Flowers, 5Ks, and Fiancées-A May 2011 TR *Updated 4/30 The Last Update*

LOL, I always kick things or hit my legs on something in hotels rooms in the middle of the night, your poor DF! Bringing a night light isn't actually a bad idea!

You don't like ToT??? :scared1: It's my favorite ride in the entire world!! :rotfl:

I can't even imagine how annoying the TSM stampede must be, it must have been nice to skip it! I haven't done it yet, I'm dreading the day I decide to try it!

I think its cute you two match!!! :goodvibes

Poor guy running into the toilet like that, ok I have to admit I laughed when you made the comment about him sprinting into the bathroom :lmao: Im sure that hurt, he must have hit it hard to get a knot like that!!

I loved your view of the race! And I'm glad you enjoyed it too! DF and I had so much fun too! We too have said that as long as they run it, you can count us in as being there for it. Looks like you had fun at the after party too, I can't wait to hear about your morning at HS!

That's awesome that you both loved the race, as well. Hopefully, next year, they won't create a clue that's as difficult to figure out as the 2nd one. :rotfl:

You know, the smashing-into-the-toilet thing is SO something my husband would do. In fact, I imagine he HAS done it. Poor guy. Hope it didn't mess up his trip too much.

This year was the first time I participated in the TSM dash. It was...interesting. And by interesting I mean insane.

Oooh, the TSM dash is pure insanity. I guess Star Tours didn't deflect any of the madness when you were there, which I think was what the CMs were hoping would happen. And you had to do it with two young children! :scared1::worship:

Wow at being able to ride EE in the dark - your description of the view sounds amazing! :thumbsup2

Lol at forgetting where your car was parked! We have done that at a theme park in the UK and although you hate it at the time it is something you will look back and laugh at! Lol at taking the pic the next day - we always do that now as well!

I was wondering why there was a second update as well! Hope you have managed to make some wedding invitations.

Eek at DFs leg and him injuring it on the goshdarn toilet!

Look forward to seeing where it is you end up going.

Losing a car definitely taught us a valuable lesson. Unfortunately, something happened at the end of the trip that made the pictures worthless.
No invitations have been done yet, but we're going to get DF's tux today, and Monday I'll be hard at work. (So look for an update about Monday afternoon.:lmao:)

I was naive during my first trip, and I didn't think it'd be that bad. Now, I have learned and DF and I agree that skipping the madness is much calmer.
Both DF and my younger brother love ToT; I just hate that feeling of air time and negative G forces. :confused3

I think its cute you two match!!! :goodvibes

I don't know how he managed to hit it that bad, but somehow he did. :rotfl:

That race looks like it was a lot of fun. I can only imagine how awesome Expedition Everest was at night after having ran the race and finished the scavenger hunt. I'm surprised you were able to tear yourself away from Everest to go on Dinosaur.

I'm just glad Alex's injury was a run in with the toilet and not shin splints.

Hi! joining in late. I saw that you joined my trippie so I came over to check out yours. OK, I need to go back to reading!

After trying and hate Dinosaur again, I won't waste my time on that attraction again. :rotfl:

Hello everyone! I had every intention of posting an update earlier this week. However, I've been making wedding invitations and they are taking soooo long. Much longer than I thought. I had to break away from them today, though, and get a Disney fix by writing an update. :rotfl:

Before I begin, though, I just want to say that I have something brewing in the works that could possibly mean a very spur of the moment getaway. (And DF won't be involved with this at all!)

May 8th Morning:

As soon as rope drop occurred, the mass of people standing at the entrance to the park headed straight towards the sorcerer's hat. DF and I, on the other hand, took a right on Sunset Boulevard.

We were headed for my favorite coaster.

Dsc04332.jpg

Rock N Roller Coaster!

I rode this 3 times back in December, and I fell head over heels in love with it. In my mind, it was a much better ride to rush to first thing in the morning.
Since everyone was nabbing TSM fastpasses and chatting with Mr. Potato Head, DF and I grabbed two FPs of our own for RNRC, and then walked through an empty queue all the way to the beginning video.

I waited for Aerosmith to realize they were late and to send us on a ride in a super stretch limo.

Earlier that morning, I created a goal for myself to try and get really good pictures of each of the rides. Unfortunately, the line for RNRC was moving so quickly that this was the best shot I got:

f1 by Alicia Wolchick, on Flickr

After taking our first spin on the ride, DF insisted we get a picture together near the gigantic guitar. He wanted one in December, but it was always too crowded, and I was always too grumpy.

Dsc04363.jpg

I obliged this time, though, and posed for a photo. However, for some reason, it looks as if I'm about to keel over. I guess my sense of vertigo was still messed up from the ride.

DF and I walked back to the ride entrance and saw that it was empty once again.

So we rode it again.

And again. :lmao:

After exiting for the 3rd time, I told DF that we really needed to explore the rest of the park. He looked at the queue line and gave me a look that said, "But it's still walk on! We could do it."

I stood my ground, though, and we began our walk down Sunset Blvd.

There was a photopass photographer standing in the middle of the street, and DF and I figured we might as well get our first ever photopass picture.

Dsc04366.jpg

After that we decided to stroll around, not really forming any concrete plans.

It was about 9:45, and the park was still empty.
A complete 180 from December, when it was jam-packed.

Dsc04376.jpg

We walked by the sorcerer's hat, then past the AI Experience. I saw the Academy Awards busts and they reminded me of the last time I was at DHS. DF and I were taking our time and exploring the park, just like we were doing now.
It made me realize that this was one of my favorite pastimes in this park.
Who would've thought???:confused3

We walked along until we reached Star Tours, where we had to give it a quick wave. Unfortunately, it was not open yet, so all we could do was enjoy the signs for its upcoming release.
f2 by Alicia Wolchick, on Flickr

After ten minutes or so, DF and I found ourselves on the Streets of America, looking at the Muppets water fountain.

"Oooh, go stand in front of it and do something funny!"

DF crinkled his eyes at me. "What?"

"Look, this is our second trip here; we can't just stand up straight and take the same obligatory photos-we have to do something that will make this trip stand out!"

DF shook his head at me.

"Please???"

"Why don't you go do a funny pose, and I'll take the photo?"

"Fine."

Giving DF the camera, I strolled over to the fountain and showed DF how to act silly at WDW.

Dsc04388.jpg

Dsc04390.jpg

After I returned and took the camera back, DF still wouldn't do anything but stand in front of the fountain.

It was one of the few battles I lost on the trip.

We both decided it was time to sit down for a bit, so DF and I went into the Muppets theater and headed straight for the auditorium.
Dsc04398.jpg

The place was dead.

Dsc04404.jpg

I think there might have been ten other families in the show with us.

I know the show is a little outdated, but I love the Muppets, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Plus, it was something we didn't get to do in December, so I was excited to experience something unfamiliar.

DF and I left the theater, and immediately, I picked up where I left off, taking photographs of my surroundings while we walked down Commissary Lane.

Dsc04414.jpg

I tried to get a shot of both us, while we were both alert and happy and before we became tired and grouchy.

Dsc04416.jpg

Unlike our last trip, where DF and I were rushing to get through all the major rides we could while fighting the massive crowds, this morning was slow and enjoyable. We had gone almost a full loop around the park and were able to take in the beautiful weather, the empty streets, the sounds of the park operating.

However, it was only 10:15, and the two of us still had a lot of morning left to enjoy DHS.

Up Next: Stitch for Pluto? Sounds Good.

:yay: on making some wedding invites!!

Wow an impromptu getaway - look forward to hearing all about it when it materialises! ;) Hope it comes together for you!

Love the RnR shots - have not seen many of the inside so thanks for sharing. Wow at the number of times you guys went on this and lol at DF still wanting to go on again! It is one of the rides I'm a bit weary of since I will be riding solo. We'll see if I decide to brave up in Sept!

Love your funny fountain pics!! Had me laughing out loud! :thumbsup2 It's a shame that DF was not willing to do a silly pose.

Can't wait to see Muppets and am glad you guys enjoyed wondering around DHS after rushing to all the major attractions on your last trip.

Hmm...what could the getaway be....:confused3

I can't believe how empty the park was for your DHS morning, I guess everyone was going crazy at TSM as usual!

I think your pic of the RnR queue is cool, because its moving and all the lights :thumbsup2 I have skipped Muppets the last two times, but this next trip I am going to try and see it

I can never think of anything creative for photos at WDW and then I come on here and see a million...I need someone to think of ideas for me :rotfl:

The possible getaway is still up in the air, as of right now, so I don't want to get my hopes up by posting possible details. :lmao:

For some reason, I have a lot of RNRC pictures, and I will probably post them in my next post, because DF and I still had our FPs to use.
I love the ride, but I'd be a little nervous, too, if I had to ride it by myself. So I can see where you're coming from. Too bad you couldn't trick Zaheer into going on it!

The crowds were unusually low during our trip. There was only one night when the park was packed. :confused3
I tried to come up with some interesting pictures, but almost every time I tried to pose for one, there'd be a random family standing next to me, and they'd look at me like I was crazy, so I'd chicken out. :rotfl:

Rock N Roller Coaster three times in a row is such a great start to the day. I think instead of Muppetvision, I would have gone to Tower of Terror next. It is fun to just relax and explore, though.

DF would agree with you there. Unfortunately, I'm a big chicken and can't handle ToT. :rotfl: Although, my younger brother swears he'll get me on it again one day. Between him and my DF, I have a feeling I'm fighting a losing battle. :confused3

So, sadly, my getaway trip has fallen through. My mother was hoping to take me and my younger brother to WDW for a week as a birthday present for me, and to have one last family trip before I'm married off. Unfortunately, some unforseen things occured that have made it impossible, but now I'm trying to convince my mother to plan a mother/daughter trip next spring. We'll have to see how that all pans out.

May 8th Morning cont.d

DF and I made our way down Commissary Lane, not really headed in any particular direction. As we were nearing the back of the Sorcerer's Hat, we overheard CMs shouting encouragements to enter a certain attraction.

I looked to my left and saw they were standing in front of the Great Movie Ride.
Dsc04418.jpg

"You want to go on it? We've got plenty of time to kill," DF asked.

I hesitated.
The last time I'd been on the ride was when I came to WDW with my family.

I was seven.

And I remember hating the ride.

My parents had assured me it would be interesting. They kept saying, "It's about movies, Alicia, you'll enjoy it."

Unfortunately, since I was so young, I had no idea what mobsters and aliens were. I remember being so disappointed in how boring the attraction was that even the scene from Wizard of Oz couldn't perk me up.

Even with that bad memory floating around in my head, I told myself to give the ride a second chance. I was 13 years older and had seen a lot more films in that span of time.

Just like the Muppets, the Great Movie Ride was empty.

f2 by Alicia Wolchick, on Flickr

DF and I didn't even have time to get a good look at the movie props showcased in the line. Which was a little bit of a bummer, for me, because they had a Queen Elizabeth costume from the movie, Shakespeare in Love, that I would have loved to look at.

DF and I stood in a room with movie clips playing for about thirty seconds (long enough for us to see some Indiana Jones) before we were ushered straight into a car.
Dsc04436.jpg

I tried to get some pictures of the scenery during the ride, but the only two that came out decent were from the Wizard of Oz scene, which I found slightly ironic, seeing as that used to be the one thing I liked about the attraction.
f3 by Alicia Wolchick, on Flickr

My favorite part of the ride this time around turned out to be the very end, when the car stops in front of a huge screen and you watch a montage of various movie clips. DF and I really enjoyed naming the movies the scenes were from and identifying the music playing in the background.

In the end, I'm really glad I gave the ride another try, because it ended up being one of my favorites at DHS. It's probably in my top 15 list of favorites, which is pretty hard to get on.

Back out in the park, DF and I checked the time and saw it was 10:45; it was time to use our RNRC fastpasses!
Dsc04477.jpg

By the time we made it back over to the ride, the lines had picked up and we were thankful we had been smart enough to remember to get FPs. (We usually don't have a lot of luck in that department.)

So, for the 4th time that morning, we walked through the queue and entered G Force studios.
f1 by Alicia Wolchick, on Flickr

The ride was just as fun that time around, but I, for sure, had gotten my fill of Aerosmith for the time being.

Leaving the ride and walking back down Sunset Blvd, I made a quick pit stop at a restroom and when I returned, I saw DF grinning at me like a fool.
Dsc04481.jpg

"Yessssss???"

"Look closely," DF said, still smiling.

I thought he meant look at what was around me, so I glanced behind him.

We were standing in front of the Planet Hollywood store, which I knew DF loved. His family used to eat at the restaurant when they had vacations, so it was sort of a nostalgic place for him.

"Did you find something cool in the store?"

DF shook his head. "No, look at my lanyard!"

I looked. And saw a Stitch pin where a Pluto one used to reside.

"You made your first ever pin trade!"

DF's smile widened. "Yeah. I went into the store just to browse, and I started talking to the CM. I happened to see his pins and saw this cool Stitch. So, I pointed to it and said 'Stitch for Pluto?' And he just shrugged and said 'Sounds good.'"

DF's enthusiasm over the trade was a surprise to me. I knew he loved collecting the pins, but I didn't realize until right then how much he enjoyed it.

And, a small part of me at that moment, thought, "Oh dear;this hobby is going to get expensive. Every time I bring him here, he's going to want to buy more pins!"
It wasn't the nicest thought in the world, but my fears were justified by the end of the trip. Between the two of us, we had gone over 200 dollars over-budget on souvenirs!!!

At that point, we both checked our phones and saw that it was only 11:10 a.m. We had an 11:40 ADR at Sci Fi, but from past experience we knew it wouldn't take that long to get to the restaurant, so we settled on finding a seat and resting our feet for a bit.

We spotted a concrete ledge near Starring Rolls (which I looked at longingly, thinking about the delicious cupcakes inside). DF and I made ourselves comfortable, and then started messing with our phones, checking facebook, reading texts, replying to everyone's questions about how the race went.

Dsc04484.jpg

My mother had sent me a really sweet message, thanking me again for her Mother's Day gift earlier in the week, and once again I wished she could have been there with us. My mother loves Disney just as much as DF and I, and I have been trying for months to figure out a way to get her there. One day!

DF told me that if I wanted, he would make a funny face for the camera, to make up for his lack of creativity earlier. Laughing, I pulled the camera out and snapped a photo. When I went to look at it, though, I saw DF smiling normally, while I had a crazy expression on my face.
Dsc04486.jpg

"You're mean."

DF just smiled.

Returning our phones to my bag, DF suggested we go through Pixar Place to get to Sci Fi and see if, on the off-hand chance, there were any FPs for TSM left.
We both highly doubted it, since it was after eleven in the morning, and that ride is known for selling out very early.

When we got to the ride, we found where all the people were.
Dsc04491.jpg

Holy shish kabobs!!!

If it wasn't so insane, I would have laughed at the disparity in the park. Everywhere else was a ghost town, and on this one little street, hundreds of people were milled together.
Amazingly enough, DF and I were able to get FPs for the ride. Our return time was 6:05 and 7:05, which actually couldn't have been more perfect for our schedule.

Thankful for the pixie dust, DF and I walked along, taking pictures of signs and characters in the windows.

We soon stumbled upon a large poster advertising the new Pirate of the Caribbean movie. Naturally, I had to try and be as silly as possible.

Dsc04504.jpg

After the picture, DF handed me the camera and proceeded to stand in front of a huge Coke statue. Then, he made my day by posing in a funny way!

Dsc04507.jpg

He even did it again when we came upon a ton of bricks!

Dsc04511.jpg

I guess trading pins had put him in a ecstatic mood...

After our flurry of picture taking, DF and I tried to settle down and make some progress on getting to Sci Fi, but as we were walking down the Streets of America, who appeared out of the blue?
f4 by Alicia Wolchick, on Flickr

Mater!

Now, I've never been a big Cars fan; it just never hooked me the same way it did others, but it's my dad's favorite Disney film. So I had to get a picture for him.

With a few shots of the famous car captured, DF and I moved along, our stomachs growling. We both vividly remembered the burgers and shakes from our December trip, and our mouths were watering in anticipation. It was time to eat!

Up next: Just Lettuce and Cheese, No Buns?

I'm sorry to hear that your getaway trip has not come together :sad2: I really hope you get to go on a mother/daughter trip next spring.

Oh no on having a not so good memory of The Great Movie Ride. Am glad you gave it another chance and it is now in your top 15! :cool1:

Yay on riding RnRC again! DF looks soo happy to have made his first pin trade and I love that it even got him in the spirit of making fun poses! Uh oh on going over budget though as a result of the expensive hobby!

Wow at the crowds at Pixar Place!

Hahaha what a great race! The beginning sounded stressful though- I would've been so very angered! That alphabet/compass clue definitely required some thought. However, that would've really irritated me seeing other people running around telling each other the answers- half the fun is figuring out the clue for yourself!

The crowds in DHS look perfecto! I truly don't understand the TSM insanity- the one in CA Adventure is pretty much always a good solid 45 minutes, which I find completely unacceptable, however in WDW 45 min would be a miracle! Same thing w/ Soarin'!

Sorry to hear about the possible trip plans falling through, hopefully you and your mom can get a mother/daughter trip in :goodvibes

Sounds like you guys were having so much fun at DHS!!! Even though you went over budget (like I always do :rotfl:) at least DF was REALLY excited about the pin trading...thats Disney magic :goodvibes And it even paid off with his picture posing :thumbsup2

I like the Great Movie Ride...but I have been on it every trip since I was little, so sometimes I wouldn't mind skipping it :rotfl: I like the ending too...they show a fun mix of clips!

I didn't even attempt Soarin' this go around, because I knew the crowds at Epcot would all be there. And sure enough, it never had below a 50 minute wait time. :confused3
The start of the race was really stressful, but luckily everything else went smoothly, so I had an overall positive experience.

Sorry to hear about the possible trip plans falling through, hopefully you and your mom can get a mother/daughter trip in :goodvibes

I kept saying to myself on the trip, "I think we've spent too much...No, we don't really need another pin." And after I got back home and added up our cost, I couldn't believe we'd managed that. :scared1:

It has been such a busy week for me! I have finally bought everything I need for wedding, so now I just have to sit around and wait for the day! :woohoo:
Yesterday, my mother and I went out shopping, which always put her in a happy mood, and I discussed with her the possibility of joining DF and I in the Expedition Everest Challenge next year. And she said that as long as she could walk it, she'd love to participate. So, as of right now, I have a trip in the works for next May/June. DF has been put in charge of checking the runDisney sight every few weeks to see when next year's dates are. And even though we don't know them yet, at least I have two people confirming that I'm going again. :cutie:

Now, on to my TR.

May 8th Lunch:

DF and I arrived for our 11:40 ADR about five minutes ahead of time. Last time we ate here, we had to run to make it to our reservation on time, so I wanted to have a more relaxed arrival this go around.
Dsc04522.jpg

We sat in the lobby for a few minutes. This time, I made sure DF didn't run off, because I did not want a repeat of last December.

While DF was in the middle of taking some photographs of an old pay phone with a Hollywood phone book (I love all the tiny details WDW provides) a CM came and took us down a hall to the right of the entrance kiosk.
Dsc04526.jpg

Dsc04525.jpg

We were led to a car in the back of the theater on the left hand side. DF and I were pretty content with our car, because it was on the exact opposite side of our last visit.

Amusingly enough, they put us in the last row of a car again, this time with a family of five in front of us.
Dsc04527.jpg

As soon as we were seated, a waiter came over to take our drink orders. A few weeks earlier, I had read somewhere on the DISboards that any kind of specialty drinks were not covered under the dining plan. DF and I both love Sci Fi's milkshakes, so we had decided to use a snack credit and purchase one.

However, I figured I'd ask the waiter, just to be sure. And as luck would have it, he assured me that milkshakes could, in fact, be ordered as a drink.

I still don't think that was all together correct, but I wasn't about to look a gift horse in the mouth. DF and I immediately ordered two vanilla milkshakes. They were thick and creamy and really rich-just how I remembered them! And, they didn't use any extra credits! That alone made them extraordinary.
Dsc04529.jpg

When the waiter dropped off our beverages, he asked to take our order.
We both went with the Angus Chuck Burger, only I asked for no mushrooms and to have Chedder cheese.

DF, my wonderfully complex picky eater, ordered his with only Swiss and lettuce.

The waiter paused writing on his notepad when DF requested that and looked at him quizzically. "So, you just want lettuce and cheese. No buns?"

I sat there for a few beats, going, Huh? When finally it hit me what he said.

I laughed out loud pretty hard.

"Actually, I think that'd be pretty funny. Just throw a slab of meat on the plate and toss a piece of cheese and a strip of lettuce up top, and he'd be good to go."

DF rolled his eyes at me and the waiter, then let out his own laugh.

"All right, I'd like two buns, a burger, cooked medium, some lettuce, and some Swiss cheese...and some mayo and ketchup."

The waiter put his notepad away, "That sounds better."

The two of us got a good laugh in once the waiter went to put our order in. It was starting to seem like the best restaurant for us to get good interactions with the CMs was Sci Fi. Last time we went, our waitress kept up a pretty good conversation, and this time, we managed to land someone who was good with improv jokes.

While we waited, DF and I took some photos of the place and watched the movie trailers.
Dsc04540.jpg

DF found a Hidden Mickey on the step into the car, which he found pretty cool.

Dsc04534.jpg

Our food came out fairly quickly, and it looked delicious!
Dsc04541.jpg

Besides a granola bar in the resort room, DF and I had not ate anything since the end of the race.
To say we were hungry would be an understatement.

Those burgers didn't stand a chance! :rotfl:

Although I didn't polish mine off as quickly as I did with the one in December, it was pretty close.

Before we knew it, our waiter had returned to take our dessert orders.
And, just like with our drinks and our entrees, DF and I chose the same thing.

Peanut Butter and Chocolate Cake.

Mmmmmm

Dsc04542.jpg

Unfortunately, between the burger and the milkshake, I was already stuffed by the time the cake came out. I ended up eating a lot of the ice cream and the Reese's Pieces, but not too much of the cake itself.

Part of my problem (in addition to being full) was that the chocolate was really rich. I consider myself to a be a chocolate fan, but I can only take it in small doses. That was like a Hershey overload.

DF managed to eat about half of his cake. However, peanut butter is one of his favorite food items, so this dessert was designed for him.

Shortly thereafter, we paid for our meal, figured out the tip, and left.

It's always a little strange walking from Sci Fi out into the park. We spent almost an hour in a dark room, surrounded by low lights and a dim movie screen. We were in there so long that we had forgotten it was the middle of the day.

So to walk out into bright sunlight and hot weather was a little disorienting. I had to stand by the restaurant for a minute and get my bearings straight.

While I was getting re-acclimated to the daylight, DF checked his phone and saw that it was almost one o'clock. He asked me if I wanted to stay a little longer, but I said no.
I had a bit of a stomachache from all the food and it was getting hot out.

Plus, the crowds had begun to filter out from TSM and into the rest of the park. I figured it was time to take a nap and relax by the pool for a bit.
