My DW and I had dinner at Jiko a few weeks ago. Soo yummy.
Bread with sundried tomato butter.
We shared the Pokanoket Farm Seared Ostrich Filet - with creamed sweet potatoes and pomegranate gastrique. I have no idea what a pomegranate gastrique is, but the Ostrich was amazingly good. It was tender, juicy and absolutely the best steak I've ever tasted. It was very hard to share this with DW.
For my entree, I had the Swahili Curry Shrimp - with East African Curry Sauce, Artichokes, and Coconut Rice. Mmm..I love curry and I love shrimp, so this was perfect for me. It was also a huge portion, so if you are looking for something to split, this would be ideal. It is spicy, but I love spicy, so I was happy.
DW got the Nantucket Scallops - with Butternut Squash Gratin, Apple Slaw, and Apple Vinaigrette. I had no idea that there was a Nantucket in Africa! Regardless of where the scallops were from, they were also quite tasty. She got 4 large scallops on top of the squash with the apple slaw next to it. Quite the pretty presentation.
Dessert time! I had to try the passionfruit panna cotta with roasted pineapple, spiced caramel, and coconut-curry sorbet. I haven't ever even heard of a panna cotta before and curry ice cream sounded really interesting. It was actually quite good! the panna cotta was like a vanilla flan and got a lot of flavor from the curry ice cream. I love pineapple, so anything with sweet pineapple appeals to me. I would get this again, it was that good.
DW got the House-Made Meyer Lemon Curd - With pomegranate and blueberry compote, white chocolate biscotti, and sour cream ice cream. She liked the lemon curd, but didn't seem that thrilled with the sour cream ice cream. She said it was "an interesting mix of flavors".
