Flip camera for still pics?

Dd dropped and broke my small digital camera. GRRR! I want another small one that I can easily stick in a purse or pocket. I'd seen the Flip cameras and heard that they were good for video. It says that you can also use software to get still pictures off of the video. Has anyone done this? Is it easy to do and how do they look? Was just thinking it would be nice to have a small video and still camera, but not sure if it would be worth the hassel of having to go through and find stills?

Thanks for any advice! If anyone has any suggestions of a good, small point and shoot, I'd also like to hear that. Looking for under $100.

I took the following picture with my flip:

The software is very easy to use - you basically stop the video where you want and you can choose any frame. I also made my christmas card:

The color on that one isn't exactly what I wanted, but I don't think it's the video's fault - it was just the environment that I shot in.

I still use a digital still for regular pictures, but it's nice to know that if I can only choose one camera at a time, I can go with the flip and I can get still shots from it later.

You can get a real decent point and shoot for under $100 these days. I tend to not like Kodak digitals very much, but that is just my opinion. You can find quite a few Kodaks for under $100.

You can get still frames from most video cameras but do be aware:

1. The software that comes with the camera may or may not be easy to use when trying to extract a single frame,

2. The resolution ranges from about a half megapixel to two megapixels (the latter is the best HDTV). Perfectly good for web pictures but may be somewhat grainy in a 4x6 or 4x5 snapshot.

3. Single frames from video sequences with panning or moving subjects are likely to have motion blur.

And, specifically with the Flip, you cannot swap memory cards and you cannot offload the video to free up the camera for more footage without having your laptop with you.
