De-lurking here to ask if anyone has had the flu this season? I had the vaccine, but I've developed a fever, flushed face, achey all over, especially my back, tired...it jumped on me pretty quick.
Thanks.

The girls and I had the flu Christmas week..it was horrid!! Your symptoms sound like how we felt except add nausea to it. We didn't get the vaccine this year since we had it last year and STILL got the flu. Hope you feel better!

Thanks, Angela. I've got the headache coming on now. I think I had the flu about 12 years ago, so I don't remember too much about it.

the one and only time I got the flu shot, I got the flu so bad, I honestly thought I was going to die! I am not a baby at ALL when I am sick, but I remember laying there in bed, remembering all the stories of people dying of the flu and I honest to goodness thought I was going to kick the bucket I felt so horrible! I will NEVER get a flu shot again!

I hope you feel better soon! :grouphug:

My son just finished getting over the flu. It started last weekend, he was tired and napped Sat. and Sun. (he's 8 btw). Sunday night he had a high fever. Monday we went to the Dr. - sure enough flu. Fever was high for a few more days, very exhausted, not eating much at all, cough getting worse. He was better mid week for about a day (not great but better). By Friday the temp. was back up and the cough worse so off to the Dr. again. Still just the flu, nothing on top of it. By Saturday, he's was just about back to normal and today, he's back to himself. It was a very nasty week - luckily no one else got ill. Flu shots for everyone next year and I'm taking my oldest tomorrow to get one. Dr. said it wasn't too late to get the vaccine.

I hope you are feeling better soon - it was a long, miserable week for us.

I felt like I was gonna die too! The girls were fine after 2 days but I had the flu for 9 days and lost 8lbs..almost made me think it was worth it LOL. I also had a bad headache and felt VERY lightheaded as well.

:grouphug: to the OP.

We always get the flu vaccine, but do occasionally still get the flu. DD had a a stomache bug about 10 days before Christmas. Luckily, it was pretty mild.

It's still possible to get the flu, even if you've had the flu vaccine. The vaccine just inocculates you against the strains that are expected to be a problem, not against all flu strains out there. So, you can pick up a flu that you haven't been inocculated against.

Go to the doctor ASAP! My son had the flu and was put on Tamiflu. We went to the doctor as soon as his symptoms started on a Friday and he only missed school Monday. The Tamiflu worked extremely well in shortening his duration but he still felt and looked like crap for the first 2 days!

He had gotten his flu shot the Friday before so he hadn't built up enough antibodies for it to be effective. I NEVER take the flu shot (even though I'm a nurse) and just happened to take on this year. I'm glad I did so I could take care of him, but I had a funky lacy rash only on my arms and legs so I won't be taking it again.

There have been several different rounds of something go around the school where I work. Two of them came with a fever. It could be something different than the strain covered by the shot. They pick the one they think will be the worst when they develop the vaccine. Sometimes, they pick wrong.

Nope, nothing yet. I only get the flu about once in 5 years or so.

Last year my son tested positive for Influenza Type A. Nobody else in the family got it but him.

It doesn't seem to have hit my area that hard this year, even though the ER here treats 250 patients or more per day, I guess it's for other viruses. Very often people think they have influenza but really it's just a nasty cold.

Hope you all feel better soon!

Not this year, but last year I had the flu shot and I'm almost positive that I had the flu--all the symptoms, but it wasn't as severe as it would have been without the shot. Two-3 days later one of my boys got it and I brought him in and it was the confirmed flu and he went on tamiflu. He hadn't had the shot and he was SO sick, but after 24 hours of tamiflu he was doing great. A couple days before I was sick, my youngest was sick, too. I didn't have him tested, however.

I had it a few years ago after just having my flu shot. I remember counting the minutes until I could take more medicine to relieve the aches and pains. I still get the flu shot every year and that is the only time I have had the flu in probably 15 years.

My son had Tamiflu as well. Either it didn't help him much or he would have been incredibly more ill without it. As it was, he was pretty sick. I have gotten the flu shot for several years. I'm glad I had it this year. I felt like I could care for the little guy without feeling like I was going to get it too.

I have never gotten the flu (knocking on wood!) I got the flu shot this year, I only get the shot once in a blue moon.

I hope you feel better fast!!:)

Thanks, everyone. I'm still pretty achey this morning with a little temp. If it is the flu, I'm hoping the vaccine will keep it from turning into a bad case.
