Floridians in Wilma's Path - Check In!

Still very windy in Tampa, but I can see blue skies! :cool1:

Colder than heck to me though, with all that wind---I admit I'm a wuss. DH is insisting we keep the office window open to cool the room off, since it gets really warm due to the computers. He's happy; I'm sitting here in sweats. :cold:

oh my goodness is it cold out there.

Went out for a drive around. Still very windy--weather forecasters says that it is going to be that way b/c of the cold front.

My silliest sighting--someeones trampoline flipped over balancing on their privacy fence.

And the worst damage was to a nonessential structure. A pier near one of the causeways. Very odd as this same pier survived Frances and Jeanne just fine. A section is wiped out and all of the lumber lines the banks of the causeway now.

Waves are kicking--not quite safe for surfing...but I'm sure the surfers will be out tomorrow a.m.

My DH took our trampoline down yesterday. He wasn't very happy taking it all apart. I am thinking the kids will be in college before he even considers putting it back up!

I hauled out of town (Cape Coral, Lee County) yesterday morning & headed up to my mom & sister's in Palm Coast. From what I have heard thru firends, we didn't get any major damage or the storm surge since the storm came in below us. We have many down power lines & trees. Street lights are out & some street flooding. Some have electric & some don't. They announce at around 2ish today that there was no school tomorrow. I am thankful for that. I didn't want to have to drive thru the state during the dark & not know what I was driving into. Thank goodness it is over... we have what 4 or 5 more weeks of this season left. :umbrella:

Nothing too severe in Tampa - lost power for about an hour overnight, and some mess from trees, mainly leaves and small branches. But my brother in Cooper City reports that no power, tree through neighbor's roof, all roads impassable nearby due to flooding and/or downed trees or lines

I just heard from my parents who are in Hollywood, FL visting my sister and BIL and their new baby. It was my parents' first hurricane and my dad said "It was something I don't care to do again." They rode it out nearby in the larger home of my sister's inlaws on the intercostal. My Dad said as the storm passed he watched the boom of a tall "T" shaped construction crane (complete with counterweight) rotate about once every 20 seconds.

My sister lives in a gated community and they lost some roof tiles and have a lot of landscape damage. Their community has no power. They said the streets are drivable with some dodging of debris required.

Reporting in from Auburndale. Not much going on here. The sun is out and it's still fairly breezy but nothing like what we had earlier.

I haven't been out but there's no damage around my house. We had electricity the whole time with only a few minor flickers last night and again around 7 this morning.

This reminded me of a strong N'oreaster only with those #&*@!!! tornado warnings. I am loving the cool air that's out there now and have every window in the house open.

My lanai got wet because I had one of the windows set the wrong way. It allowed the rain that was pounding against the back of the house to get in. It will take a few days for the rug to dry out.

All and all not too bad here. My best wishes go out to those of you further south.

Can anyone provide me with a Siesta Key update or suggest how I can find a link on the internet?
Thank you
I can tell you that in general, our area is just fine. Some downed tree limbs, some localized flooding, nothing major at all around here that I'm aware of. If I hear anything specific about the Key on the news I'll post but I haven't heard anything much.

I tried calling my friends in Key West. The home phone dumped directly inot VM. I got through on his cell, and could hear him, but he couldn't hear me. I've tried to call back and get right into VM. I know after Frances here last year I had similar problems with me cell.

Any word on Jensen Beach? Someone last night checked in from there so I wondered how they fared. My DH's hotel room is in Jensen Beach and he has to return there either tonight or tomorrow morning, just wanted to know how the roads are and what not. The hotel phone doesn't seem to be working.

Finally got through to our friends in Key West. LOTS of flooding, it's really bad. They have no power or potable water. This is their biggest week of the year financially, and it looks like it's going to be a wash out. :(

Boy did we have fun today at work...lol! Our windows were bowing in and out, the south end of the road I'm on collapsed in, maybe about 15 feet deep, yikes! Went to the beach on the way home, the waves were coming up over Eau Gallie Causeway, crazy... lots of boats chrashed up on the shoulder.

You see South Miami Heights. Thats where I am. There is a lot of tree damage. Electrical posts down. No electricity. I am on battery posting. Stop signs gone. Shingles everywhere. My neighbors's fences are down. We are safe with minimal damage to our house. Only need to get the electricity back and who knows how long that will take.
Thank God for camping stoves.

Thanks so much for the update. I have checked the local paper as well and the damage looks minimal. Thanking you in advance for letting me know if there is any more info. on Siesta Key.

Does anyone know if/how I can find out if there is damage to a particular condo complex on Siesta Key?
Thanks

Checking in from Sebastian.

We had water come in under the front door and damage the carpet in the living room and bedroom. Oh well, we were going to get new floors anyway.

Some minor roof damage.

No power for 4 hours but it is back on now. The winds were amazing. Much stronger than I thought they would be.

I hope everyone is safe.

Just trying to get word on Naples yet, anyone? I think I saw my folk's neighbor in one film clip, she was wearing a baseball hat, hauling stuff out from cleaning up debris.

Orlando just got tropical storm force winds and a lot of rain this morning. DD and I laned at MCO at 6am. It was a very rough landing. We almost didn't get to land. They thought they had a window, but the weather changed on them very quickly. I'd rather not make a landing like that ever again. I got to drive home from the airport in blinding rain and very strong winds. Not fun!

I'm interested in Jensen Beach also...

I'm surprised that the whole state has been declared. Around here you would never know that anything happened.

I am very thankful that we missed the worst of this and my thoughts go out to those who are dealing with this today and for the days to come. :(
