My question is about having a car. I have arranged for r/t transportation from the airport, but I am thinking having a car would be nice. We plan on resort hopping to see all the decorations, going to DTD for some shopping, as well as go to all 4 theme parks, although a majority of our time will be at Epcot and MK. Having never been to WDW at holiday time, I have no idea what crowds will be like. I can only imagine that Disney transportation will be very crowded!!

That was my initial post, well at least part of it. I received numerous responses, and just wanted to say thanks! We have decided to go ahead and rent the car. I think it will go unused on some days, but that's okay. Keep in mind that this decision is subject to change as we are leaving on Saturday. Who knows what will hapeen between now and then!!

I always rent a car. On my trip last week, it took us 1 hour and 10 minutes to get from MGM to BWV on the boat! It was around 7:05, Fantasmic just let out. We went for the Osborne Lights. When we got to the dock area, a boat had just left. They was still quite a few people standing there. The next boat did not come until about 7:35 and we were about 5 people short of getting on (they have a clicker and stop the line). Finally got on about 7:55. Got to BWV about 8:15. Would have been faster to walk, but I had my mom with me who isn't up to walking that far.

We only used the bus to MK for MVMCP. Waited about 20 minutes for the bus, was not crowded and went straight to MK. On the way back, we only waited about 5 minutes, not crowded. Stopped at BWV then was going to Swan/Dolphin. Was happy BWV was first.

The rest of the time I used the car to MK. I timed it at 35 minutes from the room to the turnstiles one morning around 11:00. Used the car to AK & DTD. We also went offsite to the outlets, grocery shopping, restaurants.

I paid $112 including tax at National. Emerald Aisle w/$20 Entertainment Coupon. Got a Chevy Imapala. A towncar from the airport would cost at least as much.

If you have luck with rental car rates please let me know. I have received price quotes from several companies that want to charge $400+ next week for a compact. :earseek: NO THANK YOU!

$400/week for a compact??? Florida usually has some of the cheapest rentals. I have a car this week, and I am paying $113/week a Toyota Camry, which is now considered full sized.

They are getting gouged for Christmas week.

Tell me about it!

This is the first time that I won't be renting a car for our full stay!

The prices are ridiculous!

I even talked with the National Rep yesterday and there is not a car to be had!

It was cheaper for me to rent a limo to and from WDW and rent a car for a day! than to have the car for the full time there!

It's all about supply and demand!LOL

Good Luck if you can find a cheap rental!

I planned for a rental car at the same 11 month window that I used for our ressies and got a Camry-sized car for $228 total including all of the taxes, etc, etc, for 1 week and 1 day...I've not seen a cheaper price available since then.

I guess my "excessive planning" as some of my family has hinted at has paid off once again!!

WOW!

I'll have to remember that for next year!

We had originally arranged for limo transportation to and from the airport. But then we looked at cars and found that it was less expensive to rent a full sized car for a week then to rent the limo. We cancelled the limo and rented the car. When we got to National, they accidently gave us a Mitsubishi Endeavor instead. It was heaven to have a car. You don't pay for parking anywhere with a resort pass on your windshield. And one night, we just went out for Pizza for dinner.
