FOOD FRENZY: 21 Days of disney dining with pics! -COMPLETED!

Thanks for the comments. So true about bad service being easy to fix, and we did just seem to be unlucky, as other tables with different servers seemed to be getting great service.
Luckily I can enjoy most situations when I have a bottle of wine(!!), and by the end of the meal I just found the whole experience funny.

Great review and Pics! :) :)
Thanks for all the info. We are going to some of these restaurants and love to read the reviews.
:thumbsup2

I know you had a lot of fun. But after 21 days, it must have felt good to get home!

Thanks for the comments everyone.

GeminiAngel- it did feel good to be home, but I felt it was the perfect amount of time to be away. I couldn't have done a typical beach holiday for that long, but there was so much to do in Disney I never got bored. I did miss my dog though, so I was glad to get back to see her again.

your reviews are great! i was especially interested in the port orleans riverside food court reviews as we will be staying there over thanksgiving and will be having a couple meals there ---
i had also wondered about the crab gateau and you reviewed it with a picture!
so thanks for taking the time to get all this information to us-

I've really been enjoying your reviews this evening. I would love to have 3 weeks at Disney to just take our time and relax. We did get tired of eating so much by day 6 (we were there 7 days), so I think you were very smart to do several signature meals and then share counter service! I think Le Cellier (dinner) was probably my favorite meal; Tutto Italia was probably DH's. I can't wait to hear about the other places you tried!

Thanks for your comments.
wdwthanksgiving - We really liked POR foodcourt. It got busy but the food was always good. We ate there a couple more times on the trip and I had the carvery (I'll review it properly later) but it was fantastic, well worth a CS credit.

Whogirlsmom- It was a lot of food, and we couldn't have used all the TS credits without the 5 signature meals. I really wanted to try Tutto Italia but only realised it was open when I got back from the trip!!

I'll get another installment up tonight.

We spent the next 3 days at Universal, staying at the Hard Rock Hotel. We didn't eat too much, as we fancied a break from table service meals and we were staying club level so made the most of the morning and evening offerings there.

I did take a few food photos though. On our first night we ordered room service. I got the Chicken Tender appetiser. This was absolutely huge, the tenders came with fries and honey mustard dip, and were very good. I'm not sure how anyone could manage an entree after finishing this though!!
HRH_chicken.jpg

DH ordered a vegetarian pasta option. He said this was good but nothing special. Again it was a big portion and he couldn't finish it.
HRH_pasta.jpg

The next day DH got us a sundae from Emack and Bolios. This was fantastic, you chose 3 flavours of ice cream and you got 3 huge scoops. It also had big chunks of brownie, mini marshmallows, hot fudge sauce and loads of cream. It was absolutely huge and I thought it was great value at $6.50.
HRH_sundae.jpg

When we got back from Universal we ate at POR again, but I'm afraid I forgot to take pictures. I chose the carvery which was really, really good. I got turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn bread and gravy. It was so filling I couldn't manage dessert, so I took my magic cookie back to the room.

This was really good, I didn't even know what a magic cookie was but it looked good. It was a rich buttery, biscuit base, with all sorts of chocolate chips and nuts baked in. Very good but very sweet, DH and I shared it for breakfast the next day.
POR_magic1.jpg

DH chose Make your own Pasta with pesto sauce. He said it was good, but the sauce was more watery than the first time he had it.

As this was a short installment with not many pictures, I'll throw in a couple of extra ones from other days.

I got a Glowtini from the bar at POFQ to take back to the room. I really liked this drink, it was very sweet and didn't have a strong alcohol taste.
Glowtini.jpg

We got a funnel cake one afternoon from Sleepy Hollow in the Magic Kingdom. I'd never tried funnel cake before, and this was just ok to me. It was huge, so more than big enough to share, but it was very messy as the powdered sugar ended up everywhere.

OK, that's all for now. I'll write the next installment tomorrow, which will contain F&W festival and the Garden Grill.

They were absolutely huge portions!! I couldn't even finish the chicken and I had that as my main meal!!! Reasonable value for room service though, I think the tenders were around $12.

I'm loving the itty bitty bottle of ketchup you got with room service! Too cute!

The magic cookie looks like what we call Hello Dolly bars in our family. If it's the same, they are sooooo good. Did it have coconut in it, too?

Great update!:thumbsup2

Yes it did have coconut in so it's probably the same thing. It was really good!!

Gosh you do such a good job on your report! :cutie: It's so fun to look at your pictures and read the comments - and now I am soooo hungry! :goodvibes

Yum, Magic Bars! Magic bars at Xmas, always. :santa: Just in case you ever want to make Magic Bars to relive your WDW stay, here's the easy recipe (though you'd have to convert to UK brands, etc.;) ):

INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 (14 ounce) can EAGLE BRAND® Sweetened Condensed Milk (NOT evaporated milk)
1 (12 ounce) package semisweet chocolate morsels
1 1/3 cups flaked coconut
1 cup chopped nuts

DIRECTIONS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (325 degrees for glass dish). In 13x9-inch baking pan, melt margarine in oven. Sprinkle crumbs over butter; pour EAGLE BRAND® evenly over crumbs. Layer evenly with remaining ingredients; press down firmly.
Bake 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool. Chill if desired. Cut into bars. Store loosely covered at room temperature.
Variations

7-Layer Magic Cookie Bars: Substitute 1 cup (6-ounces) butterscotch flavored chips* for 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips and proceed as directed above.

Peanut butter flavored chips or white chocolate chips may be substituted for butterscotch flavored chips.

Magic Peanut Cookie Bars: Substitute 2 cups (about 3/4 pound) chocolate-covered peanuts for semi-sweet chocolate chips and chopped nuts.

Magic Rainbow Cookie Bars: Substitute 2 cups plain candy-coated chocolate candies for semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Seahunt thank you for your comments and the recipe. I love to know people are enjoying my reviews.

I'll have to make the magic bars for christmas, by that time I'll have lost all the weight I put on on holiday, and be ready to gain it back by eating christmas dinner, and now magic bars!

YUM! Thanks for posting this. I'm gonna make these for my halloween party!

A B*I*G* Thanks for taking the time to do this. As a newcomer and someone who has never been to WDW, this information in very valuable :wizard:

A small "cheat" for those that don't do well at making things from scratch (like me) :rotfl: Costco often sells 7 layer bars in a kit at Christmas time, I LOVE them. I am going to check today and see if they are in yet. You all made me hungry for them. :cool1:

Thanks Again!!

 OK now I have it all figured out- this is the reason we all gained more weight than taylorl125 (the original poster) just by reading her trip report! :rotfl: I swear I had to wipe up the drool off my keyboard just looking at all her yummo food photos! :rotfl2:

Pez Pez and Seahunt thank you for the compliments. I must admit it's very hard to stick to diet when I'm writing and reminiscing about all the wonderful food I ate! Next installment coming right up.

Today we were going to get our first taste of the F&W festival. I was really looking forward to this, I love trying new foods and drinks, but we had a full day planned here later in the week so this was just a sampler.

First we attended a New Zealand wine seminar. This was really informative and you got reasonable helpings of wine. We decided we'd definitely be doing more of these before the end of the trip.

Next we headed to World Showcase to grab a couple of samples. We had a lunch reservation at the Garden Grill so I didn't want to eat too much.

First we went to the French booth. I got the escargot. I'd never tried these before and I absolutely loved them. They were encased in a little bread basket, with lots of garlic and parsley butter.

DH got the Goats Cheese and tomato tart. He liked this and described it as a nice quiche. I'm afraid I forgot to take photos of these.

Next we headed to Japan so I could get some sushi. I went with the California roll and this was a pretty standard California roll, good but nothing special. It came with the standard wasabi and ginger, and a cute little packet of soy sauce.

Next we went to the India booth as there were a couple of vegetarian options for DH to choose from here. He went with the vegetable samosa, which he really liked but the sauce it came with was too spicy for me.

We stopped by Morocco so I could get a chicken bastilla. I've had these in restaurants back home, and I was a bit disappointed by this. Normally you get a really unusual contrast of tastes with the savoury meat, and the sweet topping. But this didn't really have enough sweetness to it, with no powdered sugar on the top, just cinnamon so it just tasted like a chicken pasty with a hint of cinnamon.

Overall I enjoyed my first trip to the festival, and was looking forward to my next visit in a few days time.

We had a late lunch reservation at the Garden Grill. This looked a good character meal for us, as people had reported getting lots of interaction with characters, not just them stopping for a quick picture like we had previously experienced at Donalds. Breakfast.

We checked in 10 minutes early and were buzzed before our ADR time. It was quite quiet for a character meal, with a fair few unoccupied tables. Service was ok, we waited a while for him to come and take our drink order, but he seemed to have a fair few tables to take care of. We asked if DH could have a vegetarian option and he said no problem.

We then received drinks and bread. You got biscuits and cornbread, and we both absolutely loved the cornbread.

Next our meals arrived. I had the standard fare, of turkey with cranberry sauce (v good), catfish(v good), steak with mushroom sauce(not good at all, steak tough and chewy), cheesy potatoes(really good) and vegetables (ok).
DH got a butternut squash risotto, which he said was nice but nothing special.
I totally forgot to take pictures of this meal and by the time I remembered this was all that was left.
GG_main.jpg

Both DH and I were offered another plate if we wanted but we both refused.
For dessert we were given apple crumble with bourbon cream. I thought this was nice and DH absolutely loved it. The apples were soft with a hint of cinnamon, the crumble was good and you could definitely taste the whiskey.

I thought the character interaction was really good here. They all came round at least once to say hello, and they spent a lot of time with the young children at the table next to us, Chip danced with a little boy for 5 minutes (it was so cute).
Here's Pluto deciding what to order from our menu:

Overall this was a fun meal with reasonable food. Nothing gourmet but good for a character meal, and definitely one we'd return to.
Rating 3.5/5

We were pretty full from this meal until a lot later tonight so we headed down to POFQ to grab a quick meal. We went for the usual Vegetarian Burger and a Chocolate brownie. The burger was fine, and the fries were hot and crispy. The brownie was really good as it was still warm from the oven, very soft and rich.

Next up will be Raglan Road.
