Flight Snacks

We are flying across country for our trip to Disneyworld later this year. We have a very early flight so breakfast will have to happen on the plane. Any tips or ideas of snacks or anything that I shouldn't take on flight?

I know I can't pack an ice pack so it needs to be something that won't go bad. I was thinking of making some baked oatmeal muffins for the first flight and bringing snacks but our second flight I will need more lunch type stuff. We only have about an hour in between flights and with potty breaks and going from one terminal to the next I don't want to plan on getting something there and then running out of time.

Thank you!

I would plan on grabbing a sandwich at a vendor to take on your second flight. An hour is a lot of time to kill. But just in case your first flight is delayed and time gets crunched, I would pack meal bars to hold you over until you land.

I always pack z bars and Luna bars for us for the plane and for a quick in room breakfast. Those applesauce squeeze packets travel very well too.

Do you have an insulated lunch bag. Cut up and freeze fruit in a ziplock, it can act as you ice pack. Cheese & crackers, veggies, muffins, cold pizza.
Wouldn't any liquids in this have to be less than 3 oz and the bag only be of 1 quart capacity.

I freeze grapes as our ice pack - never had a problem.
I also freeze cheese sticks as the ice pack for sandwiches, then the cheese sticks can be eaten
I pack crackers and cut up cheese and/or lunch meat or the tuna packs that can be opened
I also pack muffins, cereal bars, pop tarts, chips. I put them in a plastic shoe box a the bottom of my backpack so they don't get crushed.
We buy water in the airport.

I stop by our local bagel place the day before and get unsliced bagels with little things of cream cheese. Pop the cream cheese in the fridge until the next morning and then slice and toast the bagels. Pop them back into their individual bags from the bagel place with the throwaway knives, paper napkins, and cream cheese and those go into the carryons. We don't go to the local place often so it's a real treat for the kids and they love it. Also motivation to get to the airport in the morning because once on the plane, they can eat their bagels. In addition, I usually pack a little insulated lunch box for each kid (and then some for us) with:
* apple or apple slices
* sometimes grapes or, depending on the season, plums, pluots, peaches, nectarines (DD is a big stone fruit fan)
* granola bars, power bars, kind bars
* crackers, chips
* nuts, trail mix, dried fruit
* fruit leather
* sometimes sandwiches or cheese
* bags of dry cereal like Cheerios or Crispix

And yes, we inevitably arrive still having a plethora of snacks. :) I usually put some ice in a Ziploc freezer bag in each, dispose of the ice before security, and then grab some more after security from one of the fast food places or the red carpet lounge if DH is with us.

My daughter likes those Rev Wraps to eat on the plane. She'll eat them for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Some Pringles and some fruit make it a filling meal. She also likes Poptarts. I usually bring some muffins or mini crumb cakes or something like that for me if we are flying early enough to want breakfast.

For general snacks, I usually bring Monster Mix (trail mix), and maybe some cookies or candy bars. We don't normally eat like this post reads - travelling is stressful so I throw some treats in. Plus sugar helps you run thru those airports!

We also bring empty refillable water bottles with us and just fill them at a water fountain after we get past security.

Baby carrots, Justin's peanut butter individual packets (~$1 at Whole Foods), Goldfish, pretzels, cheese and crackers (sharp cheddar should last for several hours without cold), apples, hearty muffins (bran, oat & fruit).

I would definitely forego grabbing a sandwich at the airport (generally bad and can cost $12+ a person) in favor of snacking and having a more filling meal when you arrive at Disney!

If you're flying a plane that serves peanuts anyway, my suggestion is always to pack PBJ (PB on both sides of bread and jelly in the middle so it doesn't sog out - in our house, it's actually all natural PB and strawberry fruit preserves as the favorite prep:)) and then all the favorite foods of my kids (with 1 healthy snack and 1-2 unhealthy ones). So, I'll have PBJ, clementines, smartfood popcorn bags, and m&ms for the kids for the plane and I'll have 1 juice box or water for each kid for right before security (so everyone can make it til we get on the plane)...they are happy as clams for the flight - I usually pick up just the adults 1 sandwich which we split (since they tend to be $10-$11) to go along with any snacks and everyone is good.

Mmmmm pop tarts, I like that idea

BTW, something else to consider are go picnic boxes that come with, depending on the box, slices of salami or turkey pepperoni, black bean hummus, crackers, cheese spread, plantain chips, nut mixes, dessert of some kind like a caramel bar, fruit leather, etc. Target has them and they are shelf-stable so no refrigeration.

Personally I'm not a fan, but my guys really like beef jerky on our long cross country flights.
We usually make our own so it's not super expensive like the already made stuff.
