They have been 99.99, but a couple nights ago, I saw them at Walmart for $85, wouldn't that figure since I paid 99.99, but that is the best deal so far. As far as what to buy to go with, that will depend on the age you are getting it for. Mine is for an almost 8 year old girl, so all she is getting is the pen and some extra paper. However, her bday is 3 weeks after Christmas and she will get the spelling cartridge and hopefully one more, but not sure which one.
I have yet to see ANY deals on them - I used a 20% off TRU coupon and that's the only discount I've found so far. A friend was looking for one earlier this week and they were hard to find, so pricing may be pretty firm right now. You really don't need to buy anything else with it as there's plenty to do with the $99 package. We're giving DS the FLYBALL for Christmas so I'll post on that after the holidays.
amazon.com has them for $99 - recommend you read the reviews posted by people on amazon.com before purchasing. They may help you decide if you want to begin this investment. Looks like it can add up quickly by the time you buy the special notebook, speaker, charger, etc. Someone posted their investment racked up $350...ouch!
There's so much to do with the "basic" set up that I really don't see the NEED to buy anything else honestly. Maybe eventually we'll need to buy more paper but for now there's more than enough for my son to do. It comes with nice earphones and I just can't see the need for speakers or things like that (the volume is pretty good when you're not using headphones). So far we're still on our first battery so the value of the $30 charger seems minimal (how many AAA's can I buy for that?!). The real test to me is whether he picks it up and uses it next summer.... time will tell.
