My children have a food dye allergy that gives them a rash among other symptoms. I'm planning our FIRST WDW trip! We have the QS dining plan and an ADR at Crystal Palace.

I've read that I can email WDW but I'm not clear on exactly what they can do. Can they help with this type of allergy?

I've also read that the CS locations shoud have an ingredients list available. In this case, do I wait in line & then ask for the list... Or should I go to a certain place inside & ask prior to waiting in line to order?

Am I clear on understanding that there is no way to check the ingredients prior to visiting?

I'm looking forward to some advice... I'm so confused. Please correct me if I'm understanding this info incorrectly. I will appreciate any advice. TIA!

They change ingredients and brands at times, so there is no guarantee that an item that is being used at the time you speak to a CM on the phone will still be there during your visit. I also can't have dyes, artificial flavors, as well as many other things, and was able to eat pretty well when we went to WDW last year.
At the QS locations, just get in line and tell a CM that your child has an allergy and you'll need to see the ingredient binder. Usually a manager will come out to help you order. It would be nice if you could tell them before you get in line so you don't have to wait at the front of the line for a manager, but it's not set up that way.
For your ADR at Crystal Palace, if you haven't already, call and have the allergy noted on your reservation. You can also call Special Diets and ask if you'll need to email the Special Diets form. My guess is that you won't need to send the form since you only have a single allergen to avoid, but it would probably be a good idea to double check.

We have been to WDW different trips with people with food allergies. In some cases, it's been fairly simple single allergies (almonds/tree nuts; mushrooms; gluten; milk products) and the last trip was with a child with multiple severe anaphalactic allergies (peanuts, tree nuts, eggs, dairy, seafood/shellfish, wheat ).

We did note the allergies on ADRs, but did not contact anyone ahead of time. Even though it is noted on the ADR, you still need to tell your server. Everyone was able to eat quite well, including the little guy with the severe allergies.

This is a link to Disney's special dietary information page:
https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/guest-services/special-dietary-requests/

It contains a lot of helpful information, but the process is basically what the previous poster wrote.

There are some counter service restaurants that have a CM greeter to direct guests and hand out menus at busy times. The ones I can remember that happening at were Columbia Harbour House, Pecos Bill, Pinocchio Village Haus and Cosmic Ray's. At those, our friends with allergies mentioned it to that CM and were pulled aside to wait for the person designated to deal with allergies.
At the others, they just waited in line and told the CM at the ordering station.

Is there still an allergy kiosk in AK where you can see the items in the whole park? Have the expanded that to other parks yet?

The one in AK was still there on our last trip (early April 2014).
They did not have one that we noticed in any other park.

My DD has a food dye allergy as well as a few others and I'm dangerously allergic to mustard (of all things). We add it on our dining notice reservation and tell them when we check in. Usually a special allergy chef and/or a manager comes over and they talk to you. Often they made my DD special and safe food with no risk of cross-contamination.

At 'Ohana she had a sundae with no sprinkles, special chicken, grilled mushrooms, strawberries, and cherry tomatoes. All her favorites all safe. It was heaven.

Really Disney is the greatest place ever for food allergies. It will spoil you to the rest of the world.

Thank you all for the GREAT info! I really appreciate it. I'm going to add the allergy to our reservation.

Red dye is such a tricky one. I can spot the colorful icing, etc... but when they hide it in crusts and vanilla items, it becomes impossible to just look and tell.

The allergy kiosk was there last week when we visited AK. Instead of a binder, they hand you an ipad with ingredients listed for items. There aren't any allergy kiosks in any other parks.

Where is this kiosk located? Is it on the map?

It is on the Animal Kingdom map and the official name is Garden Kiosk. It is on Discovery Island on the right hand side. I believe it has the same hours as park hours. They were open during morning EMH last week.

Thank you! I will check it out.
