Flying in/over a hurricane

I'm flying out of Manchester, N.H. on Thursday night at 7 p.m. for Orlando.
By then, the hurricane should be slamming into the coast.

What do pilots do in this situation? Can planes just climb higher and fly right over? Do they circumvent it?

I'm curious about this, too! My twin sister is leaving Hartford at 8:00pm for Orlando on Thursday. I don't want her flying if there's any safety issues. Anyone ever been in this situation? Is the flight going to be really rough? She's not the most calm flyer, but I'd like to prewarn her to be sure to take her Dramamine!

I think they would just fly around it. Those storms have very high level wind currents, probably higher than commercial aircraft go. Just know well that your, and their safety, is at the forefront of the flight. Enoy the vacation.

I would imagine that Pilots ALSO pray a lot! I don't know what they'd do but perhaps the flights would be re-routed? (I should ask my cousin who is a pilot!)

Fasten your seatbelt & expect some turbulence!

I hate to say this, but a lot of flights are cancelled during hurricanes. We were in WDW during hurrican Erin. We were scheduled to fly out the following morning, but couldnt because no planes had flown in during the hurricane.

Well, I'm a bit of a worrywort, so I changed my flight.
I'm now leaving Wednesday night, instead. Cost me $50, but for the peace of mind, I'll pay it.

Now I need to find a place to stay for one night... Any tips?

Thats great! Definitely worth the money. No worries AND youll get there sooner. I did see your other thread about the resorts. Since it will be late, I would probably try to get something at the airport, sleep in the next morning, then take off to WDW. But I would definitely call ahead and try to book it now.
