Gas prices had stagnated for a few weeks, but over the past few days I have been seeing $2.29 popping up here and there.

I'd be in heaven, gas hasn't dropped below 3.50 here

I'm sure you mean $3.29.

Watched a video the other day of our trip from 2009, and I was bragging that I'd filled up the night before our departure at $1.97..

Given its in the $3.20's, now, that's what, a 65% increase in 4 years...

Have noticed some post-Easter backing-off on prices, and what few refiners haven't yet finished gearing up for their summer gasoline formulations should be doing so shortly, so hopefully things continue to moderate at least some.

Ugh. Gas prices just went up two cents in this neighborhood. And they had gone down two cents just a few days ago. :sad1:

All the best. :thumbsup2

When I budget for gas on gasbuddy I always like checking the gas charts and seeing how much it has gone up and down the past ten years or so, it is crazy. It's why I add ~100 to that budget because you just don't know...

Yep, our trip January 2009. 100 gallons of gas at $1.89, total trip $189.00
Recent August 2012 trip, 100 gallons at $3.89, total trip $389.00.

That's double!! Still cheaper than flying but not as cheap as it once was. Sad :worried: :( Just so some speculator can make an extra buck or two!!:furious:

I know it. You've got the same gas budget I do - 100 gals. I cuss and swear at the gas price (well, maybe only Yosemite Sam swearing), but I'd pitch a hissy fit if I were looking at airfare x 5. So I bite my lip, load up the van, and off we go :)

On the road in four days. I've pretty much settled on the inland route again. Anyone been that way in the last few weeks who can give me a heads up to anything I might need to be aware of? Looks like I might be doing the driving this trip instead of dh. Since we got the van a year ago, he lets me do all the driving. The furthest I've gone is OC, MD, so this will be a new experience.

I have a question for CT drivers. I have a friend leaving from the Groton area around 2:00 this Friday afternoon. They would like to take the inland route to avoid most traffic but should they head down the Merritt to the Tappan Zee Bridge or will they hit rush hour traffic? Is there a better way to go?

Thanks!!

Personally, if I were taking the inland route from CT, at that time of day I would just take I-84 west across the bridge in Newburgh and pick up I-81 south in Scranton, PA. IMHO

Avoid New York City and New Jersey all together.

This. We like to take 84 to the Newburgh bridge and then down the NY thruway to the Garden State. But at that time of day your friends are leaving - probably not fun. As it is, it always seems like we sit in Waterbury when we travel out 84 after 2pm any weekday. (We have family near Danbury)

Thank you both for replying. So they should head up route 2 to 84 and then across the Tappan Zee? I think that's the way they went last year and ended up in traffic in Hartford and Waterbury. Is that better than hitting the traffic in NY and Nj?

thanks so much!

I think 9 to 84 would be a bit better. Then just I-84 through CT into NY, then PA. No use the Tappen Zee at all. Imho, better than NJ rush hour traffic, and I live in NJ!

Well!!! Things are good, still moving into the house LOL. Busy with work, girl scouts, band, chorus, performing arts classes ......

We may just have to plan a trip up there! We usually go to the Reading Phils, that's only about 1/2 hour away from us. We've never seen the Iron Pigs but now that we know somebody on the "inside" we must see them! Do you guys go to games? Maybe we could plan on something together, it would be great to see you and Tammy, it's been WAAAAAY too long. We're certainly major Phillies fans here, watching right now!

We are staying at Bonnet Creek for our next trip. Just couldn't justify the cost of a thanksgiving week trip with no discounts onsite, so we're going to try it. We figure it's going to be the same distance to everything as OKW and since they don't do any EMHs that week, we won't miss anything. We'll be there for 9 nights, total cost $1080 for a 2 bedroom, almost a third of the cost of a Family Suite, a quarter of the cost for a cabin and a sixth of the cost of a 1BR at BWV or OKW. I think our whole trip should cost about the same as a villa alone for that time.

Have a great time on your next trip. Will Star Wars weekend be going on when you're there? We'd love to do that but it's a rough time to take the kids out of school. Maybe someday.

Hope all is well with you guys, and your straight A awesome kid too! Tell everyone we said Hi!

Wish us luck everyone! We are leaving Maine in about an hour for the VERY long 24 hour drive to the World. We have four drivets so we are (stupidly?) going to do the drive straight through.
