Florida Mall from dtd?

No car. Can we get a bus? Is is best to go by Mears?

The 111 bus used to go from Disney direct to Florida Mall, but it now only goes from Sea World because Lynx wanted Disney to pay towards the bus service going past Sea World and onto Disney and Disney did not want to pay. Now, the best bus route would be to get a 50 to near Sea World and then get the 111 from there.

Yes as above, 50 from DTD to Seaworld and 111 to Florida Mall
You can also get to both Premium Outlets using the 50 to seaworld then the 8. You have to cross the road for Premium outlets at Vineland and stay on the same side for Premium Outlets Int'l drive.

Either way for all trips you will need to ask for a transfer ticket when you get on the 50 at DTD.

The bus is great, $2 each way (ask for a free transfer when you get on and then use this to ride the second bus for free). The 50 goes all the way to the TTC if that's more convenient.

There are also cabs available at Sea World if you can't face the entire trip home on the bus

So glad I found this thread as I was trying to figure out if renting a car for the day was more feasible than taking a taxi. Never thought of the bus. Any idea how long takes to get to the Florida mall?

depends if you have to wait a long time for 111. If I remember correctly it only runs twice every hour some days (check the schedules)

the trip one way can take roughly 1 hour if all goes well, but I would allow 90 minutes to be on the safe side (that's one way)
Now that 111 has been discontinued between DTD and Seaworld, the transfert time between 50 and 111 can range between 20 minutes to almost an hour (no covered bus stop, no shade)

Also consider that going to Florida Mall might involve some heavy shopping.
Going to Florida Mall on the bus is a cool thing to do. Coming back from Florida Mall with a ton of shopping bags can be a real pain.
Depending on how much of a compulsive shopper you are, you might want to consider taking a cab back from the stores.

That's my issue! I can rent a car for the day for what it would cost to take taxis.

yes, this adds at least half an hour to the journey

If you went today, the fare would be $45 + tip (so no less than $50 or $55) from Florida Mall to Coronado Springs Resort.

the benefit of a taxi is that you are dropped off directly at your resort with all of those shopping bags
If you go back with the Lynx, you still have to take a disney bus back to your resort. (unless you're at a monorail resort)

Just a thought about renting a car for the day - you could then use it to visit the Premium Outlets at either end of I-Drive (or other malls/outlets in the area).

So, I can leave breakfast at the poly, get the monorail to the TTC, get the 50 to DTD, then Seaworld, transfer to the 111 to the Florida Mall, the to return to the Outlets, get the 111, get another transfer for the 50 (will it matter if I don't get the bus for a few hours?). Or do I get another bus from seaworld to the outlets or can you walk from seaworld?

sort of yes...the 111 isn't down the same road as the 50 (Seaharbour Drive) it goes down Westwood Blvd which runs adjacent to it. Basically you get off the 50 at the first stop down Seaharbour Drive then cross the road and take the first left down Academic Drive to Westwood Blvd (honestly its not far), although it can feel it if you have a load of bags on the way back

If you are going with VH's then you can buy a transfer from them with Mears.

You won't be able to walk from SeaWorld to the outlets, you need to get the 50 to SeaWorld and catch another bus to either of the outlets (no. 8).

a transfert ticket is supposed to be used on a "continuous" route. Like in "just the time for the other bus to arrive", not like in "just the time for me to do some shopping" (sorry can't put it in a better way)

a transfert ticket is valid for 90 minutes.

for a trip to the mall or the outlets, if you intend on shopping a lot, I would strongly consider a bus to get there and a taxi to come back

We did the trip to Florida Mall and the Outlets last year(on two separate days), we swore we'd get a car next time.

It was May, it was hot and we ended up waiting 45 Minutes for a bus at the mall because one of them just didn't come. Then had to carry all of our shopping through Downtown Disney...

We didn't mind it on our last trip because we had lots of extra time and actually quite enjoyed the bus rides to Target, Walmart or the mall, but next time we might travel with a small baby, so we'd prefer having a car

That bus caper sounds like an horrendous way to spend a holiday to me!

The bus is fine on the way out but maybe a bit of a pain on the way back if you have a lot of shopping. Also we are just a couple and it might not be worth the hassle with swapping buses etc if you have young ones and pushchairs etc..But it really is very easy and very cheap and not at all horrendous in anyway.

Just thinking even about potential wait times made me go ahead and rent a car for the day. This way I don't have to mess around with waiting for busses, getting transfers etc., etc., etc., I can have the rental company pick me up, go directly to the mall, head back to the outlets, on our own times, and all for about $40, which is probably less than a cab! Thanks everyone for your responses!
