i am wearing a dress to V&A (our first time there, of course) this week but I was wondering if it would be ok to wear 'dressy' flipflops with it. Opinions?

I wouldn't, even "dressy" ones. I don't think they are appropriate for V & A

I don't think they are forbidden, but I think I'd up it to at least sandals.

Noted on the Disney Site:

Gentleman are asked to wear a dinner jacket with dress pants and shoes. (Ties are optional.) Ladies are requested to wear a cocktail dress, dressy pantsuit, skirt/blouse or nice dress. The following are not allowed: jeans, shorts, capris, flip-flops, sandals or sneakers

I personally have never seen dressy enough flip flops for the atmosphere of V&A.

Under no circumstances would I even consider wearing thong shoes of any kind to V&A. Any other restaurant at WDW I would do it.

Another no. I've dined at V&A many times and I've never seen anything as casual as a thong type of shoe, even dressy ones.

Flipflops @ V&A?

1) That would be pretty tacky.
2) I have never heard of formal flip-flops.
3) And, V&A is pretty formal dining.

NOTE: Of course, if the uncouth Northwestern Women's Lacrosse team
could wear flip flops to the White House when meeting with the President,
I guess manners have gone out of the window.

I found some! You can get wedding flips flops - who knew! :lmao:

Even with all the glitter/beads/gems I'd still say they're flip flops.

Seems like the Disney "not allowed" policy does prohibit flip-flops and sandals.

And not that this is relevant to anything, but I did see a gentleman at V&A some years back in sneakers-- with a coat and a tie!!!

Obviously no one bothered to look at his feet when he arrived----

I do know that sometimes people have to wear sneakers or a similar shoe even with dress clothes because of a health related condition. Sometimes we don't know what is going on in other people's lives. Just a thought:)

It depends on how dressy they are IMO.

To be safe, I probably wouldn't.

first, i don't appreciate being called 'tacky'. Disney on the whole is pretty low-key and I haven't ever been to V&A...hence the question.

Thank you to the rest of you for the information.

Flat sandals would be okay as long as they are dressy, if you don't like wearing heels. A nice pair of dressy flats would also be just fine :thumbsup2

As someone who's been there on the having to wear sneakers for a health issue thing, agreed. :thumbsup2

Regarding the flip flops, I often wear flip flops with dresses but wouldn't to V&A.

Enjoy your dinner!

the dinner was wonderful and, yes, i agree...flip flops wouldn't have done. Thanks for the advice.

However, I, too, am at the age where heels really aren't an option anymore. So flats is the 'new black' in my book. :P

I have been to V&A several times and me, my hubby, and my dad have the minimum dress code down to a science. I have worn dressy flip flops before, they were black with rhinestones along the straps and a very slight heel. (I wouldn't wear the foam and plastic flip flops like the ones from Old Navy though). I normally wear basic black sandals, and I have never had anything said to me. The guys really stretch the limits...they wear only a dress shirt (sometimes long sleeve sometimes short sleeve) and use the jackets provided by the restaurant. Now here is the catch...once you are at your seat you may remove your jacket, you just have to put it on when going to the restroom or moving around the restaurant. So those jackets are worn for only a few minutes while we are there. My father has worn navy blue slippers there before and my hubby has worn all black tennis shoes. We enjoy fine dining, but we're on vacation so why be uncomfortable if we don't have to. We have never been told that our attire was unacceptable.
