Floridians in Wilma's Path - Check In!

Checking in from South Vero Beach

Our power never went out but we lost cable TV and internet so didn't go online very much. No damage at all. As wdw4us2 said, everything that could fall down did it last year! Some services are still limited because terminals or offices are further south and closed. At least this time, for those without power, the temperatures were lower and lack of air conditioning was easier to handle.

ETA: Cable came back Sunday AM about 10:30. DH has been glued to news channels ever since. We felt so out of touch.

We thought that this storm was less severe than Frances and Jeanne but probably because we were hit by the eyes last year and only the fringes this year.

FINALLY able to get online at work! We are in Boca Raton and still do not have power (7 days and counting). Our roof was damaged and an oak tree fell on three yards, knocking down fences and totaling our screened in porch. We are all fine. My parents finally took the kids up to Orlando to get away from the mess. THey are at the Shades of Green having a great time, thankfully. I am back to work, tarping my roof and praying for power. This one was a really bad one. Lots of damage and suffering, especially the elderly. I have been handing out ice and food for days. Many are still suffering alone. Hope all is well, don't have time to read everyone's posts. Hang in there!

Glad you finally got your power back. I can't believe how long it was out. I'm in Stuart and we only lost power from 11am to 5pm on the day Wilma came through.

I know! I live on the street that time forgot though LOL It was like this for the hurricanes last year too!

DH and I work at Bonefish Grill and we had power there the next day!

Checking in too. We still dont have power. We are on generator and not sure when we will get power back. The electrician was supposed to come out today to check the wires in the stack to make sure if they turn our power back on that we wont have a fire or something. I havent heard from him so I dont know yet if he made it out here. I am so sick of living like Daniel Boon with inside plumbing UGH! They say we had winds here of 125 mph and we took the eye wall. we never got the eye, the eyewall just kept churning over us. They also said our area was hit with twin tornadoes and thats why the damage is so bad here. One neat thing is that I got to meet President Bush and Gov Jeb Bush when they came to our church in Pompano Beach. We were all shocked as we had no idea he was coming there. I actually got to talk to both of them and didnt let either of them off the hook very easily LOL!!!

I hear you! was very very over it! no laundry, no baths, no cooking, no refigeration.... ugh.

we also never got an eye - just contant wind.... the second half was WAY worse than the first

That stinks! The eye did go over us and I agree about the second half being much worse than the first. We stepped outside when the eye was going over us, most of the neighbors came to check out our trees. By then, we already had damage, but after the second half went through... :earseek: :earseek:

Now all of our trees are gone... :guilty: :guilty: :guilty: I miss them and their shade. :guilty: Driving is still bad with most traffic lights not working, but our city has responded well. The city has installed battery and solar panel operated traffic lights at some intersections, which definitely help. I was in Coconut Creek today and there was only one traffic light that was manned by volunteers. The rest were treated as 4-way stop signs.

I don't want to go through that again. On the "positive" side, we won't have to worry about trees anymore. :guilty: :guilty:

LEeyore~ I hope you get power real soon. :goodvibes

I have to agree with you the second half of the storm was much worse than the front half. I was never so scared in my life. The hatch to our crawl space in the ceiling was rasing up, spinning, and dropping back down. I swore the roof was gonna go. It seemed to take forever for it to pass too. They said it was going to be a fast moving storm and it really wasnt. I dont think I will ever believe the forcasters again after this. Im gonna prep next year like this will happen again. No more believing the forcasters that its going be be a lot lesser storm then finding out differently way too late in the game. I have learned a lot from this in how to prep. I also know my house will withstand a high cat 3 storm which we werent sure it would do even though it is an older home and built like a fortress. Thats when they built homes to withstand this type of thing.....not like they are building them now.

Is anyone else having weird dreams since the storm? I know I have and dh said that he was also. I know my youngest has had several bad dreams since the storm.

The other silver lining is that we wont get much of an electric bill this month either ROFL!!!! LOL trying to find humor in this situation.

ha! I got my usual bill - "estimated" since they couldn't read the meter

scary stuff with your attic! roofs do come off in hurricanes!

our shutters came off one of our windows and dh tried to open the door to grap them  and the attic door lifted up... scary :earseek:

We lost two of our shutters that made it through the hurricane when we got a storm a couple of days after the hurricane with 60 to 70 MPH winds. We had lifted them up and the wind got hold and ripped them off putting a hole in one the size of someones head!!

Yeah I got an estimated water bill. Im quite sure they werent out here to read the meter on the 24th LOL!!!

WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! WEVE GOT POWER!!!! Finally after 14 days!!!! Apparently the stack getting cracked didnt harm the wires. Im still going to have the electrician look at it though just to be on the safe side.

Im just so excited to be living like a real person again!!! AND no more generator noise in the neighborhood!!! Most of our neighbors kept theirs on 24/7.
