Just heard on ABC news that there are flight restrictions over Disney World and Land. Did I hear correctly? Anyone else hear this?

What better way to hurt Americans and cause them untold anguish than by hurting our CHILDREN??

Okay...

So my question is this:

Will this affect my parasailing outing scheduled for next Thursday? Enquiring minds want to know!

(Just trying to bring some levity to the DIS.)

Yes, I know this is serious stuff, and I am not making light of it. (Trust me, I am NOT making light of it.) However, we have to live our lives the best we can.

And don't forget the men and women in the armed services fighting for the right for me to make a joke on this board.

Kungaloosh!

You can't say that appropriate precautions aren't being taken to try and ensure our saftey.

Redbeard - good luck with the parasailing.

Thanks, twinmomto3boys... I appreciate the well wishes.

I'm just wondering how the headlines are going to read the next day...

If I recall I could have sworn that even way prior to 9/11 there were flight restrictions over WDW. Does anyone else recall this?

I think it was major league stupid for the government to single out WDW this way. Protect us, yes, but don't blab your plans to the enemy.

Assuming any terrorists DID have plans to attack WDW from the air, now they can just shift their target thanks to our government giving them the tip off.

In the meantime, the government has dealt a savage economic blow to WDW by, in effect, saying "Disney's a target. Stay clear!"

Eisner said publically that the last Orange Alert decreased attendance, cost WDW a ton of money, and forced layoffs. And that was a general, overall, nationwide alert. This time, they've made it very specific to WDW. It's only reasonable to expect the effect will be even greater this time around.

It seems Saddam doesn't have to lift a finger to damage our economy, Tom Ridge will do it for him.

Now is the time for those of us who love WDW to visit the parks and show our support! See you there.

I agree with this completely...these were my exact thoughts....they've totally singled it out and in my opinion made it easier to be a target. That's the media for you

I usually don't get involved in many posts, especially ones like this, but I feel I need to put in my two cents..., As someone who was in the military for 8 years, I can honestly tell you the warnings that are issued by our government are not going to help the terrorists pick a target easier. The have their targets picked out, and if they can't hit what they have planned as long as they cause panic and terror or hit something they did their job.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but the government warnings are just that.., warnings. Unfortunately, we are not at a point in time where we can pinpoint specific threats, therefore we must keep all U.S. citizens informed, and if that means issuing a warning for Disney and the surrounding area than so be it.

While the recent warnings may have an economic effect on Disney, they will have a larger economic impact everywhere the U.S. has interests, and hopefully as a nation we can begin to continue to win the war on terror so that our children and our children's children will not have to worry about terror threats.

God Bless our Men & Women fighting for us and the U.S.A.!

We don't need the government to tell us that WDW is a potential target. Common sense tells us this! It's not like the terrorists didn't know about WDW but now that the gov made this announcement they are "going to look into it". WDW is a symbol of America - there is no denying it. Thus it is a target. In fact, after 9-11, it was determined that WDW was on the list of potential targets.
The announcement made by the gov, if anything, should ease fears. The government is taking steps to protect WDW. That is a good thing.
I hope I don't offend anybody, but there is more to this war than how it is going to affect cutbacks and the level of service at WDW. Yes Disney is going to suffer - but they are not alone. The entire travel industry is going to suffer from this - regardless of what warnings we are given.
This whole state of affairs is just sad. I can't believe what the world is becoming. I support the President - something had to be done about So Damned Insane. But I fear the retributions that we are likely to suffer for many years to come. Like I said, it is just sad.

God Bless our troops!

I disagree Kelly. I think WDW/DL parks are so famous around the world they are considered in the same class as other national treasures and monuments, i.e. very high profile. If the Yankees were playing @ Yankees Stadium they'd do the same thing.
I, for one, would rather know they are taking precautions and it makes me feel better about going.

Anyway, I just got your book the other day and really enjoyed it. Nice work :)

I believe there are probably other "no-fly zones" that were listed was it just abc that mentioned them or did CBS and NBC state them. I believe that because Disney owns ABC they were mentioned specificly.

I saw the specific reports about the no fly zones over WDW and DL on Fox News, MSNBC and my local news so I think it got full coverage not just ABC. Also one of them went into depth saying that during raids in Afghanistan al queda was found to have maps, photos and lots of info on WDW and DL which is why the gov. has singled them out vs other vacation destinations.

Here's a link to a CNN report posted on the UK forums.

Now is the time for those of us who love WDW to visit the parks and show our support! See you there.
You bet, Kelly. We'll be there in May come hell or high water - just as we were in December 2001 following the September 11 attacks.
