FOOD FRENZY: 21 Days of disney dining with pics! -COMPLETED!

We got two of the make your own treats from Goofys one night but I can't remember which so I'll just post them now.

These were soo good and a fantastic use of a snack credit.

I chose a rice crispy treat, dipped in milk chocolate and crushed reeses peanut butter cups, drizzled with white chocolate. This was so gorgeous, and i dread to think how many calories it contained! I ate it over a couple of nights and went back for a cookie at the end of the holiday, which was also good but I preferred the rice crispy treat.

DH chose a marshmallow stick, dipped in dark chocolate and oreo crumbs, drizzled with caramel. It was good but mine was better! I did like the mickey straw the marshmallow came on.

One thing I thought was quite strange is you order them, they make it then you pick it up and pay for it. While we were there the CM made 2 orders that no one claimed, just seemed a bit of a waste and I thought they might make you pay for them before they put the time into making them.

I'll post the Jiko review tomorrow.

Typhoon Lagoon today so we had a late breakfast at POFQ of a cheese omlette. It was exactly the same as last time so I didn't take another picture but it was a fine omlette. The foodcourt was so busy though, managed to grab the last free table and they'd even ran out of bottles of water!

We came back from the water park early and headed to POR for lunch at about 1pm. I expected it to be quiet as I thought most people would be at the parks, but it was absolutely packed.

I went for a Beef and Blue Cheese sandwich because the sandwich station was one of the only ones with a small queue. This was good, the beef wasn't too fatty and there was just the right amount of blue cheese. It was served on a warm ciabatta and the bread was also good. It came with chips or pasta, I chose chips and wasn't too keen on them but the sandwich was plenty for me.
POR_sandwich.jpg

I ordered chocolate cake for dessert which you can see in the above photo as the bakery had actually run out of most options. I didn't really like this, it tasted artificial to me but DH ate it.

DH went for pasta again, but chose the Alfredo sauce instead of pesto. He wasn't impressed this time as the sauce was very bland and there was a massive queue for pasta so it had taken forever to get.
PORpasta.jpg

Cookie for dessert which was chewy and very good.

Tonight we had a Jiko reservation at 7:30. This was probably my most anticipated meal as it gets good reviews and I really like African food. Check in was quick and much calmer than Boma next door, we were 20 minutes early so got a drink at the bar.

We were seated slightly before our ADR time but I didn't love our table. We were in between two other couples and I thought they could have been a bit better spaced out. Our server came over within about 5 minutes, and I ordered a glass of wine. For the first time in about 8 years I was asked for ID, I love the idea I may still look under 21!

He then brought our drinks and bread. I loved the bread and butter here, the butter had just the right amount of sweet and spice to it and was lovely.
I ordered the Ahi Tuna and Tuna tartare for an appetiser. I have mixed feelings about this appetiser, the tartare was wonderful and went really well with the spicy pappadam provided.
The seared tuna was good, but I've never had seared tuna served cold before (and I mean just come out of the fridge cold). I find that when it's freshly seared and rare in the centre it releases all the juices, and just tastes sensational. This was good but lost a lot of the flavour because it was cold and just kept thinking how much better it would have been served freshly cooked.

DH ordered the taste of Africa which you can see in the background of the above picture. He really enjoyed this but it was a big portion and he couldn't finish it as there was so much bread. The dips were Olive Hummus, Durban Tikka Masala, and Malay Spinach-Lentil Dip and were all really good.

DH picked the Grains, Peas and vegetables for his main (shown in the foreground of the picture below). He said the tofu was lovely with the tandoori marinade, but there was way too many vegetables and again he couldn't finish it.
J_mains.jpg

My entree is in the background of the above picture. Maize crusted halibut with tomato butter sauce and crispy sweet potatoes. The halibut was very good with the maize coating really adding flavour and texture to the dish. The vegetables were cooked well and I loved the sauce which was creamy with a little bit of a tang to it. The sweet potatoes were different to what i expected, as they were more like the texture of chips. They were good but a bit too salty.

For dessert I chose Pistachio Creme Brulee served with biscotti. This was really good and quite a large portion. I loved chocolate bottom and my only criticism would be that the texture should may be have been a little firmer.
J_deserts.jpg

DH chose the vanilla bean mousse, shown in the background above. He really enjoyed this, it was smooth and rich and he declared the strawberry sauce to be fantastic.

Overall I enjoyed this meal, but it didn't top some of the other signature restaurants for us. Service was good but may be not as personal as at citricos, but it's definitely one we'll be visiting again. DH loved the fact that there were 4 vegetarian appetisers to choose from instead of the typical 1 or 2, so it gets a rating of 4/5.

Next will be the DIS's favourite restaurant Le Cellier!!

Oooooh those Goofy's Candy Co treats look sooooo good!!

I also had a totally calorific one, and it took me 3 days to finish but it was delicious!! :teeth:

Thanks for commenting. Sorry I'm too big a crab cake fan to have picked anything else for an appie! Captain Jacks was a strange experience because the appetiser was so good but my entree was just bad. We'll hopefully give it another try at some point and I may just try the chowder.

Ok... just go to Capt. Jacks and order the Stawberry Marguerita!!!

(warning... they're LETHAL!!!) :goodvibes

Have some chowder and you'll be fine!!!

loving those photos of the food - drooling here....

21 days - i am SO jealous!!!! ;)

Thank you SO much for all of the reviews and pictures. I can't wait for more :cheer2:

As an aside, I'm not sure where in the UK you live, but I love Wagamama and they're all over the place (although, maybe only in cities). The have AWESOME pot stickers, so if you're ever in the mood for them and near a Wagamama, you should stop in :)

suzimar - thank you so much for the comments. It's really good to know people are enjoying the reviews

bekkiz- thanks for the comments. And I never knew that about Wagamamas! One just opened around here a few months ago and I keep meaning to try it but I've just never got round to it, I may make the extra effort now!

After over a week in the parks it was time for a shopping day at DTD.

We had the famous Beignets for breakfast. You get 6 for a snack credit which is a really good deal, DH brought them back to the room which was good because they were so messy, the powdered sugar went everywhere!
I liked these a lot, they were a bit like a donut, and just a good (although probably ridiculously high calorie) breakfast.

POFQ_begnets.jpg

There were 6 in the container, we'd already eaten 2 before remembering to take a picture.

After spending the morning shopping in DTD we hit Wolfgang Puck Express at midday. It was reasonably quiet with tables available both inside and outside. This had a good variety of veggie options for DH, I think this was the first time he had a difficult time choosing at a CS location!
I chose the Pesto pulled chicken sandwich. This was huge and really good. The chicken was juicy and there was just enough pesto flavouring. It came with chips which were a bit too thick and crunchy for me, but the sandwich was too much anyway.
WPE_pesto.jpg

DH chose Spinach and Mushroom pizza. He really enjoyed this and said it was a top quality pizza. It was a little different as they'd used pesto instead of tomatoes for the base but it just worked really well.
WPE_pizza.jpg

I wasn't able to snap a picture quick enough of this one before he started eating, it was that good!
We both chose a brownie for dessert and split one there, and took one home with us, you can see one in the the picture above. These were good, incredibly soft and tasted freshly baked.
Overall this was probably our favourite CS meal of the trip and good value on the DDP. Only issue we encountered, was a woman with a stroller who decided she wanted to wait for our table even though outside was half empty. I wouldn't even of minded that so much but she literally parked her stroller right next to our table, stood there and informed us she was waiting (we were still eating dessert at this point). I just thought it was rude, and felt pressurised to leave before we would have otherwise.

We ate at POFQ again that night. Went for veggie burger and fries to share as neither of us were super hungry. This was a fine standard burger, nothing special but nice enough. Forgot to take a picture sorry.
For dessert we had cheesecake. This was very good for a counterservice restaurant. The berries were fresh and tangy, and went really well with the sweet creamy cheesecake.

I actually enjoyed todays break from TS restaurants, it was nice to just have a totally free day where we didn't have to be somewhere at a certain time. Mind you I was still looking forward to tomorrows Le Cellier reservation!

We were at MGM this morning, but it's not my favourite park for food options so I had a lunch reservation at Le Cellier

We headed across there at midday then checked in for Le Cellier about 15 minutes early for our 1:20 ADR. The lobby was pretty busy and I was expecting to be in for a long wait but we were called within 2 minutes!

I liked our table location here, I'd read about how close the tables are and I agree they do pack them in, but we had a four top that was in the middle of the room and at an angle to other tables, creating the illusion of space. So far so good.

Our waiter greeted us immediately and informed us we could have any non alcoholic drink on the DDP, but their smoothie machine was broken. I was slightly disappointed as I wanted to try the chocolate raspberry shake, but settled for a diet coke.

The appetisers arrived about 2 minutes after we ordered them. I had to try the cheddar cheese soup and I'm afraid this just tasted ok to me, it actually tasted like carbonara sauce I've had back home, and I'm not sure I understood the hype.
LC_apps.jpg

DH got the tomato beefstack and he wasn't particularly impressed. He said there was hardly any mozzarella compared to the amount of tomato (you can see the pieces of mozzarella on the corner of the plate), and it just tasted like a tomato salad. Not a good start for either of us.
There's no bread in the photo above because it arrived while we were in the middle of the starters. I liked all 3 types but the pretzel bread again wasn't really anything special to me but was good dipped in the soup.

I figured I had to order steak in a Steakhouse, so I went for the 5oz fillet Mignon, with sweet potato mash and cherry glaze. I don't eat steak often but I really enjoyed this. The fillet was a good quality steak, cooked perfectly medium and the sweet potato mash went really well with it. The only criticism would be that I couldn't really taste the cherry sauce.
LC_mains.jpg

DH chose the Heirloom Squash Ravioli which you can see in the background of the above photo. I was disappointed they'd removed the spiced black bean cake as that sounded a really interesting vegetarian option, but he quite enjoyed this dish. He said the pasta was nicely cooked, and the mushrooms and cheese in the dish worked really well. But he felt there was too much red pepper which overpowered the taste of the squash.

For dessert we firstly ordered a glass of Inniskillin Ice Wine. It was $20 for a good pour and fantastic, I really love this stuff.
LC_ice.jpg

I was pretty stuffed by this point so ordered the smores. This was good, the cookies were nice and soft and it was presented well.
DH ordered the Chocolate whiskey cake which he enjoyed but couldn't taste the whiskey.
LC_dessert.jpg

Overall I enjoyed this meal a lot more than DH. I think it is slightly over-hyped but my steak was very good. I felt a little rushed as they do seem to turn the tables fast here, but I would definitely go back.
Rating 3/5

We headed back to MGM to catch the late showing of fantasmic so didn't get to eat until late this evening. MGM has limited counter service options during EMH so we tried Rosies all American cafe. This was actually ok.
I had chicken fingers which were good, hot and tasty and DH had a veggie burger, which he said was the same as everywhere else in Disney.
We got an apple pie and chocolate fudge cake for dessert which we ate for breakfast the next morning.
The fudge cake was quite dry and apple pie had a nice sauce but the crumble topping wasn't that the great.

Great pictures and reviews. Thanks for taking the time to post.

Terrific photos! The beignet looked wonderful! But I, too, had the same experience at Le Cellier in terms of feeling rushed. But I guess that's what they have to do since it's so popular. Can't wait to see more!:)

Yum! Loving your reviews but now I'm starving!

Great reviews and pictures! You're getting us very excited about our upcoming trip (not that we weren't already!). Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to read more. :goodvibes

Great reviews and pictures - yours is the first review of Spoodles that actually has me wondering if we should give it a try. I guess I'd better decide quickly because we leave in two days. ;)

Thanks for sharing!

oybolshoi - thanks for commenting. I really enjoyed spoodles and it's definetely one we'll be returning to. If you do give it a go, hope you enjoy it too.

Apologies to Taylorl25 for interrupting your wonderful thread for a moment ...

Michelle - I just checked with Jason and he told me that the swordfish was from California Grill and it was one of their specials that night. Worth every penny. :thumbsup2

And I will be doing another TR ... so look for us later this month. And I promise not to eat everything at Ghiradelli. ;)

Thanks Taylorl25 - looking forward to more of your reviews! :goodvibes
