If I am checking luggage can I still check in online from home or do I have to wait until I get to the airport? If I can do it from home how do the airport people know I paid for my luggage or do I have to pay at the airport? Help, I am so lost with all of this.

BTW, we are flying Alaska Air and although there are 2 of us flying we are only checking one bag

I have never flown Alaska Air but if they are the same or similar to the airlines I have flown it should work something like this. Check in at home, tell them how many bags you are checking and pay on the airline website by credit card when you get to the airport, some airlines will have lines for baggage only and will print the baggage tag and take your bag or you can use curbiside check in when you get there if it available and they will take your bag. The computer will say you already paid for the bag.

Unless Alaska is different from the other 3 airlines I have flown it should work something like that.

I've never used Alaska air, but, with the airlines I use, I can check in on-line, pay for my bags using a credit card, and print my boarding passes in advance. I am not sure that it really saves that much time, because, at the airport, you still need to get your bags tagged at the counter. If you are going to WDW, and staying at a Disney resort, you can check your bags in the lobby of your hotel. At the airport counter, the representative has access to whether you have already paid your fee. At Disney, you need to have either a printed receipt (which usually, you can't do at the resort), or bring your computer or ipad or smartphone to the check in counter in the lobby as proof that you paid the bag fees. Checking bags in the lobby at the hotel is a real time saver for us, because, they also print boarding passes. So, we check our bags in the lobby the day we check out, get our boarding passes, and then enjoy our last day at WDW, unencumbered by luggage.

Thank you, you have all set my mind to easy about checking baggage. Now to complicate things....
I will be arriving to the airport from home with the bag and DH will be arriving from work, I will most likely arrive at the airport 30 minutes before Dh. If we check in on line from home, can I arrive at the airport and check in the bag with out DH or do we both need to be there since we are on the same reservation?

If you only have one bag, and you pay the fee on your reservation, then, you can check the bag without him being there.
