Flying out of Appleton, WI (ATW)

I was wondering if anyone had any good experiences flying out of Appleton? I live in the Madison area and am looking at my options of airports to fly out of to Orlando.

Last year I got a great ticket price of $150 flying out of Chicago non stop to Orlando. If I can get that rate again, I would jump on that.

I am just trying to keep my options open.

We fly out of Appleton all the time. We have never had any issues that I can remember flying out of that airport and we fly a few times a year.

Thanks! Most likely we will be flying United. I can't decided if we should drive to O'hare again to get a non stop flight or fly out of Appleton/Madison/Milwaukee with a connecting flight. United's fares will be coming out in 9 days for my June 2014 dates and I have been playing around with schedules. I'll have to see what the fares are.

We usually fly United also out of ATW. When we do that we try to take an early United flight out of ATW just because then we have a less of a chance of being delayed going to Chicago. We have also learned to give ourselves at least a 2 hour layover whenever possible we fly into Chicago to help offset any potential delays and to cover how long of a walk it is from where Appleton flights usually come into Chicago and where we usually end up flying out for our next flight.

We generally fly into ATW (my inlaws live there) on Delta via MSP. We've only had a few issues - snow related - but the flights are pretty dependable. I would much rather connect in MSP than Ohare. My in-laws generally fly out of ATW (usually to visit us and connect in MSP) and have good luck. If prices are better, then they'll fly out of GRB. For trips to Disney, they generally fly out of ATW or drive to MKE and fly out there.

It's a pretty small airport with limited food/beverage options once you clear security but very convenient from a parking and navigating the airport standpoint.
