Flying Southwest and locking luggage

I use Zip-ties .

Tsa will replace after cutting and leave a note inside .

I just want to know if someone was in my bags because you can't stop them with those locks .

They just stick a icepick anywhere in the zipper to seperate opening the bag. Then when they are done they just force the locked zippers back around.

I know the zip-ties won't stop this either but they tend to cut them rather then ruining the zipper.

Zip Ties! When we got home from WDW in October, DH found a note in his luggage from the TSA stating that his bag was opened. If he had not seen the note, we wouldn't had realized that they had opened the bag because they had placed another zip tie on the bag to "lock" it. (We had spares ties in the luggage.) I thought that was a nice gesture for TSA to do so.

My DH had packed his electric razor and charger in the suitcase so that is probably why the bag was opened.

I was going to buy the TSA approved locks but I thought the zip ties worked just as well.

We used the TSA approved locks. My SIL had her luggage searched and they relocked the bag and left a note inside.

They always leave a note when they have checked it. Doesn't matter what is in it. Last year they checked all of ours except my DH's which had all the electronics- radios, chargers etc. !

If you can't carry scissors on the plane, how do you open the zip ties when you arrive?

I wouldn't bother with the TSA locks. If you encounter a location where they don't have the master key they will ruin your luggage.

Never put anything of value in your luggage.

Another vote for zip ties. We leave a pair of fingernail clippers in one of the outside pockets to clip the ties. We actually had our zip tie removed and the luggage opened on our trip in Sept 04.....no note left though. We didn't realize it until we were already at the BCV upacking.

Just after 9/11, they were actually puting zipties on bags for you, and wouldn't let you carry anything the sligtest bit sharp with you. I found you could break the ties by inserting a pen and twisting.

I carry a razor cutter (box opener) in one of my CHECKED luggage pockets that doesn't get zippedtied .You can carry scissors and knives on checked bags just not caryy-ons .

The Nail clipper are a great idea as well.

And YES still no valueables this just stops the easy routing through .

I use a twist tie from a luggage company called Magellans.com. They are a little expensive, but they can be twisted and they break apart. Keeps the bag from opening by accident.
