Florida has gators and California has raccoons

That may be true, but I'm not stickin' around to test the theory! LOL

I've actually put that knowledge to practical use. I stuck around to take pictures of a black bear with cubs. My wife thought I had a death wish. I didn't crowd it out and I didn't approach it any further once I realized it was there.

I knew a fishing guide who said "black bears are pansies". For the most part, they're more scared of people than we are of them.

I would have never guessed in a million years that there would be racoons in Disneyland! Crazy! The competition must be fierce between them and the cats.

There are definitely raccoons in California Adventure. My kids and I were waiting in line for the Radiator Springs ride in July 2017. It was mid-morning. From our right a very fat raccoon shot out and ran through the line, stepping on the sandal-clad foot of my daughter. It scratched her foot and drew blood. It's a long story, but she had to get the ENTIRE RABIES shot series because of the exposure.

Well that would definitely ruin the Disney magic!

I’ve seen a raccoon at white water snacks. He was on the other side of the fence from the outdoor dining and pretty aggressive. He was trying to get food. A cast member chased him off. It was during the day too. Which I thought was odd. I’ve only ever seen them at night near my house.

Raccoons are the worst. Adorable and smart and just vicious. We live in Oregon and have huge problems with them with our chickens-they will slaughter them cruelly (pull a limb off through the fence-fun stuff like that).

Same here... only at night by where we live. I don't think I have ever seen a raccoon in the daytime! Very strange.

I think one of the top rules for raccoons and other wild animals is to not feed them. They get used to human + food = eat, and can kind of learn to lose their fear of humans. If that happens, Disney is sure to get rid of them since they don't want to encourage wild animals to come up to people.

That would be cool to see them. We get them a lot on my porch. Haven't heard of foxes on site, though.

They are so very cute and adorable for sure! But oh my goodness... that sounds absolutely terrifying. Poor chickens :(

In CA most of the storm drain systems are separate from the sewer systems, creating a nice highway for critters. Raccoons love the storm drains for getting around. I noticed that some drains at in CA were marked as directly draining to the ocean (think DL is a closed system). Also, as we keep protecting/restoring habitat, we should expect the critter pop to increase :)

That is so awful! Im so sorry that happened! What an unfortunate freak thing to happen especially while on vacay.
I think raccoons are so darn cute but I would skittle my pants if I saw one up close in the parks. I'll definitely be keeping a look out for critters on our next trip in June!

We live 2-3 miles from DLR and have possums, squirrels, and once in a while a raccoon family will drop by.
