Flashback from the eighties

Lots of catchy songs there! Thanks for the flashback!

Now they are playing "Never Be the Same" by Christopher Cross. I forgot about that one.

I've got one last one...Don Henley/End of the Innocence.

Thanks for great thread, I'm off to bed, night all!

I love when the iTunes shuffle finds song I forgot I had on there. . . this one's so cheesy, how can you not love it?

The Safety Dance - Men Without Hats
We can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
Well they're no friends of mine

Say, we can go where we want to, a place that they will never find
And we can act like we come from out of this world
Leave the real one far behind

And we can dance

We can go when we want to, the night is young and so am I
And we can dress real neat from our hats to our feet
And surprise them with the victory cry

Say, we can act if we want to, if we don't nobody will
And you can act real rude or totally removed
And I can act like an imbecile

Say we can dance, we can dance
Everything's out of control
We can dance, we can dance
They're doing it from pole to pole
We can dance, we can dance
Everybody look at your hands
We can dance, we can dance
Everybody taken the chance

The safety dance
The safety dance
The safety dance

We can dance if we want to, we've got all your life and mine
As long as we abuse it we are never going to lose it
And everything will work out right

Say, we can dance if we want to, we can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
well they're no friend of mine

I've got one last one...Don Henley/End of the Innocence.

Thanks for great thread, I'm off to bed, night all!

I know! I need to go to bed, too, but I can't stop listening to my 80s station and sharing the songs with you all.

:woohoo:

This is great! My parents didn't get cable until after I was married and moved out so I never was able to watch MTV. Of course I know these songs, but have never seen the videos. Never thought to look them up on YouTube either. :thumbsup2

They also bought their first VCR and new TV when I moved out. What's up with that?

Now it's "Friend or Foe" by Adam Ant. I don't remember it as much as I remember "Goody Two Shoes" and "Desparate but not Serious"

Here is an incredible version of " Heat of the Moment" done many years later that really strikes home. Hope you enjoy it.

Ohhh, that is really pretty. I love acoustic versions. I wish he had stuck with "and now you find yourself in '82" rather than changing it to '96. But I really enjoyed it.

Speaking of acoustic versions, I love Colin Hay's acoustic of "Overkill", this links to Scrubs where he sings it. I love it. It's perfect. Especially if you are a Scrubs fan.

Ok, this is from 1991, so I'm breaking the rule. But all you Henley fans should enjoy this acoustic version of "The Heart of the Matter"
I used to be obsessed with Don Henley. I think he is one of the greatest songwriters ever.

Sorry to go off on an acoustic tangent!!

I heard this as I was going to bed last night. Apparently Devo did a version of "I Can't Get No Satisfaction." I thought they were pretty much a one-hit wonder with "Whip It" - Crack that Whip!

I know this is an 80s thread, but speaking of the Stones I loved "Waiting on a Friend" "Under My Thumb" "You Can't Always Get What you Want" and of course "Sympathy for the Devil"

Men At Work "It's A Mistake"

"Don't think that we don't know
Don't think that we're not trying
Don't think we move too slow
It's no use after crying
Saying

It's a mistake, it's a mistake
It's a mistake, it's a mistake

After the laughter has died away
And all the boys have had their fun
No surface noise now, not much to say
They've got the bad guys on the run

Don't try to say you're sorry
Don't say he drew his gun
They've gone and grabbed old Ronnie
He's not the only one saying

It's a mistake, it's a mistake
It's a mistake, it's a mistake

Tell us commander, what do you think?
COS we know that you love all that power
Is it on then, are we on the brink?
We wish you'd all throw in the towel

We'll not fade out too soon
Not in this finest hour
Whistle your favourite tune
We'll send a card and flower
Saying

It's a mistake, it's a mistake
It's a mistake, it's a mistake"

ITs a Mistake

Can we add some country to the 80's mix. Nothing better that Dolly's "I will always love you"

I also liked this song and heard in the car today. I know it's the nineties but the original from Sting was from the 80's.

I'll Be Missing You- P Diddy/Sting

Memories give me the strength I need to proceed
Strength I need to believe
My thoughts, Big, I just can't define
Wish I could turn back the hands of time
Us and the six shop for new clothes and kicks
You and me takin' flics
Makin' hits, stages they receive you on
Still can't believe you're gone
Give anything to hear half your breath
I know you still livin' your life after death

Every step I take
Every move I make
Every single day
Everytime I pray
I'll be missing you
(I'll be missing you)

Thinking of the day
When you went away
What a life to take
What a bond to break
I'll be missing you

Oh can't you see
You belong to me?
How my poor heart aches
With every step you take.

Somebody tell me why...

One black morning
When this life is over
I know, I'll see your face

Every step I take
Every move I make
Every single day
Everytime I pray
I'll be missing you...

We miss you

I just got back from the gym, and The Who (my favorite band!) made for a great, meaningful workout this morning. Among the songs I listened to were;

-I Can't Explain (I was singing the chorus out loud; "I know what it means but....I can't explain!)
-Won't Get Fooled Again
-Substitute
-I'm Free
-Join Together
-Who Are You
-Slip Kid
-Music Must Change
-Eminence Front
-Another Tricky Day
-Listening To You
-Amazing Journey

I'm really in the mood now to listen to Quadrophenia, IMHO the Who's best work and their absolute peak as musicians. If you're not familiar with it it's set in the 60's and is the story of Jimmy, a teen coming of age, struggling with his own sense of self.

His saga is set against the battle of rival British gangs of mods and rockers as Jimmy tries to figure out who he is and how he fits in. Timeless music and timeless narrative.

It's all good stuff. You folks should definitely give it a try!
