Yes, a pleasant surprise.

And, indeed, our paths did not cross. Nor did we manage to meet sharadoc. We were dining at the Caliormia Grill on the night your photo at HS was taken. Still, we spent time with Fwd Facing Tentacles.

Now then: we arrrived home this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. Uneventful; no major traffic.

And it's time to update the all-time "For 2,000+ Mile Round-Trip Drivers Only!" records....

All the best. :thumbsup2

the first 2000 plus mile club meet!!! sharadoc and dvczerfs!!! sharon, it was a pleasure meeting you and your family. hopefully we can get together in june and have dinner together. we will be going june 16th till the 27th. :thumbsup2

The highlight of the trip!! So great to meet the ZERFS and spend some time chatting and hanging at the Osborne Lights. Plus I learned to text faster too!

It was a 2 day scavenger hunt, with constant ride and transportation updates until the quest ended and the meet finally happened! I just know that we will all get along great and we've found some great DIS friends! We absolutely hope we can schedule that dinner in June!

Speaking of dinner, our 6 month window is opening soon! Where should we go? Maybe the Graduate/foodie of the group should pick!

BC!! hope you had a good time!! we were just never at the same place at the same time. im sure we will meet in the up coming trips.:thumbsup2

Yes, sorry that we couldn't meet. Will you be coming down in June??

Indeed. We plan on being there in late June, just as long as we are there on June 26, our anniversary.

However, no way can we wait only until June. :hourglass

All the best. :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 glad you made it home safely sharon!!!:thumbsup2 i have to tell you, the night we met up at the light show, dw and dd came over after i did. on the way, in the crowd, my wife tripped over a stoller. she lost her vision in her left eye due to a tumor, and we will find out wednesday if the radiation worked or not. when she got to me, she was upset. crying. she said she feels like a fool tripping over stuff. the stroller came up on her left side and never seen it. she said the lady was fine and the kid wasnt in the stroller. i told her i tripped over strollers in the crowd dont worry about it.when we walk, ill walk on her left so i can stop her from running into things. i felt realy bad for her so if she seemed quiet it wasnt you, she just wasnt feelin to good. ;) looking forward to meeting up in june. hopefully we will get good news on wednesday, we are going down to jefferson univ. in philly. again, it was a pleasure meeting you guys.:thumbsup2

Oh, please no need to apologize. I'm sorry that she had an accident. I'll keep you in my thoughts on Wednesday hoping for great news.

Yesterday took forever! We didn't get out until close to noon, then we stopped at a CRACKER BARREL (never again!) and it took over an hour to get our meal, so that set us back a long time too. We got to our hotel by 11, then left this morning at 8:30. We are seriously considering a straight through drive next time.

I'll do a full report tomorrow hopefully. We found some good things on the road this time.

We arrived home today just before 1pm. We had left the Beach Club yesterday around 11am, and stopped in Emporia, VA last night. Drove through a driving rain storm for the last 50 or so miles before calling it a night. Took 17 North at Fredericksburg this morning to avoid the Redskins game day traffic in DC. All in all, another great trip. (#11)Total mileage from trip: 2,002 miles.

that was the rain we hit in the carolinas on sat. glad you had a good trip.:thumbsup2

I am thinking we will take 15 from Harrisburg and pick up 95 in Frederickburg, VA that is what we do when we go to Myrtle Beach which we haven't done for awhile cause I had enough of the drive. I know we will leave around 5 am on a weekday or earlier if need be. We also looked into the auto train a friend says they drive one way and take the auto train back the other but it is not cheap.
Thank you for your imput:)

Pam

That's the way I think we will go the next time. Avoid DC but still be on 95 most of the way. And no mountains.

Wow! We use 295 around Jacksonville now, so we don't see it.

Interesting. Coincidentally, our goal after departing WDW is either Emporia or Petersburg, VA. Still, the shorter 350-ish mile second leg of the drive home always seems longer than the first day of driving.

All the best. :thumbsup2

As we approach the end of the year, dvczerf's 49 drives seem to be in the Favre-Ripken category. :worship:

This is our first ever road trip to Disney. We will be going May 2011. We have never driven to disney. We will have 2 kids with us. 4 and 8. I plan on purchasing a dual dvd player for the ride. We are booked to be at disney on May 28 (saturday). Our plan is to leave at 1:00am May 27 Friday. Drive until Friday night and stay overnight wherever we are and do the rest of the drive to Disney on Saturday. Any tips on if this is a good leaving time, places to avoid driving through, tips on driving with kids? Etc....

An ideal drive places you in Lake Buena Vista in the a.m. of your first booked evening. This way, you arrive at your hotel in the morning. And while your room will probably not be ready, you can store your bags and enjoy the time in the parks. Easier said than done, however. From our location at the Jersey Shore we can accomplish that by departing no later than 3 a.m. on a weekend (earlier on a weekday...especially Friday...in order to avoid the greater DC rush hour traffic problem). We book a non-Disney hotel in Lake Buena Vista (at a comparatively very low rate) and the next morning we're having breakfast at WDW. Leaving from Massachusetts makes it difficult to get to Lake Buena Vista in one day, but the closer you get to WDW on your first day of driving the better. Once you reach the FL border it's approximately three hours to WDW. An overnight stop in Jacksonsville is good; Palm Coast is better; Deltona even better.

With valuable family members aboard make a drive that makes the most sense safety wise. Time is important on a drive but the overall safety and health of your family is most important.

All the best. :thumbsup2

We are thinking of driving next October with my three kids from Wisconsin! A couple of years ago we drove to Yellowstone but did not have the baby with us. This time he will be turning two at Disney, hopefully things will go well!
