Food and Wine Reviews

They do still accept Disney Dollars? Thanks for all reviews. Did anyone try the empanadas? Comments?

I had the empanada and I really enjoyed it. My husband thought it was a little plain. It's pretty big and it filled me up for a few hours!

We went on both Saturday and Sunday. I felt it was TOO hot during the day to try any type of soup even though I would have loved to try the cheese soup in Canada. But the things we did try - Chorizo y pollo quesadilla (which I had 2 years ago and really liked) again it was a hit - I make this at home but always forget the cheese!! In Mexico they had the pay at one point and get food at another - one tip to remember with this is that if you want a drink - even a water you have to pay for it when you pay for your food - don't wait till you are up to the front of the booth that is handing out the food. We were back early afternoon on Sunday and we tried the Papas Con Chorizo from Spain and it was pretty good - my DH said it was like Spanish sloppy joe. Was dissapointed in the Champange booth because they did not have chocolate truffles and I was not going to pay $8 for a small glass of champange. Good thing because the Zepole and Pinot Grigio wine in Italy was delicious!! The zepole is a pastry type thing with chocolate cream inside (almost like chocolate mousse) I should have gotten another one of those because it was small but it was awesome!! I wish I had one right now!! Even the Italian guy who served it to me said "good choice" It seems that when they were not busy they took the cash right at the booth - or maybe it was only like that at a few booths. Didn't really figure it out. Instead of getting the sausage on a pretzel roll on Germany I opted for my usual a bratwurst with sauerkraut at Summerfest (or whatever the CS is in Germany) The sausage at the booth for the F&W was very tiny and I felt not worth it (besides I wasn't sure of the pretzel roll!!) We also had pot stickers in China and I stood in line an extremely long time and was dissapointed that there was only 2 potstickers where 2 years ago there was 3 for the same price. We also tried the beef empenada in Argentina and it was ok not great. Should have ordered the spicy beef but then again they ran out of it and there was a whole bunch of people waiting for theirs. We also tried the wine from New Zealand - I ordered the Pinot Gris and my DH the Chardonney - I watch him pour the wines and noted the color of the chardonney- as he handed them to me he told me the one I watched him pour out of the pinot gris was the chardonney and vice versa - we didn't care for either. It was too dry - the pinot grigio in Italy was much better - less dry.

We went over this evening to see Mickey Thomas and Starship... we were not disappointed and stayed for all three sets.

Before we went to Showcase, we stopped at the Electric Umbrella in Future World, and picked up a couple packets of salt and pepper. Then we went back to Argentina for the "Grilled Beef Sirloin with Chimichurri" with mashed potatos, and of course, the "Marinated Strawberries with Basil". It was better than the first time! Especially with the s & p on the beef and potatos... Wow, the empanadas would have been better with hot sauce but I don't know where the have that in little packets except maybe Taco Bell. That's an idea...

DW had the "Semolina Con Leche" at Chile, and said it was good but different than flan.

I still have a lot of tasting to do, and it's early in the festival... but at this point it looks like Argentina will get my 2006 "BEST" awards for BEST Entree, BEST Desert and "Best New Country".

Doesn't each food kiosk have it's own salt and pepper? :confused3

Oh I forgot about the strawberries and basil - that was awesome too!! We're going back on Sunday and I can hardly wait!

Going on the 20th can't wait.

I was in the Orlando area on business this week and some of us went over last night to eat.

Argentina. We tried the Empanada and threw most of it away. Wine (Cabernet) was so so.

Mexico, Both dishes were great

China, Potstickers got a thumbs up.

Morocco. The beef Kefta was good.

France. Goat Cheese Tart. I was the only one eating this, it's good, but was a bit much for me (and I love goat cheese)

Ireland Potato Leek Soup. WE liked this.

Poland. Piergoes and Kiebasa. This is one of my favs every year.

Canda. Cheddar Cheese Soup. Good as always and I really think the container was the same size as last year. The new desert was so so.

America. Lobster Roll.. OK, but don't have to do it again. Crab Cake very good.

There was more consumed (especially on the booze side) but I didn't take notes so this was all I remember.

What is Conga Juice? I've heard about it before, but I'm not sure what it is.

I don't think anyone has answered this yet, and I want to know too!

Yea! Pierogi and kielbasa. Our favorites also. :thumbsup2

We went late yesterday afternoon. It was pretty crowded. The normal number of people in line at a booth was from ten to fifteen. Some booths run multiple lines. We waited the longest at Australia. They ran out of shrimp. We had to wait about five minutes for them to cook more. We had shrimp at Australia, kielbasa at Poland (this was my favorite), cheddar cheese soup at Canada and chocolate creme brulee at France.

Most of the booths are using the laminated cards. France simply stamps a piece of paper next to the food items you request.

It was pretty hot yesterday. Not much of a breeze. I almost melted while waiting in line at Australia. I only noticed a couple of really drunk people. Of course, it was only 5pm. We left by 6:30 pm.

Hopefully the crowds will have died down by Oct. 17 thats when I am going with DH and DS! ;)

Where can you buy Conga??? I had some last year and am definately going to get some this year. I want to bring some home!

Great thread! Loved reading the reviews. I can't wait to get there next week. :dogdance:

One thing I missed from last year... they used to have samples of each item offered for viewing in a plexiglass container. For all of the unfamiliar foods, it was nice to see what it was. They didn't have that this year.

I would also echo the comment that it would be better without children unless they are adventurous eaters. I went to this event last year on my own and loved it, ate my way around the World Showcase for both lunch and dinner and thorougly enjoyed the whole concept. This past week visiting with my DH and two DDs, however, was not the same experience. I'm really the only one in the family willing to try new things food-wise, and it was hot and they were tired, and, well, let's just say it wasn't the same.
