Flashback from the eighties

I missed this thread last night, and haven't read every page yet so apologies if some of these have already been mentioned. But some of my favourites are

I know there's something going on (Frida), Our lips are sealed (go-gos) and Church of the Poison Mind (Culture club).

As this thread started with a Queen track - I offer up my favourite - called Death on Two Legs it has some FANTASTIC lyrics for singing out loud when alone in the car - usually after a set-to with my husband ;)

Like:

Misguided old mule with your pig headed rules
With your narrow minded cronies
Who are fools of the first division
Death on two legs
You're tearing me apart
Death on two legs
You've never had a heart of your own

AND

Is your conscience all right
Does it plague you at night?
Do you feel good feel good?

AND

You talk like a big business tycoon
You're just a hot air balloon
So no one gives you a damn
You're just an overgrown schoolboy
Let me tan your hide
A dog with disease
You're the king of the 'sleaze'
Put your money where your mouth is
Mister know-all
Was the fin on your back
Part of the deal? (shark)

....Among the songs I listened to were;

-I Can't Explain (I was singing the chorus out loud; "I know what it means but....I can't explain!)
-Won't Get Fooled Again
-Substitute
-I'm Free
-Join Together
-Who Are You
-Slip Kid
-Music Must Change
-Eminence Front
-Another Tricky Day
-Listening To You
-Amazing Journey

...wow, THIS brings back memories....two of MY faves..."Boris the Spider" and "My Wife"

I heard this as I was going to bed last night. Apparently Devo did a version of "I Can't Get No Satisfaction." I thought they were pretty much a one-hit wonder with "Whip It" - Crack that Whip!

I know this is an 80s thread, but speaking of the Stones I loved "Waiting on a Friend" "Under My Thumb" "You Can't Always Get What you Want" and of course "Sympathy for the Devil"

"Waitin' on a Friend" was actually the only one from the 80's.....

Watching MusicChoice right now on Comcast. Just caught the end of "We Didn't Start the Fire" and started laughing. One of the local radio stations burnt down years ago. They rebuilt the building and when they went back on air, that was the first song they played :rotfl:

Then it switched to good old Milli Vanilli, "Girl You Know It's True"

Speaking of Chicago- How about "Hard Habit to Break"? Ahhh memories of high school dances.:lovestruc

Hard Habit to Break - Chicago

I guess I thought you'd be here forever
Another illusion I chose to create
You don't know what you've got until it's gone
And I found out a little too late

I was acting as if you were lucky to have me
Doing you a favor - I hardly knew you at all
Then you were gone and it all was wrong
Had no idea how much I cared

Now being without you takes a lot of getting used to
I should learn to leave with it, but I don't want to

CHORUS:
Being without you, was all a big mistake
Instead of getting any easier, it's the hardest thing to take
I'm addicted to you, baby
You're a hard habit to break

You found someone else, you had every reason
No one can blame you for running to him
Two people together, but living alone
I was spreading my love too thin

After all of these years I'm still trying to shake you
Doing much better - They say that it just takes time
But deep in the night, it's an endless fight
I can't get you out of my mind

Now being without you takes a lot of getting used to
I should learn to leave with it, but I don't want to

CHORUS

I can't go on, just can't go on
I can't go on, just can't go on

Being without you takes a lot of getting used to
I should learn to leave with it, I don't want to

CHORUS

Such a hard habit to break
I'm addicted to you
You're a hard habit to break
Such a hard habit to break
I'm addicted to you, baby

I also liked this song and heard in the car today. I know it's the nineties but the original from Sting was from the 80's.

I'll Be Missing You- P Diddy/Sting

Memories give me the strength I need to proceed
Strength I need to believe
My thoughts, Big, I just can't define
Wish I could turn back the hands of time
Us and the six shop for new clothes and kicks
You and me takin' flics
Makin' hits, stages they receive you on
Still can't believe you're gone
Give anything to hear half your breath
I know you still livin' your life after death

Every step I take
Every move I make
Every single day
Everytime I pray
I'll be missing you
(I'll be missing you)

Thinking of the day
When you went away
What a life to take
What a bond to break
I'll be missing you

Oh can't you see
You belong to me?
How my poor heart aches
With every step you take.

Somebody tell me why...

One black morning
When this life is over
I know, I'll see your face

Every step I take
Every move I make
Every single day
Everytime I pray
I'll be missing you...

We miss you

I  this version even more than the original. It always chokes me up, though.

here's another good one. Gotta love Paul McCartney.

Freedom:

This is my right, a right given by god
To live a free life, to live in freedom

We talkin about freedom
Talkin bout freedom
I will fight, for the right
To live in freedom

Anyone, who wants to take it away
Will have to answer, cause this is my right

We talkin about freedom
Talkin bout freedom
I will fight, for the right
To live in freedom, ah yeah, comon now...

(lead solo)

You talkin about freedom
Were talkin bout freedom
I will fight, for the right
To live in freedom

Everybody talkin bout freedom
Talkin bout freedom
I will fight, for the right
To live in free----------dom

Love that movie!!!!!

Doesn't get much better than The Breakfast Club!

"Dear Mr. Vernon, we accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it is we did wrong, but we think you're crazy for making us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us, in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But what we found out, is that each one of us is a brain, and an athlete, and a basketcase, a princess, and a criminal. Does that answer your question? Sincerely yours, The Breakfast Club. "
