Flight changes?

I have my ressies made for Delta flight from Cols-MCO in August. They changed the flights...I didn't realize it till I checked my itinerary online. I dont like the flights theyve scheduled me on...we arrive too late. They are non-refundable tix...my question is...since they changed them, will they let me opt for a different flight than the one they assigned...without a penalty charge? Want to know my options BEFORE I call. In an instance like this...will they allow you to COMPLETELY cancel and rebook either another Delta flight or with another airline?

I suspect this may have something to do with America West pulling out of CMH. I opted not to use use my frequent flyer miles when I booked the flight so I could take an earlier flight. Now they have me flying at mid-day. I'm wondering if I could cancel all 3 tix...take one as a frequent flyer seat and rebook the other 3 on the same flight.

Yes, since your flight times are significantly different, you can call and change your flights without paying the change fee.

Check the delta.com site first to (1) see if there exist other flights to your liking and (2) (at best a rough idea using seat selection button) see that they are not sold out. You want to be able to argue that they need to give you replacement flights based on any available seats, not seats in the cheap allotment.

If there are no suitable available flighst they ought to give you a full refund.

If you cancel and then try to rebook as award tickets, that might not work if the award ticket allotment is exhausted.
