ok so i know this question has been asked 1,00 times. but what is some must have food? i really wasn't planning to eat there because we are on a very low budget. but after seeing all these pictures of food on this board, how are we gonna just skip it. so i am thinking of the basics. everyone loves these dole whips, the tinkebell twist, breadbowl and soup. corn dogs. So my basic ? is where in the park do i get these items and does anyone have prices. also any other must haves???

Disneyland menus with prices are available here: http://www.allearsnet.com/dlr/din/menu/menus.htm#dl
Dole whips can be found at the Tiki Bar just outside of the Tiki room in adventureland. The soup in bread bowls is served at the Pacific Wharf Cafe in DCA. There is a corn dog cart at the head of Main Street near the hub (on the right side if you face the castle).
Not sure about tink twist.

For budget eating, the first thing to do is to ALWAYS start off sharing. If someone is still hungry after the meal, you can buy more. If you've bought too much though, you can't get a refund on it.

We tried the Dole Whip and Dole Whip Float once. We thought getting the two treats for the three of us would just barely do us. Oh man it was too much. And the biggest problem was that after months of anticipation, I despised it. Melted pineapple flavored plastic. Hubby and son loved the taste and snarfed what I didn't have, but it turns out it's got an ingredient that they are intolerant to, and it ruined the next couple hours for us. Getting just ONE would have helped them b/c they wouldn't have had so much of the corn syrup solids, and it was just too much.

Hubby and I shared a meal at Plaza Inn in May, the penne pasta marinara. Comes with one breadstick, and we also got a side salad. Turns out we would have been better off buying 3 kids' meals of the same food, instead of sharing the plate and DS getting a kid's meal of it. We had to FORCE ourselves to finish the platter of pasta, there was so much! And 2 kid's meals of it would have been LESS than the platter, would have contained the same one breadstick (each kid's meal comes with half a breadstick), apple slices AND we could have gotten a small dasani water (or soda or juice). Would have been more budget to get the 3 kid's meals.

So always start by sharing, and look at the kid's meals. Sharing a dessert is great!

Sharing is a great idea! Most places we went, we ordered our own meals (we had prepurchased vouchers - big mistake!!) and we ended up wasting a LOT of food that way. I'm always surprised at how big some of the meals/snacks are..... The corn dogs, which are very yummy and a total favorite, are about three times the size of the ones I have seen around here!!

We know better this time and will be sharing a lot more - which lets us try more things too, so it's all good :thumbsup2

Definately check out the site proved by a pp for your prices and items. And definately use the tips provided already. The Tinkerbell Twists are sold in Fantasyland, and I always forget the name of the place, Cottage Sweets or something like that, I can never remember the name:headache: sorry. If you were walking from Tomorrowland into Fantasyland, right as you are passing the Matterhorn, on your right hand side, is a little brown building that sells drinks, that is where you get your Tinkerbell Twist.

For meals, I would recommend Plaza Inn, and Redd Rockets Pizza Port. Both serve large portions for the money. The best deals in the park in my opinion. Bengal BBQ has some very yummy skewers, but very expensive for what you get. If on a tight budget, I would avoid. Also, Redd Rockets Pizza Port gives free refills on your sodas. And there is also a little place on Main St. that gives free refills on coffee, but I never remember the name of that place since I dont ever go there either. Some else may be able to help you with that.

HTH!!

I love the marsinara at pizza port. It's one of the first things we do when we get there. It's the perfect size for two people too. It's just tow large meat balls and spaggetti but it's sooooo good. The parmesan they use there is really good too. Just seems fresher than what we get here.

You can also get the soup bread bowl at the little place just above the POTC (I can't remember the name, but you can't miss it). DH loves the chili dogs at Refreshsment Corner too. It enough to share too, but I always get the corn dog (the corn dog truck is across Main St from RC) when he gets that and we just share. That way we both get to have some of each :thumbsup2

Tortilla Joe's quick service spot in DTD is also a great place to get some lunch to share. The burrito's are HUGE, very good, and they are pretty reasonable for what you get.

Whitewater snacks near the pool at Grand Californian, nice quiet, out of the way spot. They have nice veggie and fruit trays.

The Mickey shaped pretzel with cheese dip that is found multiple places throughout the park is a must for my family. We always order at least one from the Refreshment Corner at the far end of Main Street (right by the Central Hub) along with a fresh cherry coke. We also loved rasberry Sprites but I think that they have stopped carrying the raspberry syrup since our last visit in December.

DH also wants me to add that a churro from the cart in the Central Hub makes a great breakfast!

The fries from the French Market with the creamy dip are delicious. We always try to grab a hotdog from Award Weiners in DCA too. If you're going to eat a meal try the burgers at Taste Pilots Grill in DCA. We went there last year and they have a great toppings bar (pickles, tomatoes, onions, etc). You also have to eat a Mickey rice krispy bar and don't forget to eat some popcorn while sitting on a bench on the hub people watching popcorn::

Bengal BBQ in Adventureland....bacon-wrapped asparagus skewer...mmmm

And oh yes, a churro or two is a must!:teeth:

:flower3: That would be the Royal Street Veranda :goodvibes

My niece and I usually share meals. We get the cheeseburger and fries from Hungry Bear, the chicken strips and fries from Stage Door Cafe, and the carne asada and enchilada platter from Rancho! We also share Dole Whips and caramel apples! The one thing we do not share are churros!!!

Rancho del Zachalo has several plates that are good for sharing. They have a half chicken beans and rice. They have the carne asada like PP mentioned. Free drink refills also. Nice place to sit and relax

The Mexicones at Tortilla Joe's Taqueria sound interesting. Has any one tried them? Would you recommnd them?

:cutie:

I keep hearing about breakfast at Tomorrowland Terrace, but the info says lunch/dinner/snacks...
My DH has a vision of us getting in line at Nemo, after ~quickly~ grabbing breakfast there...I'd like to indulge him, but is there breakfast there...that is the question...:lmao:

I like all kinds of food, I really don't discriminate, but I have noticed a couple things that can make or break your mealtimes at Disneyland.

You can pick things that are theme park standards: hot dogs, hamburgers, corn dogs, turkey legs, funnel cakes, churros, popcorn, chicken strips, fries, etc. These things will range from really great to mediocre to gross. Corn dogs have had whole threads dedicated to their yumminess and the popcorn and funnel cakes get good reviews. The other things are hit or miss, well churros are well loved, but I ate too many of those when they sold them at my Junior High to even think about them for too long.

On the other hand you can try counter service and sit down places and find really good, original offerings that will rock your world. I think some people make the mistake of not eating at a sit down place thinking it will cost them too much, and they spend $60.00 for burgers, fries, chicken strips and drinks that aren't that great. You can split a plate, just have an appetizer or dessert, etc and get some amazing stuff.

Another thing that makes the meal is where you eat it. I love eating in NOS-- all the places there are good and the people/scenery watching can't be beat. I normally avoid eating in Toontown, Tomorrowland, or Fantasyland. These places seem to get really crowded around chow time and the offerings are so-so although I have heard REALLY good stuff about the Chicken Fusilli from Redd Rocket's, but we had gross pizza there and won't be back...
Rancho by BTMRR has been a family favorite for years and never disappoints and watching the trains go by on the patio is great...
