Food and Wine Reviews

I knew that ;)

I wondered about where else I might be able to find it so I can have some at home :)

Sorry, I didn't read past the 1st sentence. Sorry I have no idea.

I think you have to make Conga juice. Over on the Inside the Magic Forums if you do a search you MIGHT find one. He posted one about this time last year.

One thing I missed from last year... they used to have samples of each item offered for viewing in a plexiglass container. For all of the unfamiliar foods, it was nice to see what it was. They didn't have that this year...Carla

No kidding? I always liked that too...that you could see what it looked like? I guess I'll just take my chances! :) ;)

I'll bite (pun intended) . . .

We went twice last week, on 10/2 and 10/5.

Our highlights were:

Canada ~ Glazed salmon and maple creme brulee (both were superlative); also my husband absolutely adored the ice wine

Argentina ~ Both the empanada and the beef with chimichurri sauce

Morocco ~ Both the chicken bastilla and the pistachio baklava

"Champagne" booth ~ the truffles

Mexico ~ the chorizo/chicken quesadilla

Just ok were:

Africa ~ the Baboutie

Greece ~ the baklava

US ~ the crabcakes and the blackberry cobbler (which really needed ice cream)

India ~ the vegetable curry

Canada ~ the cheddar cheese soup

And the disappointments were:

Ireland ~ leek and potato soup

Thailand ~ vegetable curry with jasmine rice

Happy eating, everyone! :)

We were at the FAWF the first two days this year. I had a Maine Lobster roll - it was good and getting it with a snack credit from DDP was a great deal but I would like to point out that you will never find a lobster roll anything like that in the state of Maine - too much filler. Our version is just lobster and a little mayo.

I'm a vegetarian, and here's what I've eaten at F & W so far (there are a few more things I want to try)

Mexico:
Conga Juice- very good, sweet and not acidic

Chile:
Porotos Granados (bean and corn stew)- not very flavorful, strong taste of beans but not bad

China:
Caramel Ginger Ice Cream- large portion, buttery with a hint of ginger, good!

Oktoberfest/Germany:
Vegetable Strudel with Remoulade Sauce- very good, reminded me of a spring roll but with a different flavor

Italy:
Timballo alla Penne e Capri (penne with eggplant and ricotta)-very good, just the right amount of cheese, eggplant cooked well

USA:
Blackberry Cobbler- small size (think Jello shot) but good

India:
Vegetable Curry with Basmati Rice- good, smaller portion (espresso cup)

France:
Creme Brulee au Chocolat- good, light, large portion

Ireland:
Potato Leek Soup- very disappointing! not creamy like past years...clear broth with chunks of potato and leeks, but it was good. Just not what i was expecting and not what I remembered!!

Canada:
Mission Hill Reserve Riesling Icewine- small sample but you always get a small amount of icewine. CM gave me a good pour though!

Greece:
Spanakopita- very good, spinach and cheese and a flaky shell

No pierogi at Poland?
