Flying during Spring Break

Have you looked at flying Allegiant to FLL? We drove to Plattsburgh once (2 hours) to fly cheap and direct to FLL and it was worth it!

I've looked into flying into FLL and price wise its about the same as Miami.

Thanks for the suggestion. I won't fly any of the discount carriers because from our area they have very limited flights. I tried it once and when our flight home was cancelled we couldn't get on another flight for four days. We ended rebooking on another airline to get home. They're fine when everything works right, but when something goes wrong it can be a big mess. I have a co-worker that flies Allegiant all the time to Florida, but she has a condo & vehicle there so it's not too bad for her, other than having to take the extra vacation time.

We need to buy airline tickets for spring break and right now the prices are insane ($500 -$1200 pp). For those who have traveled during spring break weeks before, is it better to just bite the bullet and book now, or do prices go down at all?

I booked our spring break flights in July, and we're a week later than the MA schools. But the price was decent-ish for the 4 of us to fly first class with one stop. I don't think anyone can really predict the fares accurately right now. If there's a ton of demand and not a lot of seats, they will get as high as they can sell. If demand craters, prices will come back down.

I'd just buy and never look at the prices again if it got to the point where I thought I wouldn't want to pay more than x.

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. I ended up booking this morning. $432 r/t with one stop (1.5 hours) on the way down and non-stop on the way back. Best part was I ended up having enough airline miles for one free ticket. I was comfortable with that price as I don't think it will go down much more given spring break/Easter, and it was much better than what I had been finding.

Still stalking fares here..: southwest is our first choice since they offer nonstop. Other carriers have same high fares ($800 round trip) Texas-MCO, but I can see in their seat selection that their planes are largely empty still, so hoping SWA’s is as well. So, I’m playing the waiting game to see if rates come down. If I see AA and Delta flights filling up at these rates, we will bite the bullet, but hoping to get family of 4 airfare < $2,500.
