Thanks! I can pray for a special can't I????

(we now take you back to Taylor125's wonderful report!!!) :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

(Thanks Taylor!!!)

Apologies to Taylorl25 for interrupting your wonderful thread for a moment ...

Michelle - I just checked with Jason and he told me that the swordfish was from California Grill and it was one of their specials that night. Worth every penny. :thumbsup2

And I will be doing another TR ... so look for us later this month. And I promise not to eat everything at Ghiradelli. ;)

Thanks Taylorl25 - looking forward to more of your reviews! :goodvibes

Brenda that's fine. I've read most of your previous dining reviews before and they were all fantastic. I'll definetely be looking forward to your next one!

We were in Magic Kingdom again today and decided to break for lunch around 12ish. I'd read good reviews of Columbia harbour house on these boards, and the vegetarian option wasn't cheese pizza so we decided to give it a try.
It was busy when we arrived but I'd read the tip about heading upstairs, and sure enough there was hardly anyone up there.
I had the Anchors Aweigh sandwich. This was a really good tuna sandwich, I liked the fact the bread was toasted and it was really filling. On the DDP it came with a bag of chips but we saved those for later (I don't think we ever got round to eating them).
We chose apple pie for dessert which was good and very similar to pizzafari, it tasted much better than the pre-packaged desserts you get in lots of places.

DH had the lighthouse sandwich. This was a really tasty and unique vegetarian option. The hummus was good and went well with the broccoli slaw. He also had apple pie for dessert.

We both really enjoyed this CS, so much so we actually ate here again later in the trip.

We had a 7pm reservation at Chefs de France tonight. We'd eaten here on our last trip and really enjoyed it, so decided to go back. Check in was busy and they were turning away all walk ups, but we only waited about 10-15 minutes.

We had a corner table, but the tables seemed much closer together than I remembered. We were so close to the family next to us, we could barely squeeze into our seats and the waiter had difficulty squeezing between the gap to clear our plates away.
we were greeted instantly and ordered drinks. We felt slightly rushed as he asked if we were ready to order and we'd only been seated for about a minute. This was the first time I really noticed the difference in menu size between Disney owned and non Disney owned restaurants. There was so many more dishes on this menu than we'd been seeing in other restaurants I actually had a difficult time choosing.

I finally chose the baked goat cheese salad and it came soon after we ordered. There was a small round of warm goat cheese, which contrasted really well with the balsamic vinegar dressing on the leaves. However there wasn't enough cheese for me for the amount of leaves on the plate.

DH ordered the cheese plate. He said it was nice but the cheeses were pretty standard, brie, edam etc. There were no crackers, bread or accompaniments and the server didn't tell us what the cheeses were which was a bit disappointing but aside from that it was a nice appetiser.

For my entree I had the salmon fillet served on a potato pancake. This was good, the salmon wasn't overcooked and the potato pancake was actually more like a rosti. The tomato sauce was tasty but was just warm when it came to the table and should have been served hotter.
CDF_salmom.jpg

DH had the vegetable lasagne. He said it was good but could have done with a bit more cheese. It's not exactly a french dish but it was good all the same.
CDF_lasagne.jpg

For dessert I chose the chocolate tart. This was really good, the pastry was nice and crisp and the filling very rich and chocolatey. The ice cream was just ok but it complimented the tart well.
CDF_choc.jpg

DH chose the crepe filled with cinnamon apple and apple caramel sauce. This was very nice and he especially enjoyed the caramel sauce.

Overall I probably enjoyed my second visit to this restaurant as much as my first. It was definitely busier than 2 years ago, but service was still good and we didn't feel too rushed.

Rating 3.5/5

Thanks for your continuing reviews.:thumbsup2 We love Colombia Harbour House and will be heading there in November again. I've had the tuna sandwich both times I have been there, but wondering whether to try the hoummus one next time.

We have a lunch ressie at Le Chefs. Our dinner last November was wonderful, but there have been so many bad reviews recently I have been toying with the idea of changing. Glad your experience was overall good.

Your reviews are great.

I have a cheeky question and hope you dont mind but you seem to order the same as we would when it comes to drinks 1-2 alcoholic/speciality ones and then the rest soft drinks so I just wondered if you know roughly what you spent on drinks during your holiday.

TIA

The pics look great and the reviews are too.We go for 21 days over xmas so i hope i can do as good a trip report as you.:santa:

I'm immensely enjoying your reviews! Just a couple comments:
-- I had the Vegetable Rice Bowl at Kona Cafe a couple years ago, and it was yummy! I ordered it because I wasn't hungry but ate every last bite. It is still on the Feb 07 menu posted at allearsnet. It's a shame if they have taken it off the menu!
-- Glad you agree with me about the Anchors Aweigh sandwich at CHH! Best tuna sandwich ever! (And you get bonus points for spelling it right!)

Thanks for your nice comments everyone.
Granmaz- you should try the hummus sandwich. The tuna one was great and I was still quite jealous of DH's because it was so good.

Bellybee- I didn't keep an exact count but I think we probably spent around $500 on drinks. That included a couple of bottles of wine at some of the signature restaurants, or a glass of wine/mixed drink with dinner. I think there was probably only a few meals we didn't order any alcohol, and most mixed drinks were around the $10 mark. Some were more expensive like the ice wine at Le Cellier, or I had a Kir Royale at Chefs which was $15 so it does add up quite quickly.

erikthewise- the vegetable rice bowl was still on Konas menu, DH just didn't fancy it. Looking back though I think he wishes he had chosen that rather than the noodles.

I'm going away for a couple of days with work so I won't get to post the next installment until Tuesday, but Flying Fish will be coming up next.

Yummy! I love that tuna sandwich at Columbia Harbor House. :thumbsup2

And your dessert at Chefs looks really good, too. We've only ever eaten lunch at Chefs and never seem to order dessert ... perhaps we'll have to change that this time around. ;)

I am loving your reviews! Very good. The pics add a lot to the reviews, too. I must agree with your DH, the hummus sandwich at CHH is awesome. I get it everytime.

BTW, isn't the green stuff on the veggie platter at Tangerine Cafe the tabbouleh? I though tabbouleh was a lot of parsley, mint, bulgur, etc. :confused3

I have spent the morning reading your fantastic reviews. Thank you so much!
I am looking forward to Flying Fish. It will be a new one for us this Dec. trip
Deb

j.C&alis mom- yes, my mistake the tabbouleh was the green stuff. This didn't seem to have any bulgur wheat in at all though, it was just the parsley?? Whenever I've made tabbouleh the main ingredient was the bulgur, may be I haven't been using very authentic recipes!

DebrorahA- thanks for your comments, I like to know people are enjoying the reviews.

Another vote for CHH!!!

I LOVE their chowder!!!

I just wish they'd bring back the fried shrimp, but hey - that was on the 1974 menu!!!

Great TR!!! :goodvibes

great pics and reviews :)

We will be trying Chefs for the first time in January, I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it there!

We were at Blizzard Beach today and were ready for an early lunch just before 12. Lottawotta wasn't too busy and luckily there were still tables available with umbrellas.
I chose the fish basket, this was quite good. The fish was hot and the batter was crispy. It was quite a big portion with 3 pieces of fish. Dessert was a fruit cup which was a standard disney fruitcup made up of melon and grapes.
DH chose Pizza (again) but on the DDP the pizza comes with fries. This was to much food for him and the pizza was the standard pizza you get all over disney.
He chose a Ice Cream cookie sandwich for dessert, which was good.
This is a good waterpark CS, it's only problem is lack of indoor/sheltered seating. While we were eating it started to rain really heavily and people who'd just bought food really had no where dry to go and eat it.

We headed to Flying Fish tonight. This was another signature restaurant we'd never tried but as I love seafood I was really excited about this one.
We arrived and were seated slightly before our ADR time. This restaurant is a lot noisier than Citricos and Artist point, and seemed to have a more informal atmosphere. We didn't get a great table as we were a little too close to our neighbours and there was a large party seated behind us who were really loud, but the most important thing was the food!!

After sitting at our table for 10 minutes our waitress came across and said she'd be with us in a minute. Another ten minutes later, she finally came and asked us to order drinks. We ordered a bottle of wine, and my DH asked if there was a vegetarian entree option, as there was nothing listed on the menu. She said she'd bring the chef to talk to us and soon she came back with the chef, and put our bottle of wine on the table.

The chef was really nice and DH told him he was happy to eat whatever he wanted to cook, as long as it didn't contain meat or fish. He said he would make him a sampler plate which was fine by us. After the chef had left we realised we were going to have to open and pour the wine ourselves as our waitress had disappeared again. I can honestly say this is the first restaurant I've ever been to where I've had to open the wine myself, thank god it had a screw top or I may have had to go out and buy a corkscrew!!

Anyway she finally came back and took our order, and I asked for a drink of water, which she said she'd bring back with some bread. She came back, with water and no bread and walked off before we had a chance to ask for some. By this point we'd been seated over 45 minutes and still not even a crumb of bread had passed our lips.

Finally someone brought out our appetisers. I went for the crab cake. This was really good, the coating was crunchy and the crab inside was nice and sweet. The remoulade had a bit of a kick to it and the vegetable slaw was good. It wasn't blow your mind good like Citricos crab appetiser, but it was good.

DH went for the cheese plate. He rated this as superb. Each cheese had it's own accompaniment including raisins and honeycomb, and they left a menu detailing each cheese.
FF_cheese-1.jpg

He wasn't too keen on the bruschetta type bread they served it with, but luckily the server who brought our apps out had realised we didn't have any bread and had brought out the normal bread for us.
For my entree I decided to try the signature dish of Potato wrapped snapper with Creamy Leek Fondue and Red Wine Butter Sauce. This was also really good, the snapper was cooked perfectly and the red wine sauce paired really well with the buttery leeks. Overall a really good dish.
FF_snapper-1.jpg

DH had the sampler platter prepared by the chef. He said this was a really well put together dish, that included roasted parsnips, baby carrots and turnips, mushrooms and green beans and some sort of grain cooked with garlic. The grain was really nice but I'm not sure what it was exactly.
FF_vege-1.jpg

Now we were onto dessert. I'd seen the two tables on either side of us wait around 25 minutes with the dessert menu in front of them, before our waitress actually appeared to take their order, so I was expecting to be in for a long wait. As it was we only needed to wait about 15 minutes, so we were in luck!!

I ordered the Zabaglione with seasonal berries. The berries were lovey but the zabaglione was just ok, there didn't seem to have any taste of alcohol in it, whereas it's been quite potent when I've tried it at other restaurants.
FF_zabaligone-1.jpg

DH chose the fig tart. This was really good, the pastry was crisp, the filling was moist and tasty and he really enjoyed the caramel sauce.

Overall I felt the service really let this meal down. The food was all good but we were in there well over 2 and a half hours which I don't mind if it's a well paced meal, but to have to wait 20 minutes to order a drink, 45 minutes before getting any food, having to open wine yourself, not getting bread before appetisers just added together to create such bad service it was laughable. This was the only restaurant I tipped less than 20% on alcohol and the only restaurant I was really glad we were on the free DDP and not having to pay OOP. I don't think the bad service was anything to do with the dining plan though, as all her tables were getting the same level, regardless whether they were on the plan. She was very pleasant but I felt she just couldn't cope with the demands of waiting on four tables, (she did look heavily pregnant and I wouldn't like to be running around a restaurant at that stage).
We will be heading back to Flying Fish, but it's probably bottom of my list of signature restaurants.

Thanks for another great review! I feel as if I was there with you.
Next time, just order the wine that comes in the 12oz flip-top can.
Fortunately bad service is a lot easier to fix than bad food.
