January we are going to be driving to Disney. Mapquest says that it is 1900 miles 1 way. with 5 kids i'm a little nervous to say the least.

Has anyone else driven from Minnesota/North Dakota and if so what routes have you taken especially in the winter. Are the only crazy ones attempting this?

I think you are very brave driving down from the Midwest in the winter. It can be very tricky from here, what with all the lake effect snow we get. I know of one family who went to visit realtives in Virginia over Christmas and they got stuck 2 hours from home for 3 days because of the lake effect snows. Don't know if you will encounter any lake effect or general snow, but I still think you are brave. It also could be loads of fun, going from snow to grass and palm trees.

One January trip we took the 81-77-26-95 Southbound no problem but the day we were to come home, snowstorms were moving through that area. We didn't take the chance so we headed straight up 95. We started to come upon snow in the Richmond area and stopped for the night. Whenever we travel in the winter, we keep our schedule a little loose in case we have to leave earlier or later. You may not be able to do that but if you keep an eye on the Weather Channel you'll know what to do.

we do the same thing. we also bring a snow shovel,blankets and we allways have food in the car. (never know when your going to be spending the night in a parking lot)

We leave Feb 26th and return April 3rd, a total of 2752.42 miles round trip. As we are driving from Southern Ontario (I81 and I95 route), we are always
careful to listen to the weather reports and prepare for winter weather. This year we will have the flexibility to choose our travel days which is something we have never been able to do, when we were doing the 24 hour Spring Break drive. Safe Driving everybody! I am really glad we chose to drive this year, for two reasons, 1. airfare prices and 2. rental car prices

We are fast approaching our 2000 mile road trip. I have been following this board (not posting much though) and getting some great tips. We are coming from Dallas. Our plan is to drive through the night on the way down (fueled by excitement and adrenaline) and stop in Mobile overnight on the way home. Has anyone else made this drive?

What route do you take? We drive down from South Bend and it's only about 2300 miles RT for us.

We live near Plymouth,IN and it's right at 2250 RT for us too. Not a bad trip. Much cheaper than flying and with three drivers, straight through overnight is a snap. Dinner on the road, fast food, breakfast in Valdosta, GA, and a late lunch at Downtown Disney! An awesome way to go. Especially with a 2+ hour trip to a major airport, driving makes sense to us.

We leave a week from today on Oct. 4. Can't wait, we are going to MNSSHP for the first time ever. It is just Hubby and myself and he is the only driver so we plan on stopping along the way in Georgia.

We are leaving Oct 7 and I am very excited by the local gas prices. We have two stations , right across the street from each other, currently at $2.17. Hoping for something around $2 by trip time.
