Do you have one?
What do you think of them?

We're thinking of getting one.

Ooh, ooh, I can help. This is my industry.

How big are you thinking?

High Def or standard Flat screen?

Do you have any preferred manufacturers?

Do you have cable or satellite or nothing now?

not a plasma screen and we love!!! The picture is much better than a regular TV. Plasma is next!:D

We're thinking 53"
High Definition
(dh says all the tv stations will be going to HD in 2 years and if you don't already have it you'll need an adapter) True?
We have cable

We have one and we love it!

I think 2 years is a little ambitious to say all stations will be broadcasting in HD, it is coming, and probably within the next 5-7 years for sure, and you will need an adaptor. We sell a lot of 'HD-Ready' sets, which are conventional TVs, with the ability to add an adaptor box when the mass switchover happens. I mean if you are paying Thousands for a TV, you don't want to be told it is obsolete. ;)

You should also start by going and looking at some. A lot of your bigger stores, Best Buy, Circuit, local specialty retailers, will have a couple of comparable sets next to each other, so that you can compare pics, etc.

A Sony does not look exactly like a Panasonic, does not look exactly like a Mitsubishi, etc.

Thanks for the info Debster. We were looking around at Circuit City today. I can't remember which brand caught DH's eye.
We're still in the beginning stages.
I welcome all info and thoughts on the flat screens!:D
Thanks everyone.:D

We have a 36 inch Flat screen HD TV and we love it.

I want one but Wilgus started hyperventilating the first time we priced one. I suppose I will have to wait just a little longer :)

I wouldn't want to compromise a great picture just for the size of the box. I think you could get a much larger screen for the money in a rear screen projection tv.

Micca, we have a projection screen tv...that's the one we are going to replace. To tell you the truth, I have never liked the picture on it. Maybe we just got a crummy one though. :)

I've been saving up money for the past 2 years to get a flat panel LCD. This year Sharp finally comes out with a 37 inch, and now all I have to do is to wait for the price to drop, and save more. That could take another 2 years. Meanwhile, I will just have to settle with my 15 year old college-aged 13" TV. :)

Debster812, what do you think about LCD vs Plasma? Plasma looks bad to me when it's compared side-by-side. Seems like I'm watching through a screen door or something. Any advice?

With LCD, you sometimes have to deal with the pixelization. With plasma, the environment matters. Distance from the screen, light level in the room, etc. LCD screens are still a relatively new technology, and the manufacturer's are still dealing with how to handle the picture if several of the diodes (pixels) are non-functional. This is a fairly normal occurrence.

If you have any mid-sized specialty retailers near you, you will get a better viewing experience than in a mass market store like BB or CC.

If you want, PM me with your general geographical area, and I can make some suggestions on where you can go and watch in a great setting.
