It's our first time flying with our toddler and a group of 7, so I'm a bit anxious.
We're flying Southwest. I'm going to check in at the 24-hour mark and hope for the best, knowing that worst comes to worst we'll be able to pre-board between the A's and the B's.
Our flight has a stop but we're not changing planes. So what happens at this stop? Some people get off and some new people get on?? If we wanted to change seats at the stop, or grandma wanted to move closer to us or whatnot, could we do that? Or is that not allowed?
I don't know how this works and I'm nervous!!

SW does allow 1 family member and the under four child to board AFTER the A section boards, (which is
after all the pre boards and the business class AND the new $10. people). That would only apply for you when you originally get on the plane obviously...cause you'll have your seats for second leg of flight.
You'll be able to kinda "hold" some seats near you for the rest of family (as long as some Vocal person does not make a scene, as then SW may explain that you cannot hold any seats....usually people are good though....
Keep in mind that IF you are checking in at 24 hour mark (first be sure your clock on your computer is ACCURATE time, use one of those web sites, every second counts with sw, LOL)
THEN just be aware that IF you are checking in more than five people, they sometimes will not allow it all in one transaction...so sometimes you have to go back in...BUT don't stress, just continue as needed. As happened to us in past, we were not even able to check in for part of our extended group (8), and they chose to go to airport to early to do it. Online only allows a certain number to check in on line, then it says just report to airport and blocks all further online check ins. ....If thats the case, give yourself plenty of extra time.
That being said, I fly them exclusively and love SW, so I really see no issues for you and personally would not pay that extra $10 per person.
As far as check in at 24 mark, don't forget to do it
regardless if you use another hotel or a guest service at a park to do it. They do it all the time. It is easily done and (done it many times) and will make your life simpler in long run....Just be sure to have Pix ID (some ask you) and your confirmation number and approach them a few minutes early so you can then be On Time with your check in!
Again, I really use SW alot and think they are a great airline having just earned my next free flight with them again.
