Can someone give me a review of the restauraunts at Shades of Green? We are staying there in December. The prices seem great, but the real question is the food good????

WE have eaten at the Sports bar which is fine. Just stay away from the pizza. We had the buffet one morning for breakfast and it was awful. The eggs were cold, they had no bacon only sausage. We think that they had potatoes but they never refilled the dish while we were there. After that we stuck to eating in Disney.

we used their meal plan last fall because the price was good. We won't do it again. The food wasn't bad, tho breakfast could use alot more variety and some of the evening buffets my kids wouldn't eat (seafood). Evergreen's wasn't bad either, we actually liked the pizza. We had more issues with the buses to get back and forth at meal times, and the operating hours of the restaurants.

Hi

We have stayed and eaten at SOG quite frequently...last January, we stayed at POFQ and actually went over to Shades of Green for dinner.

Garden Gallery buffet- we really enjoy the buffet. I am not sure if it is because we do not like to wait...or what. The food is always good. We do avoid the whole Seafood buffet on Fridays..but I have noticed they changed their menu a bit to include a kids daily table....We enjoyed the buffet for breakfast and dinner....so far we have had excellant luck!

Evergreen's Sports Bar- now this is a different story...I have never had good luck with this rest. We have eaten there a couple times and just was not happy...the food was cold, wait staff was grumpy.....Although, I would be willing to give them another try...

Express Cafe- located by the bus drop off- Love this place for quick sandwiches- lunch and breakfast! Also pretty decent coffee...the woman that runs this place is so nice....makes us laugh...hopefully she is still running it.

Mangino's- can not give you a review for this one...just not our thing...a bit fancy for our liking :lmao:

Hope this helps!

They should open it up to all pass Vets.

We liked the food. You can see the menu on allearsnet.com http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menu_sogbuf.htm
I liked the different buffet options nightly or the sports bar. We split lots of meals. The onion rings were wonderful served with a pepper jelly. Everyones tastes are so different. The prices are better so try it. The ages for kids goes up to 12 at SOG instead of 9 so that was a pleasant surprise.

Stayed there in Dec. I couldn't wait to eat at Mangino's and it was a huge disappointment. The bread was great, and that was it. The meals are over priced, and the older man who seats people was rude and treated us like second class citizens. Would never go back. I liked the breakfast buffet - because I love waffles and you make your own. The Evergreen is ok for a quick meal. The new ice cream shop was HORRIBLE. I couldn't tell I was eating ice cream. It was cold, that's about it.

You may want to read the reviews on Trip Advisor...the ones I've read said that Manginos is better than any of the Disney restaurants. We haven't been to SOG, are trying to decide if we want WDW or Hawaii...but...I usually HATE buffets, but I enjoyed the buffets at the Hale Koa...I just don't think SOG, being the same type operation, could be that bad. One of the problems w/ posting on this board...and I post lots here...the view is VERY biased. For example...mousesavers posted the Disney Adventure vacations a few days ago...I haven't read a thing on the boards. Very much if it isn't WDW, and Disney, it can't be good.

Wide Awake, my DH retired as Chief Master Sgt from the Air Force and we have stayed at SOG 15 times or more. I was so excited to see Mangino's and couldn't wait to eat there. My entre was $27.95 and the pasta was mushy, the seafood overcooked, and the sauce was good. Everything Disney is not good. I love ice cream and eat it just about every day. Again, I was so excited to see homemade ice cream at SOG and it was inedible. Just how it was for us. We love SOG.

SOG food can be summarized in one word: PASS.

Seriously, I just don't like it at all. This last trip, we only ate there once, and that was room service breakfast. When I'm in Disney, with all that great food so close to my door, I'm just not willing to compromise!

Love the hotel, hate the food!

We just returned from SOG last night! First off, the resort is beautiful! Can't wait to go back!!! Now for the food.... We ate at Mangino's our first night. Italian sounded so good. We failed to look at a menu until we had sat down and we were quickly disappointed. Everything was way overpriced and the menu was hard to read. We didn't know what half of the food was. I split the chicken parmesan with hubbie (it was the only thing we recognized on the menu) It was $18, which by disney prices is not too bad, but the portions were small and came with no sides. Even salad is an extra $7 per person. My Dad got a steak, it was $25, but had no side dishes, just some kind of sauce that came with it that he did not like. You would think you could atleast get pasta or a baked potato for $25. Also there is no kids menu. Only option for kids is spaghetti, which was odd because speghetti was not offered for adults. Overall we were very dissappointed. We spent more money than if we had eaten at a nice sit down at the parks and the food was not that great. Our service was worse. Even though we were literally the ONLY people in the restaurant (first clue not to eat here) we sat with empty glasses the whole meal and could never find our waiter. Huge dissapointment. They need to fix their menu to include normal things like spaghetti, lasagna, fetticini, manicotti, etc. None of that here.
My parents ate at the breakfast buffet one morning. Dad is a huge breakfast person and was also let down. He didn't want to go back. They said it was comparable to a low-end Shoney's breakfast buffet.
The only other place I ate was at the express cafe place by the bus stop. I grabbed a bacon-egg-cheese sandwhich for $3.50. It was edible, not awesome, but not bad. Cereal for the kids was like $3.00. This was on our last day, while waiting for our airport towncar service to arrive. The rest of our vacation, the kids ate breakfast in our rooms with food we had packed. The fridge in the room came in quite handy.

We have stayed at the SOG many, many times. I have to agree about the breakfast buffet, it is adequate at best. But if you are in a hurry and need a quick fix it will pass. The coffee bar by the busses is awesome, in my opinion. They have delicious breakfast sandwiches and muffins and the lady that runs it is a sweet heart. Great coffee.

Evergreens has always been fine for us. Just your basic sports bar kind of fare, great onion rings, burgers, etc. The pizza is not so good!

We actually loved the Italian restuarant when we ate there in March 05. The food was very good at the time, but they do not have a children's menu so the choices for kids are very limited. (they offer pasta and meatballs).

I would not describe the SOG as a destination dining location but if you are there and want to eat without muss or fuss, and cheaply (compared to WDW standards) then it is fine.
