Typhoon Lagoon today so we had a late breakfast at POFQ of a cheese omlette. It was exactly the same as last time so I didn't take another picture but it was a fine omlette. The foodcourt was so busy though, managed to grab the last free table and they'd even ran out of bottles of water!
We came back from the water park early and headed to POR for lunch at about 1pm. I expected it to be quiet as I thought most people would be at the parks, but it was absolutely packed.
I went for a Beef and Blue Cheese sandwich because the sandwich station was one of the only ones with a small queue. This was good, the beef wasn't too fatty and there was just the right amount of blue cheese. It was served on a warm ciabatta and the bread was also good. It came with chips or pasta, I chose chips and wasn't too keen on them but the sandwich was plenty for me.
I ordered chocolate cake for dessert which you can see in the above photo as the bakery had actually run out of most options. I didn't really like this, it tasted artificial to me but DH ate it.
DH went for pasta again, but chose the Alfredo sauce instead of pesto. He wasn't impressed this time as the sauce was very bland and there was a massive queue for pasta so it had taken forever to get.
Cookie for dessert which was chewy and very good.
Tonight we had a Jiko reservation at 7:30. This was probably my most anticipated meal as it gets good reviews and I really like African food. Check in was quick and much calmer than Boma next door, we were 20 minutes early so got a drink at the bar.
We were seated slightly before our ADR time but I didn't love our table. We were in between two other couples and I thought they could have been a bit better spaced out. Our server came over within about 5 minutes, and I ordered a glass of wine. For the first time in about 8 years I was asked for ID, I love the idea I may still look under 21!
He then brought our drinks and bread. I loved the bread and butter here, the butter had just the right amount of sweet and spice to it and was lovely.
I ordered the Ahi Tuna and Tuna tartare for an appetiser. I have mixed feelings about this appetiser, the tartare was wonderful and went really well with the spicy pappadam provided.
The seared tuna was good, but I've never had seared tuna served cold before (and I mean just come out of the fridge cold). I find that when it's freshly seared and rare in the centre it releases all the juices, and just tastes sensational. This was good but lost a lot of the flavour because it was cold and just kept thinking how much better it would have been served freshly cooked.
DH ordered the taste of Africa which you can see in the background of the above picture. He really enjoyed this but it was a big portion and he couldn't finish it as there was so much bread. The dips were Olive Hummus, Durban Tikka Masala, and Malay Spinach-Lentil Dip and were all really good.
DH picked the Grains, Peas and vegetables for his main (shown in the foreground of the picture below). He said the tofu was lovely with the tandoori marinade, but there was way too many vegetables and again he couldn't finish it.
My entree is in the background of the above picture. Maize crusted halibut with tomato butter sauce and crispy sweet potatoes. The halibut was very good with the maize coating really adding flavour and texture to the dish. The vegetables were cooked well and I loved the sauce which was creamy with a little bit of a tang to it. The sweet potatoes were different to what i expected, as they were more like the texture of chips. They were good but a bit too salty.
For dessert I chose Pistachio Creme Brulee served with biscotti. This was really good and quite a large portion. I loved chocolate bottom and my only criticism would be that the texture should may be have been a little firmer.
DH chose the vanilla bean mousse, shown in the background above. He really enjoyed this, it was smooth and rich and he declared the strawberry sauce to be fantastic.
Overall I enjoyed this meal, but it didn't top some of the other signature restaurants for us. Service was good but may be not as personal as at citricos, but it's definitely one we'll be visiting again. DH loved the fact that there were 4 vegetarian appetisers to choose from instead of the typical 1 or 2, so it gets a rating of 4/5.
Next will be the DIS's favourite restaurant Le Cellier!!
