What the heck do they make the flu shot out of...Cobra venom?? Fire from the pits of Hades?? Just got my flu shot this morning and it hurt like a non-DIS approved word. The pinch of the needle was bad enough, but when she pushed the fluid in it burned!!

Stupid nurse didn't even give me a lollipop...:guilty:

I want my mommy.

Interesting. I had my flu shot two weeks ago and it took less than two seconds and I hardly felt it. No pain at all.

My flu shot hurt for about 4 days after the dr. gave it to me.
Mine too. I am absolutely terrified of needles, but I get the flu shot or else my sister threatens me that I cannot see my niece and nephew. This year the needle didn't hurt at all, the fluid didn't hurt at all...but OMG 2 hours after the shot my arm was killing me. I couldn't sleep on my arm for 2 nights it hurt so bad.

It doesnt hurt me when the doctor gives it but man does my arm get so sore the next day.

Heres a few lollipops to make it all better!

To the OP -- I'm sorry you're hurting so much! :(

I think this came up last year, but I have to ask again... Unless there are some contraindications, such as allergy to eggs or whatnot, why on earth is there anyone still getting a SHOT??? :confused3 DS and I get FluMist every year. Squirt up your nose, tastes like candy, no flu for us (or even colds, since we started getting the vaccine.) It just puzzles me when I hear people volunteering for unnecessary pain...

just curious,

I don't think all insurance covers the mist. Personally, shots don't bother me in the least - I got allergy shots once a week for years as a child, so I guess I'm desensitized?

Is the mist the one that is Live Virus or am I totally confused?

That sucker burns! I got the shot too right before I was discharged from the hospital I had no choice between shot or mist. I think I still would have taken the shot.

Unlike the flu shot, the nasal spray flu vaccine does contain live viruses.

LAIV (FluMist®) is approved for use in healthy* people 2-49 years of age who are not pregnant.

Who should not be vaccinated with the nasal-spray flu vaccine LAIV (FluMist®)?

People less than 2 years of age

People 50 years of age and over

People with a medical condition that places them at high risk for complications from influenza, including those with chronic heart or lung disease, such as asthma or reactive airways disease; people with medical conditions such as diabetes or kidney failure; or people with illnesses that weaken the immune system, or who take medications that can weaken the immune system.

Children <5 years old with a history of recurrent wheezing

Children or adolescents receiving aspirin

People with a history of Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare disorder of the nervous system

Pregnant women

People who have a severe allergy to chicken eggs or who are allergic to any of the nasal spray vaccine components.

The flu shot I got yesterday hurt worse (and still hurts worse) than any other flu shot I've ever had. Owww. I wonder why?

Mine didn't hurt at all this year when I got it. The next two days were a different story.:scared:

My arm hurts for several days - and I get sick to boot! But I have to have it - no if's, ands, or but's - so I just suck it up..

I got the mist last year and it really messed up my sinuses.
So this year I'm being brave and going with the shot. Rather have a moment of pain in my arm than a day's worth of sinus pressure in my face :headache:

I got mine this morning too. I've had it each year and it didn't hurt getting it but WOW is my arm sore. Nothing like I remember in past years.

Oh well, at least I'm protected.

I think I remember reading that the mist wasn't as effective as the shot.

Anyway, I got mine in the beginning of October. I've always been in the high risk category, but my oncologist made me get it this year.
The needle was fine for me, I barely felt it. I've gotten needles in places you'd have never thought of, so it was fine. The next two days were a different story. I was SOOO sore.
