well...i was alittle worried about flying airtran after reading some of the posts here but after finding airfare for $302 round trip for my wife and i, well, i couldn't say no....
so....
we flew from philadelphia to orlando...departed philadelphia on wednesday, august 1st on an evening flight...i was alittle disappointed with the counter checkin people in philadelphia...they were a bit slow and seemed to want to only talk amoung themselves and did not appear to be in a hurry to help us customers standing in line....i did notice that they offered a "business class upgrade" for $25 per person and i took advantage of that...
we actually got out of philadelphia about 15 minutes late...this was due to the aircraft not arriving from the previous flight arriving on time...
business class upgrade got us real nice seats, comfortable with lots of leg room and i think that it was well worth the money....
although the flight out of philadelphia was late, we arrived into orlando on time...we receive our bags quickly and they did not lose anything....
on the way from orlando to philadelphia, we arrived at the airport about 2 hours early...counter service in orlando is much better then in philadelphia...very nice people that appeared to want to help their customers...took advantage of the business class upgrade and went to our gate to wait for our flight...our flight out was at about 2:15pm and was ontime...we arrived into philaelphia only to find that all of airtran's gates (all two of them...) were tied up due to barry effecting weather to the south...we had to wait on a taxiway for about 10 minutes before getting to the gate....again, we received our luggage without problem and set about on our way home....
if flying airtran out of phila, please be aware that:
1) they do offer $25 business class upgrades...well worth the price in my opinion
2) they are no longer flying out of terminal D...they are now in terminal F...we parked in D thinking that was were they were and ended up walking it down to F
3) you may want to get to the counter alittle early as the people working it when we departed philadelphia were in no hurry to get us checked in....
4) airtran is flying boeing 717's out of philadelphia...these aircraft appear to be well taken care of and appear to be almost new...i know that airtran has taken recent delivery of some number of 717's....

overall, i think that the experience was a good one and the cost can't be beat...i would fly airtran again....

if you have any specific questions, i would be glad to answer them...

have fun...

Thanks for the great information! I'm using AirTran next month and I'm happy to hear your flights were trouble-free. Did you do the long-term parking at the airport? If so, how did that work out?

Thanks!

yep...we parked in the long term garage at terminal d...cost $14.00 a day...no problem with the car or getting out of the garage...they also offer economy parking at about $7.00 a day but you have to take a bus in and out of the airport for it...
if you have any other questions, please let me know...
have fun...
