Food and Wine? Sounds Divine! An October TR - 12/2 A PTR Link!

Eventually it was soon time for our reservation. It had been years since we’ve eaten here and we were both so excited!

They seated us in a quiet room with a view of the gardens and every once in a while we would catch the monorail coming through

The Menu

Our server brought us some bread and butter. The herbed foccacia was insanely yummy! We ended up asking for more of that bread after we finished it off! The bread basket was pretty cool!

For drinks, I went with a Chardonnay and DH was really in the mood for a Root beer.

It took us a while to decide what appetizers to get. We were really leaning towards the Seven Sparkling Sins but our server had made some other fantastic suggestions on the appetizer list. BTW, our server was incredible. The way he explained every dish was perfect. Just his words itself, made us salivate for every dish. He very much recommended the Signature Pizzette of “La Quercia” Smoked American Proscuitto, Black Mission Fig, Caramelized Onions and Cambozola Cheese

Oh my word. This was DH’s appetizer, but I helped him finish it. It was phenomenal. The fig was sweet but the saltiness of the cheese helped balance it out. Our waited even said he found a cheese similar to this at Costco and makes it at home all the time. I’ve got to find the recipe and ingredients to try it at home.

I went with the Mushrooms Pappardelle Pasta tossed with Prosciutto and English Peas, Poached Petit Egg and Zucchini Blossom Sauce

It looks so tiny but it was so filling and rich. The pasta was fresh and the poached egg was remarkable. I couldn’t finish it. This was definitely a meal in itself. Although it was delicious, I regretted getting it. I was getting so full already from the bread and pizza.

For entrees, I ordered the Pan Roasted Sustainable Fish, which may have been Tilefish, with Applewood Bacon, Pecans, Lemon Polenta, Toy Box Tomatoes and Spinach

It was outstanding. I thought it would be a lighter dish, but it was wonderful.

DH went with the Cherry Laquered “Maple Leaf Farms” Breast of Duck with Almond Gnocchi, Morel Mushrooms and Applewood Bacon.

I took a bite and although it was super tasty, there was no way (I thought!) he could finish it. It was heavy and rich. He proved me wrong
:worship:

Just a note. Every dish we ordered from apps to entrée had prosciutto or bacon:hyper:

My general rule of thumb is to always order dessert, no matter how disgustingly full I am. I was stuffed, but a rule is a rule!

The Warm Manjari Chocolate Truffle Cake with Salted Caramel Ice Cream was calling my name

Oh, did I mention we were celebrating our 8 year wedding anniversary?

DH was loving on the ice cream while I snarfed down the cake. Yum!

Our server had come to check on us after dessert and pretty much insisted on taking my camera to take a picture of DH and I together. He ended up taking around 10 pictures but I’ll just post 2

Our server cleared our plate and brought us some treats to take home with us

In each box was 2 different types of housemade fruit/nut candies.

We had the most amazing time at Napa Rose and can’t wait to get back there. DH and I also decided that one day we’ll just have appetizers and drinks in the lounge just to get that Pizzette again.

During dinner, I was keeping in contact with Brenda (emmysmommy) to have a DIS meet with her and her DD. We agreed to meet up just outside the Hearthstone Lounge at the Grand Californian to have drinks.

DH went in search of a restroom while I snagged a 4 top outside and I hear, “Alicia?!” from behind and it was Brenday and her DD! It was like we were old friends, so incredibly easy and fun to talk to.

We ordered a round of drinks (Wine for Brenda, Vodka Soda for me and Cranberry Vodka for DH) and talked about everything and anything! Her DD is so incredibly nice and funny, just like Brenda

They were so sweet, they even brought gifts! The coffee and cookies are long gone, but that mug still gets used every few days and DS just loves carrying around the postcard with Mickey and Minnie.

At one point during our conversation, Brenda stops talking and then starts laughing and says, “I think I swallowed a bug right now!” :rotfl2: We all started laughing and poor thing, the Hearthstone had closed up for the night so nothing to wash it down with but her wine.

I think a lot of you already follow her, but if you don’t check her thread out here and our meet up here. She got lots more pictures at our meet up than I did!

It was such a fun time getting to meet the Queen of DIS meets and can’t wait to run into them again soon! :goodvibes

It was getting really late so we decided to call it a night. The four of us were all in the same building, same floor actually so we got to talk a bit more. Final goodbyes were said, and off we went to our room to sleep off the exciting day we had!

The last day is never fun. But we had one final eating destination in mind that we needed to hit otherwise DH would have thrown a fit.

But first bagels, fruit and coffee outside on the balcony…and Candy Crush is always around

I kept hearing noises down below us and looked to find that Mousekeeping was cleaning the tops of the overhang

I also took a little bit of video of the park noise. I just love waking up to the sounds of terrified screams in the morning

We finished getting ready, packed our bags and headed out of our room. DH suggested that we put our bags in our vehicle and head to DTD from there, since the self parking lot at the GCH is located right next to DTD.

Bags secured in the car, off we went to DTD. I wanted to get some Marceline treats for DM as a thank you for watching our little terror. On our way, we saw a volleyball game going on. DH didn’t mind stopping to watch them play :rolleyes1

I bought way too much stuff at Marceline’s, like I always, do but this one was mine for the ride home

So where could DH possibly want his last meal at DTD to be? Shockingly not ESPN Zone like I had hoped…

The man is obsessed. In 2012, I believe right around the time EoS opened, we had visited 3 times in 2 days. Lunch 1 time and breakfast 2 times.

I’m not sure what he got, but I went with the Original

Uh. Bomb.

There was nothing left to do but head on back home. Back to the car we went where I said goodbye to the GCH from the parking lot

And were on the road. I love that there is a freeway exit located so close to the Disneyland Resort. With no traffic, we saw this in no time

The drive was definitely easy and smooth. Might have been because it was a weekday around 12:30pm. But usually on the weekend, it can easily take us close to 4 hours with traffic when we’re only located a little over 3 hours from DLR.

We drove to DM’s house, presented her with payment (Marceline’s!) in exchange for DS and went home. It’s difficult not to pick up a few items for DS while there..

He received this same one about a year ago from DM and our neighbor broke it, so we replaced it. It was his favorite toy. He was scared of it when I started it up:lmao: So funny how kids forget so quickly

This gift we knew he would love. He is a major Sulley fan!

He knew immediately what to do with it

I think he may be crying here?

A few days after we had gotten home, I saw this

He loves that pillow so much. Too bad it’s so big and bulky, I’d take it everywhere for him

So that wraps up our Disneyland trip! Sorry it took so long, I didn’t want to drag it out like I did. I think I’m on my final day at WDW so we’ll get back into that pronto!

Will get back to replys in a bit but need some help.

DS's birthday is coming up and I requested a Disneyland themed cake from my cake lady. She is very talented and pulls off every cake i've seen. She just messaged me and asked for some ideas because she's only been to Disneyland once 16 years ago.

I suggested maybe on the top to have the Disneyland Marquee with DS's name on it and maybe having some elements from different attractions like a Teacup, Dumbo, Mickey shaped balloons, some Disney characters etc.

Do you guys have any ideas or suggestions on what to add to a cake? Usually Pinterest comes through, but a Disneyland themed party isn't very popular apparently.

Thinking of it being specifically Disneyland definitely think attracts that are unique there vs also at Disney World, etc. would be good.

So Matterhorn, Pinocchio, Roger Rabit, stuff like that comes to mind.

Maybe could be set up like the canal boats but then instead of the fairy tale mini villages that you see on the ride you see the DL specific attractions

:confused3

Ahhh you went to some of my favorite places! Trader Sam's is so cool, I'm so glad they built that when they re-modeled the DLH. That's a bummer that you've never sat inside though -- for some reason, we've gotten lucky on the 2 visits we've been there and got a coveted seat inside that tiny little bar.

I've only been to Napa Rose for a full meal once -- we went with the Vintner's menu with the wine flight. It was AHHHHmazing. So good. And I agree with your rule of thumb about desserts :thumbsup2

DS with Sully is so cute :lovestruc

And -- GO GIANTS!!! :) Even if their last series against the Dodgers didn't go so well ... :rolleyes1

Looks like the DL trip was a blast! Just catching up now. I really loved your room at the Grand Californian. Amazing view!

So glad you had good meals and a great time. Looks like DS was pretty pleased with his gifts, too. :thumbsup2

wow - you powered through the rest of that min-TR, good job!

And I mean, October 2013 isn't even a year ago so you are definitely within the grace period ... I think TR's are the same as for giving wedding gifts - you get a year ;)

Wow - that is a pretty darn good view! Was it distracting at all? Almost seems like with the lights from park it would get too bright, etc. - though guess you didn't spend too much time in the room

Before noon a lighter beer is the way to go. I once read, with great interest, an article on how to day drink and you seem to be off to a good start (key was to not get sucked into any of those "all you can drink mimosa" brunches as you will never last)

Those loungers definitely look comfortable! I could nap the heck out of one of those :thumbsup2

So excited they are building a Trader Sams in the re-done Polly at WDW - hope it has a similar vibe as the DL one (though, ideally, be like 4 times as large)

Must say I am enjoying this bar-crawl of a day :goodvibes

Your meal at the Napa Rose looks wonderful! Love pizzas like that - we actually made our favorite last night: ground lamb with sautéed onions, goat cheese and balsamic reduction :yay:

disappointed there wasn't any bacon in your dessert ;)

Happy Anniversary by the way!

Yeah for DISmeet with Brenda and Em ... and I am totally not surprised you gals closed the bar down :goodvibes

Love the pics of your son - "oh, I'm just lounging on my pillow-pet in my diaper, hanging with the dog, no biggie"

What an awesome anniversary trip, thanks for sharing! :)

Oh those loungers are simply heavenly! :cloud9:

What is this, no mac and cheese for dinner? Your choices look fabulous!

And that cookie! YUM!

I love that DS had little Sully napping next to him, so cute!!!

loved reading about your Disneyland trip - I have to go there someday! :goodvibes that last day looked really relaxing.. Trader Sam's and Napa Rose = perfect anniversary celebration :thumbsup2

That Sully pillow is so cute! I always look at those in WDW but not sure I'd get one in the suitcase home.. maybe next year :lovestruc

Emma princess: x

YAY for finishing your anniversary trip. Happy Anniversary. Looks like you had a GREAT time. That food at Napa Rose looked amazing. And well done for getting in another DisMeet.
Your DS is so cute. Love the pictures of him with the Sully pillow.

DH was a little hungry and thought a Rice Bowl would be a good small meal. Meanwhile, I headed to Ghirardelli to get my warm chocolate chip cookie fix :hyper:
You made a better choice. :thumbsup2

After DH was done with his food, I wanted to go over to Cars Land. I just love it at night and wanted to get some pictures of RSR
It looks amazing. I really want to try to catch it some evening right when they turn the lights on.

A CM eventually kicked us out of the area we were standing in so we moved towards the back where we snagged a pretty decent viewing spot considering it was very last second
So... slightly obstructed view. I'm thinking dinner package would be a good idea? :confused3

To pass the time, I decided to entertain myself by hiding from DH and taking pictures of him. Yes, I’m 30 years old and still enjoy hide and seek.
And that is perfectly fine! :lmao::rotfl2:

These were the first pictures of the room that I took
Wow! What a view!

Also, i'm taking more ideas for DS's birthday cake. It's Disneyland themed and my cake lady has only visited DLR once many years ago, so isn't familiar with attractions.
Ok, I've seen some really good ideas, and this isn't anything terribly creative, elaborate or fancy, but after seeing the pictures from your room, I think a simple round cake decorated to look like the Mickey Fun Wheel or whatever it is called would be kind of cool... and definitely distinctly Disneyland.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with tough.

We both leisurely got ready, played Candy Crush, watched ESPN, etc then finally headed out to do some shopping at DTD
Gotta get the Candy Crush in there... :rotfl2:

I wonder if DH’s school would allow him to wear this for his photo next year?
I don't see why not!

While we were at DTD, we needed to take 4 of our watches to Fossil to get the batteries replaced. Turns out one of mine was completely broken and needed to be shipped off to be fixed.
Hmmm... I guess I should maybe take my old watch with me when we go. If I can find it that is. I haven't worn it since it stopped working 4 or 5 years ago. :rotfl2:

Beer is a little hard on DH's stomach sometimes, so he ordered some hard liquor instead :confused3.
:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

Maybe he's got a gluten allergy. My sister can't drink beer. :rotfl2:

DH ended up napping for an hour with snoring included.
And you were worried about him not enjoying his pool time. :lmao:

If you haven't been here, you need to get here somehow, someway. I was introduced by Alison, of course :) The inside is very tiny and everytime we've gone, we've never gotten lucky.
Ok. My understanding is that kids can go there before like 8pm. Is that correct? I really wanted to check it out. I was thinking about grabbing dinner there the day that we arrive in Disneyland. Is that reasonable or is it too adult oriented to take a 2 and 4 year old there with us? :confused3

But that is the best "somehow, someway" I've been able to come up with to get there.

DH went with the Cherry Laquered “Maple Leaf Farms” Breast of Duck
The Grand Californian... proudly serving Indiana duck. :thumbsup2 :rolleyes1

My general rule of thumb is to always order dessert, no matter how disgustingly full I am. I was stuffed, but a rule is a rule!
Best rule ever.

I also took a little bit of video of the park noise. I just love waking up to the sounds of terrified screams in the morning
:lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

He loves that pillow so much. Too bad it’s so big and bulky, I’d take it everywhere for him
I'm glad he enjoys it. Our kids love their Disney pillow pals. And they are pretty comfortable. Whenever I have to go lay down with DS when he can't sleep I always ask if I can use Bullseye. :rotfl2:

A few days after we had gotten home, I saw this

He loves that pillow so much. Too bad it’s so big and bulky, I’d take it everywhere for him

How cute is that? Love it!

What a great anniversary trip. Lounging around on your last day looks like so much fun. And your dinner at Napa Rose looks amazing.

I have seen Marcelines on the travel channel or a food show. I forget. That candy looks amazing.

So glad you both had an awesome time!

And that view. I know I said this before, but it really IS perfect. :thumbsup2

I'm all for food in the room. If I lived close enough, I would totally bring food from home too.

Of course a lighter beer is a good choice if it's not noon yet. :rotfl2:

I haven't eaten at House of Blues for a while, but the meal I've eaten there was good. No complaints.

Those loungers are entirely too comfortable. I spent a bit of time in one last year. :goodvibes

That flatbread looks incredible!

Guys generally tend to prove us wrong I think with their ability to finish food. I'm just amazed sometimes.

I remember seeing your DISmeet on Brenda's report and on FB! So awesome.

Earl of Sandwich is always a good last meal. No worries about eating there three times in two days. One of my WDW trips, I ate at Wolfgang Puck express four times in seven days! And that business is not walking distance! :rotfl2:

Love, love, love the updates from DL!
Wow, what a view from your room and what a perfect location to spend your anniversary
I am a big fan of Trader Sam's. I've only been to Disneyland twice but have spent far too much time in there on both trips !
Napa Rose looks amazing :-)
Yay for meeting Brenda and Em!

It sounds like you had a very nice and relaxing day and a great meal at Napa Rose. What a fun way to end the night with a DISmeet. Your DS scored with the gifts and it looks like he really loved them too!

Just caught up on the rest of your Disneyland updates. Sounds like a great way to celebrate an anniversary. Trader Sams, comfy pool chairs, Napa Rose, a DIS-meet - not a bad day at all! Love the Sulley pillow pet - super cute!

I was so far behind! :confused3

Great updates, you seemed like you had such a great time.

Your California trip sounded so fun, getting to meet up with friends and spend time together too.

Looking forward to more. :cool1:

Next time, i'm determined to get a seat inside!

The first time we went to Napa, we did the Vintner's too. Soooo good!

And tonight, i'm assuming we lost :sad2:

Looks like the DL trip was a blast! Just catching up now. I really loved your room at the Grand Californian. Amazing view!

So glad you had good meals and a great time. Looks like DS was pretty pleased with his gifts, too.

Thanks Mark! We really did have such a nice time, just the two of us.

wow - you powered through the rest of that min-TR, good job!

Love the pics of your son - "oh, I'm just lounging on my pillow-pet in my diaper, hanging with the dog, no biggie"

Well if you can believe it, my year is coming up! Getting ready to update though so the effort's there.:lmao:

It was more distracting knowing that I had a view and every waking second i'd want to look out! Even though it doesn't look like it, the lighting is pretty subdued at night so it's not seeping through the glass door. Even if it did, I probably wouldn't have minded!

Oh wow, I totally wouldn't last an all you can drink Mimosa day. I'd be done after 1! Champagne is not my friend.

Such a great idea to have a 'Trader Sams' inspired bar at the Poly! That will be fun to see.

Oooh your pizza sounds amazing! Such a great combo of toppings.

Us girls really know how to chat!

What an awesome anniversary trip, thanks for sharing!

Oh those loungers are simply heavenly! :cloud9:

What is this, no mac and cheese for dinner? Your choices look fabulous!

And that cookie! YUM!

I love that DS had little Sully napping next to him, so cute!!!

I remember your DLR update about the loungers and you updating your journal from there :)

You know, I don't even know why we didn't get some type of Mac and Cheese! It's one of our favorite sides. Must remedy that soon.

loved reading about your Disneyland trip - I have to go there someday! :goodvibes that last day looked really relaxing.. Trader Sam's and Napa Rose = perfect anniversary celebration :thumbsup2

That Sully pillow is so cute! I always look at those in WDW but not sure I'd get one in the suitcase home.. maybe next year

Emma princess: x

I know I tell you all the time, but you must make it out here one day! I think in time you will. I mean, you're getting closer towards us by visiting New Orleans soon right?!

Those pillows are actually incredibly comfortable and soft. When he brings it out of his crib into the living room, i'll sometimes lay on it. Love it!

YAY for finishing your anniversary trip. Happy Anniversary. Looks like you had a GREAT time. That food at Napa Rose looked amazing. And well done for getting in another DisMeet.
Your DS is so cute. Love the pictures of him with the Sully pillow.

We really did have such an amazing time. It was nice to have an adult only trip and only having to worry about what our next meal was going to be!

You made a better choice.

I agree!

It looks amazing. I really want to try to catch it some evening right when they turn the lights on.

You must! Have you seen any YT videos? I've only seen them turn the lights on once with the music and it was so cool! It's actually one of my favorite parts in the movie. Now whenever Cars comes on TV, DS and I dance to this song.

So... slightly obstructed view. I'm thinking dinner package would be a good idea? :confused3

Unless you can grab FP's for the Blue section for WoC. Not sure if you've seen this thread but you should check it out if you're planning on doing WoC. Scroll down a bit and you'll see the viewing sections. I've gotten great spots with the Blue FP's right up against the railing. Although yellow looks good too.

I think she is going to incorporate Mickey's Fun Wheel, thanks!

Gotta get the Candy Crush in there...

All day, e'ry day.

Hmmm... I guess I should maybe take my old watch with me when we go. If I can find it that is. I haven't worn it since it stopped working 4 or 5 years ago. :rotfl2:

....that never stopped DH from wearing it as 'decoration' :lmao:

:lmao:

Maybe he's got a gluten allergy. My sister can't drink beer.

I'm pretty sure it's because he likes the taste of liquor better than beer, but uses his disease as an excuse :lmao:

Ok. My understanding is that kids can go there before like 8pm. Is that correct? I really wanted to check it out. I was thinking about grabbing dinner there the day that we arrive in Disneyland. Is that reasonable or is it too adult oriented to take a 2 and 4 year old there with us?

I thought I had heard kids were fine all day/night on the patio, but not inside the actual bar after 8. May want to look into that one. I would take DS with me for dinner, definitely. Some may disagree. However, right around the corner (in fact, same shared patio) is the Tangaroa Terrace, which is a Quick Service that you could hit up if you're not liking the feel of Traders.

Best rule ever.

Pretty much the only rule I abide by in life. And wearing my seat belt of course:thumbsup2

I'm glad he enjoys it. Our kids love their Disney pillow pals. And they are pretty comfortable. Whenever I have to go lay down with DS when he can't sleep I always ask if I can use Bullseye. :rotfl2:

:lmao: Whenever DS pulls Sulley out of his crib and brings it into the living room, i'll lay on it too! I really should just get my own at this point.

:thumbsup2

Marceline's is the bomb.com! Very dangerous when it's DM and me. DH is pretty good at controlling me in here.

Seriously, the view was just amazing. I would absolutely request that same room again!

I'm all for food in the room. If I lived close enough, I would totally bring food from home too.

Of course a lighter beer is a good choice if it's not noon yet. :rotfl2:

I haven't eaten at House of Blues for a while, but the meal I've eaten there was good. No complaints.

Earl of Sandwich is always a good last meal. No worries about eating there three times in two days. One of my WDW trips, I ate at Wolfgang Puck express four times in seven days! And that business is not walking distance! :rotfl2:

One thing about having food in the room for me, is that I have to eat as soon as I get up. This makes it much more convenient. And cheap!

Phew! Glad I chose the light beer over the stout I was looking at. Would have probably looked like an idiot! :lmao:

I can totally see visiting WPE that many times though. WPE is just too dang delicious!

There is absolutely nothing wrong with spending lots of time at Trader Sams! It's one of the best places on property, IMO.

Napa Rose was incredible! Can't wait to get back there.

I loved meeting Brenda and Em! They are two amazing ladies that i'd love to meet again!

It sounds like you had a very nice and relaxing day and a great meal at Napa Rose. What a fun way to end the night with a DISmeet. Your DS scored with the gifts and it looks like he really loved them too!

I'm so jealous that you're so close to Napa Rose. I'd easily be there once a month!

We did have such an amazing time and so glad we got to hang out with you! It's always fun to get together! Definitely one of our best DLR trips ever!

Just caught up on the rest of your Disneyland updates. Sounds like a great way to celebrate an anniversary. Trader Sams, comfy pool chairs, Napa Rose, a DIS-meet - not a bad day at all! Love the Sulley pillow pet - super cute!

Definitely a great anniversary trip! So much that we accomplished, yet relaxing at the same time. :goodvibes

I was so far behind! :confused3

Great updates, you seemed like you had such a great time.

Your California trip sounded so fun, getting to meet up with friends and spend time together too.

Looking forward to more. :cool1:

Hi! We had the best time spending time at Disneyland for our anniversary with each other and friends! Couldn't have been any better.

Anyone remember last year in October, my family and I went to WDW for the Food and Wine Festival?! Yeah I barely remember that either :lmao:

Wanted to give a quick recap of what our ultimate goal was for this trip: To get 30 stamps in our passport. So far in our trip, we have:

Let's get back into this. The one year on this TR is fast approaching and I want to finish it so I can discuss our plans for our January 2015 trip :thumbsup2
