Food kicks?

I go on fruit-jags, especially when something new comes into season. Right now I'm on my second 5lb box of mandarin oranges since they appeared in stores last week. I eat 7 or 8 a day and will probably munch through 50lbs between now and the end of the holidays, at which point I won't have another one again until next November (although they may be available, those suckers are dreadful when they're out of season and also extremely expensive).

Pho
My top 3 places:
The little mom-n-pop place by the mall (open lunch only)
The family run restaurant by the grocery stores (open dinner only)
The bigger known place by where we used to live (open lunch/dinner)

Also, Hi-Chews. I'm seriously excited over these. Never had them before, and saw them when DD#2 and I were at the Asian market one day. I've gone through 6 packages in the last month.

Before that, it was jelly beans. Gimbals (which I like a bit more than Jelly Belly)....especially their sours

26 years ago when I was pregnant with my first child, I had a strong aversion to spaghetti sauce. It happened again in each of my two subsequent pregnancies. I never fully recovered and have used it very sparingly ever since. But lately, I've been craving spaghetti and meatballs. I could make it for dinner every night if it weren't for the fact that I'm feeding two other people around here who want a bit more variety. ;)

I'm with you. For me it's the green grapes that are out now. They're huge and really sweet and have a bit of a snap when you bite into them.

Possibly totally unrelated, but once my cousins and I went into the Spec's Smith Superstore (it's a liquor store but SO much more). Well if there's something you want to try, they will open it right there and let you try it free of charge. We were looking at the strange and "foreign" candies and had picked out this and a Cadbury Crunchie to try. We didn't want to be having them open 2 so we went with the crunchie. I quickly became addicted and was buying them at my local Specs until they discontinued them. It seems "foreign" candy is the best!

Is the same Specs that they have in TX? Because if so they have delicious homemade chips.

I get on kicks. Last week it was salad. This week is cucumbers.

Berries are going out now but at the beginning of the season I'll eat 1/2 thing of raspberries a day (stuff a little chocolate chip in them... so good ).

One and the same! ThemSmith Superstore is the original in Houston. I'm down near Corpus Christi and I think they are converting almost all the mom n pop liquor stores to Specs!

Sorry if this is TMI but every month at "that time of the month" I crave Gummy Worms. And not the name brand one (like Black Forest) the store brand one (Sunny Select).

Ever got on a crazy food kick? Ugh for some reason almost every night lately I crave a bean burrito from Taco Bell. I'm pretty sure I've had one the last 5 nights. What's your craziest food kick?

lol, that made me laugh, I get that all the time just some food I want liek you for 4-5 nights in a row, and it always seems to be at night as Im getting read to sign off the dis. This isnt an odd one but if its n the hosue, love to get me some Oreo and milk before bed

I like a night time bowl of cereal myself! :)

You would get along with my 10 year old daughter. When apples are in season in the fall and cheap she will eat 5-8 a day if not more. Clementines are her favourite and she will polish off half a 5 lb case in an afternoon. If she's watching a movie and eating them the table beside her is piled high with the peels! I remember her first clementine season when she was barley a year old. She went nuts over those things. She would get so excited to see them in the shopping cart and would bounce up and down in the seat, she would eat them the entire day non stop and you'd have to cut her off! She's a vegetarian and gets excited to see spinach and kale on her dinner plate, my other two kids are not like her at all.

Yeah, I didn't get into apple season too much this year - it seems like we're getting less and less fruit from the B.C. Okanagan as time goes on (apparently 1,000's of fruit trees have been cut down and orchards turned into vineyards). Now most of the apples come from places like Washington State or even Chile. There's practically no Ontario produce shipped west.

:scared1: Aak! Speaking of food-jags, for a long while DS was eating 5 or 6 eggs a day, mostly I think because they were easy. I got in the habit of buying a dozen every time I went into a store but apparently he's sick of them now because I just noticed there are almost 3 dozen stacked up in there. Anybody got any ideas on how to use up a lot of them quickly?

Deviled eggs, quiche, breakfast frittata...

Cupcakes
Brownies
Ice cream

Thanks, but I'm actually almost gagging at the thought of it. It'd take 3 people a loooong time to eat 3 dozen deviled eggs! :rotfl:

Since I posted I've remembered that my DGrandma used to make an angelfood cake and a pound cake at the same time - one used a dozen whites and the other used the yolks. Nobody around here eats much homebaking but I may give it a go for old-times sake, and to use up those damned eggs!
