Day 2 drive complete, and it couldn't have gone any better. We left Greenville around 8:30 am and arrived in Orlando at 5:30 pm. No traffic issues outside of a slight 5-minute backup, a quick t-storm that caused a slight slow down, and that's it! My faith in road tripping has been restored.

We went to Downtown Disney last night, and parking was expectedly unpleasant. Although, if it wasn't for two instances of poor parking lot etiquette by others, I would have gotten a spot in the lot by the Marketplace. As it was, we parked across the street in the auxiliary lot and had a quick 3-minute walk to the DTD entrance. Not bad at all!

Now we're off for a quick bite for breakfast, and then on to our Disney resort!

So sorry you had such an awful start to your vacation! We are actually heading out from MN in 4 days for the long drive too. Where was the construction in Indiana? Do you think we'll have issues with it too?

Thanks!

I don't remember the exact mile marker, but I know it was on I65 between exits 76 and 68. We were going to stop for lunch at exit 76, but decided to wait a little bit. The backups happened shortly after that. They cleared up just before exit 68, where we pulled off for (a now late) lunch. And it was off of this exit that we couldn't get back on to I65 because the ramp was closed. I don't remember the nature of the construction, so I can't say if you'll run into the same problem.

That's south of Indianapolis, right? What route did you take to get from I-65 to I-75 (and the Smokies)? Seems like you passed by my normal route, 74-275-75 (leave I-65 nearly Indianapolis and pick up I-75 just south of Cincinnati). All I can think of is 265-64-75 or 264-64-75 (leave I-65 in Louisville and pick up I-75 in Lexington).

Hope you're having fun.

One other question. The M inside the state of Wisconsin. What does that represent? Possibly my alma mater?

Marquette, class of 1981. Ring Out Ahoya!!!

forgot to mention........... tomorrow????????

hitting the teens!!!!! 19 days to go!!!! :dance3:

I wont be around to much the next couple days. in the office tomorrow, a lot of running on Friday, my 24th (give or take a year) birthday on Saturday and sitting on the sofa on sunday. :lmao:

Happy Birthday David!! Mine was on the 17th, now it makes sense why we get along so well. :rotfl:

Tomorrow I hit the two week mark!!! I don't think I'm going to make it that long!!! Lol I'm still trying to decide if I'm going 81/77/26 or going 81/66/17/95. You can tell I'm getting old!!! I'll probably drive half way to Florida with my left hand turn signal on!!! Lol

Thank you and happy 29 to you!!! Looks like August must be the months that drivers are born. lol.
Work!!! It always gets in the way!! Lol I was always wondering if I could retire? One of my clients just turned 63 last year and he was the same way, wasn't sure if he could not go to work. He bought a huge motor home and spent three months in Arcadia Florida this past winter. I was sending him pictures of his house in all the snow last winter. He said you get use to it pretty quick!! Lol he is going down Black Friday this year and will be back end of March. The only thing was he kept asking his wife what day is it. She went out and got him a clock with the day on it. She told me he was driving her nuts asking what day is all the time!!! Lol she took early retirement a few years ago so she was use to it. They are looking for a place in Bradenton. I said Bradenton? That's where all the old people live!! Lol I won't post what he said I will get thrown off the boards! Lol

anyone hear from mr and mrs bc? hope your return trip home is going well. :thumbsup2

We are home. In fact we arrived home at 1:45 a.m. this morning after departing the GF at 8:40 a.m. on Sunday. Foolishly, we pushed ahead because we were well into VA by dusk. Instead of stopping at a Cracker Barrel and checking into a Holiday Inn Express, we forged ahead with no dinner meal to accomplish the straight-through drive. Mistake. Mistake. Will not make that error again in October.

Our departure to WDW info:

8/14 at 8:45 p.m.

DE: 10:29 p.m.
MD: 10:45 p.m. (three lanes to one due to construction at Baltimore tunnel)
VA: 1:02 a.m. (three lanes to one due to construction along mile markers 160s and 150s.
NC: 4:12 a.m. nap time
SC: 8:39 a.m.
GA: 12:19 p.m.
FL: 2:19 p.m. checked in at HI DTD at 6:10 p.m. We stayed a second night and did Epcot (via taxi) and DTD (via WDW bus) and a walk back to HI. The next morning we checked into the GF for the week and only put 12.6 miles on our vehicle, the fewest miles we ever registered at WDW.

Looking forward to drive #34 in October.

All the best. :thumbsup2

Hello, we have been to Disney twice before and have always flown. We are considering an imprompto trip and we are driving. Is anybody on here from Omaha or even Kansas City area any tips? We have done lots of 20+ hour road trips before to visit family but we have never driven to Disney. If we do this we will leave this Sat!!!!!!!!! We do plan on driving as far as we can on Sat (at least 12 hours) and arriving at AOA on Sunday.

We are having a great time. Every trip is different, but in a very magical way.

This might be information overload, but Google Maps and my GPS had me going I94-294-80-65-64-75-640-40-26/74-26.

Nah, I never applied myself enough in school to get into a college like Marquette. I was just lucky enough for the local tech school to take me. The blue M in the Wisconsin is actually an alternate logo for the Milwaukee Brewers from the 70's, before the old ball and glove logo that everyone knows.

Off to Epcot for a few rides on Malestrom before they give it the Frozen treatment, and then our anniversary dinner at Rose and Crown, followed by illuminations!

No, I understood it perfectly. :) That's what I get for living in Milwaukee for four years; living in Kentucky most of my life and having in-laws live close to the Smokies.

You went through Louisville; not Cincinnati. I could have swore the Cincinnati route was shorter. But the Louisville route was shorter...by less than ten miles. You probably wished you took the Cincinnati route though.

Oh well.

Should have known that. I went to quite a few Brewers games in the late 70s and early 80s when I was in college. However, I think they had the ball and glove logo by then.
