Foods with suspicious names

A Brit chipping here here..

We do indeed have some odd names!

Welsh Rarebit or Welsh Rabbit ( cheese on toast )

Eggs and soldiers ( a soft boiled egg served with toast which has been cut into lines to look like soldiers to dip on the runny egg )

Shepard's pie ( there are no shepard's in it lol it's usually lamb with mashed potato on top, different from cottage pie which is typically beef mince )

Yule log ( not as indigestible as it seems... a chocolate swiss roll made to look like a log typically made at Christmas time )

Yorkshire puddings ( but you have them with your entree )

Also for fun we put a coin in the Christmas pudding and the winner is the one who finds it and usually chokes...

Sam thing with Rocky Mountain Oysters. ;)

OK - I succumbed to curiosity and looked this up. :scared1:

A typical Vietnamese sandwich place has a "#1" that's made with head cheese. They might call it "ham" though as to no scare off too many people.

And of course the main ingredient:

Probably a combination of lean cuts of ham mixed with snouts and ears. Makes me hungry.

Yummy - I love Bahn Mi sandwiches. I do block out any thought of whatever is in it.

Your Beer ( as in American beer ) looks suspiciously like our larger ... :-) ( UK larger )

We were in the supermarket in the international foods section and saw C*ck Flavored Seasoning.

It turned out to be chicken but it sure gave us a surprise. And a laugh.

I was a bit put off by being offered eggplant when first coming to the States until I realised it was what we call Aubergine!

My friend moved to Ireland and once wanted to make her friends Mexican food, but she couldn't find cilantro anywhere! No one had heard of it. She didn't know they called it coriander.

Sent from me.

The term "pulled pork" grosses me out. It makes me think of pulling meat off bones. The food itself is fine (bbq shredded pork), but the name makes me want to be a vegetarian.

There is a sandwich chain here called Roly Poly. Gross. I know the sandwiches are just rolled somehow, but I will never eat at one.

it gets very confusing! Like an Entree over here is a starter or appetiser not the main meal. When first ordering I thought gosh that's a big starter lol...

Yep, a local market sells powdered C*ck Soup Mix. I think it's from Jamaica.

I have a few friends from the UK. Talking food is always interesting. I learned the other day a biscuit is a cookie in the UK. Love me some bangers and mash though!

I also love bangers and mash. Couldn't wait to have that at R&C last year when we went. That and the sticky toffee pudding.

OP, sorry for the side track. Now back to the topic....

But that's what pulled pork is. The meat is pulled off the bone (by hand).

Poutine, sounds gross but I like it!

ahhh...slub gullion! I haven't heard that in years! My mom would throw stuff together and call it that. Of course, there were 8 kids in our family, you made do with what ya had!

"sop-sop" was when we took hunks of bread and cleaned out the pan that my mom used to cook meat in (only when she didn't need it to make a gravy with!)

And is "Chop Suey" middle America's attempt at Chinese food? Never see it on a Chinese food menu around here.

Calf fries. :rotfl2:

We asked a local what calf fries were when we visited Fort Worth. She couldn't believe we really didn't know what they were.

Souse (It's been years, but it sounds a lot like head cheese.)
Tongue (Have you ever seen a whole tongue? Creepy.)
Pickled pigs feet

Chop Suey is like beefaroni isn't it? Ground meat, spaghetti sauce and macaroni.
