Flashback from the eighties

Simple Minds "Alive & Kicking"

"What you gonna do when things go wrong?
What you gonna do when it all cracks up?
What you gonna do when the love burns down?
What you gonna do when the flames go up?
Who is gonna come and turn the tide?
What's it gonna take to make a dream survive?
Who's got the touch to calm the storm inside?
Who's gonna save you?
Alive and kicking"

Well, now I seem to be in a Chrissy Hynde state of mind. More songs are in rotation in my brain.

The Wait
Thin Line Between Love and Hate
Talk of the Town
Revolution
Bad Boys Get Spanked
I'll Stand By You
How Do I Miss You

Oh, and this one How Much Did You Get For Your Soul?

/
Men At Work "It's A Mistake"

"Don't think that we don't know
Don't think that we're not trying
Don't think we move too slow
It's no use after crying
Saying

It's a mistake, it's a mistake
It's a mistake, it's a mistake

After the laughter has died away
And all the boys have had their fun
No surface noise now, not much to say
They've got the bad guys on the run

Don't try to say you're sorry
Don't say he drew his gun
They've gone and grabbed old Ronnie
He's not the only one saying

It's a mistake, it's a mistake
It's a mistake, it's a mistake

Tell us commander, what do you think?
COS we know that you love all that power
Is it on then, are we on the brink?
We wish you'd all throw in the towel

We'll not fade out too soon
Not in this finest hour
Whistle your favourite tune
We'll send a card and flower
Saying

It's a mistake, it's a mistake
It's a mistake, it's a mistake"

Oh ... what about Quarterflash?

Harden My Heart

Cryin' on the corner, waitin' in the rain
I swear I'll never, ever wait again
You gave me your word..but words for you are lies

Darlin' in my wildest dreams, I never thought I'd go
But it's time to let you know....oh...

Chorus:
I'm gonna harden my heart
I'm gonna swallow my tears
I'm gonna turn...and...leave you here.....

All of my life I've been waitin' in the rain
I've been waiting for a feeling...that never, ever came
It feels so close, but always disappears....

Darlin', in your wildest dreams, you never had a clue...
But it's time you got the news......oooo....

Repeat Chorus

I'm gonna harden my heart
I'm gonna swallow my tears
I'm gonna harden my heart
I'm gonna swallow my tears
Harden my heart...harden my heart...
swallow my tears
I'm gonna harden my heart....

David Bowie songs from The Labyrinthe!

There's such a sad love deep in your eyes,
A kind of pale jewel open and closed within your eyes.
I'll place the sky within your eyes.

There's such a fooled heart beating so fast,
In search of new dreams,
A love that will last within your heart.
I'll place the moon within your heart.

I'll paint you mornings of gold, I'll spin you Valentine evenings.
Though we're strangers 'til now,
We're choosing the path between the stars.
I'll leave my love between the stars.

As the pain sweeps through,
Makes no sense for you.
Every thrill is gone.
Wasn't too much fun at all,
But I'll be there for you
As the world falls down.

Annnnd, of course...

"Flyyyyyy iiiiiin toooo theeeee DANGER ZONE!!"
"Take my breath awaaaaaaay"
"Wooooah-oh-oh-oh-oh-ooooh, destination unknoooown"
"After chasing sunsets, one of life's simple joys is playing with the boys"
"You never close your eyes anymore when I touch..your liiiips..."

Top Gun. Such a masterpiece of music.

1986 was obviously a vintage year for movies and music.

They've switched to Heavy Metal here...
Judas Priest "Electric Eye"

"You think you've private lives
Think nothing of the kind
There is no true escape
I'm watching all the time

I'm made of metal
My circuits gleam
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean

I'm elected, electric spy
I'm protected, electric eye

Always in focus
You can't feel my stare
I zoom into you
You don't know I'm there

I take a pride in probing all your secret moves
My tearless retina takes pictures that can prove

I'm made of metal
My circuits gleam
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean

I'm elected, electric spy
I'm protected, electric eye

Electric eye, in the sky
Feel my stare, always there
There's nothing you can do about it
Develop and expose
I feed upon your every thought
And so my power grows

I'm made of metal
My circuits gleam
I am perpetual
I keep the country clean

I'm elected, electric spy
I'm protected, electric eye

Protected. Detective. Electric eye."

Burning Down the House by Talking Heads now

Talking Heads
Once in a Lifetime (1984)
Burning Down The House

Watch out
you might get what you're after
Cool babies
strange but not a stranger
I'm an ordinary guy
Burning down the house

Hold tight wait till the party's over
Hold tight We're in for nasty weather
There has got to be a way
Burning down the house

Here's your ticket pack your bag: time for jumpin' overboard
The transportation is here
Close enough but not too far, Maybe you know where you are
Fightin' fire with fire

All wet
hey you might need a raincoat
Shakedown
dreams walking in broad daylight
Three hun-dred six-ty five de-grees
Burning down the house

It was once upon a place sometimes I listen to myself
Gonna come in first place
People on their way to work baby what did you except
Gonna burst into flame

My house
S'out of the ordinary
That's might
Don't want to hurt nobody
Some things sure can sweep me off my feet
Burning down the house

No visible means of support and you have not seen nuthin' yet
Everything's stuck together
I don't know what you expect starring into the TV set
Fighting fire with fire

"Band on the run" - Paul McCartney and the Wings.

er, not exactly an 80's song I guess......but had lots of fun drunkenly hollering the lyrics with buddies back in the 80's.....

Absolute Reality by the Alarm

Hey now now
Hey hey hey

You may be rich
You may be poor
You may have nothing in this world at all
You may be black, you maybe white
You may be a prisioner in your own times
You may be lost. you may be found
You may have been beaten up and knocked to the ground
You may have belief, suffer from deceit
Or you just might be blind
Oh no no

You may affect the truth
You may be seen as false
You may be a king or a vagabond
You may be up, you may be down
You may sit in judgement with the rest of the clowns
You may have love
You may have hate
You may be the president of the united states
But even you, you cant sit and hide
While the worlds resources die

This is absolute reality reality reality
We are all the cause,
The solution to reality

Ooh yeah yeah
Hey now now
Hey now now

You may be in control
You may be controlled
You may sit down till you do as youre told
You may work hard
You may never work at all
You may be accused but you dont know what for
You may be innocent or partly to blame
You may just be afraid in this power mad age
But theres one thing we all must find
Some peace in our time

This is absolute reality reality reality
If I may speak of truth this is absolute reality
The absolute time, the absolute place
The absolute now for the absolute solution
Its absolute reality now
Now now now

This is absolute reality reality reality
This is absolute reality reality reality
This is absolute
Oh reality

La la la la la
This is absolute
La la la la la
Reality
La la la la la
This is absolute
Reality

Huh, now this is one I haven't heard in a while...

U2 "Mothers of the DIS-Appeared"

"Midnight, our sons and daughters
Were cut down and taken from us
Hear their heartbeat...
We hear their heartbeat
In the wind
We hear their laughter
In the rain
We see their tears
Hear their heartbeat...
We hear their heartbeat
Night hangs like a prisoner
Stretched over black and blue
Hear their heartbeat...
We hear their heartbeat
In the trees
Our sons stand naked
Through the walls
Our daughters cry
See their tears in the rainfall"

I need to update my iPod now. I've added so many songs to iTunes tonight thanks to you all :rotfl:

Most recent addition:

Dirty Laundry - Don Henley

I make my living off the evening news
Just give me something that I can use
People love it when you lose
They love dirty laundry

Well I could have been an actor
But I wound up here
I just have to look good
I don't have to be clear
Come and whisper in my ear
We need dirty laundry

Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em all around

We got the bubble-headed bleach blonde
Comes on at five
She can tell ya 'bout the plane crash
With a gleam in her eye
It's int'resting when people die
Give us dirty laundry

Can we film the operation
Is the head dead yet
Y'know the boys in the newsroom
Got a running bet
Get the widow on the set
We need dirty laundry

You don't really need to find out
What's going on
You don't want to know just
How far it's gone
Just leave well enough alone
Keep your dirty laundry

Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em where they sit
Kick 'em all around

Dirty little secrets
Dirty little lies
We got our dirty little fingers
In ev'rybody's pies
We love to cut you down to size
We love dirty laundry

We can do the innuendo
We can dance and sing
When it's said and done we haven't
Told you a thing
We all know that crap is king
Give us dirty laundry

Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em when they're down
Kick 'em when they're up
Kick 'em all around

Supertramp "The Logical Song"

"When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful,
A miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily,
Joyfully, playfully watching me.
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible,
Logical, responsible, practical.
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable,
Clinical, intellectual, cynical.

There are times when all the world's asleep,
The questions run too deep
For such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd
But please tell me who I am.

Now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical,
Liberal, fanatical, criminal.
Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're
Acceptable, respectable, presentable, a vegetable!

At night, when all the world's asleep,
The questions run so deep
For such a simple man.
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd
But please tell me who I am."

Now it's "Crumblin' Down" by John Cougar or was it John Mellencamp or John Cougar Mellencamp. "The Authority Song" was great, too!!

:thumbsup2

Saw him in concert a few years ago and was so ticked he didn't do my two favorite songs by him - the aforementioned Authority Song and Ain't Even Done With the Night.

Tickets were free so I can't really complain though:rotfl:
