Flag removal

Yeah. No worries. It's a common mistake- b/c there's obviously a way of looking at the ANV Battle Flag as being comprised of "stars and bars". It's the actual First National Flag that is/was the "Stars and Bars" though. When you see it side-by-side to the "Stars and Stripes" it makes sense.

Ok I know the real National Flags............and it does make sense......I stand corrected! See that we learn something new everyday!

HAHA. I honestly only nailed it all down a few years ago myself- and I'm a pretty big CW buff. I think "Stars and Bars" has a catchy sound to it- so it kind of became shorthand for the commonly "known" rebel flag (post-war). Maybe Dukes of Hazard are to blame! ;)

Well said. Agreed. Though it isn't the "Stars and Bars" (i.e. First National Flag) that the sickos have poisoned/abused but rather the ANV Battle Flag (and later "modern" variations thereof).

Incidentally- with everything on R.E. Lee's plate at the time- I somehow don't think he spent much time dwelling on flags (especially when it was changed/altered 3-4 times in the space of 4 years). I think even the whole idea of celebrating "central government" was somewhat taboo in the actual Confederacy. It was State first. Heck- GA even considered seceding from the Confederacy when they thought Jeff Davis was being too tyrannical/centralized.
Georgia seceding from what they seceded to. Historical inception

I think we should just replace it with another american flag when it pops up in the show. It won't offend anyone but im sure there'll be a lot of confused faces

There are some who want the American flag taken down everywhere too. They say that slavery existed under this flag from the nation's inception until 1865 (about 90 years) while the Confederacy only lasted 4 years. Nothing would surprise me. The wants of the few...

Mind as well fly a white flag because we mind as well surrender our backbone while we're at it

to clarify: only a few racists want the confederate flag up and only a few want the American flag down

To clarify, are you saying that anyone who displays the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia (which people still erroneously call the "Confederate" flag) is a racist, or are you saying only a few of those who display that flag are racists?

Will be interested in your answer, as will the 4,500 people who showed up today in Ocala, FL for the "Florida Southern Pride Ride," which was a rally for those who want to emphasize they see the (not) "Confederate" flag as a symbol of heritage and regional pride. Some in the media are describing this event an example of a growing backlash against those who are trying to redefine the the flag as solely a symbol of evil and hate.

Welcome to America, instead of trying to embrace those that are hurting, or try to walk a mile in their shoes, lets just continue to shove an agenda or symbol that many in this country view as hate in their faces.

I'm from the south, born, raised, and have lived in the state of NC my entire life. I don't get the connection of the confederate flag to modern day Southerners, I'm sorry, I just don't. I see modern day southerns as saying, please and thank you, not by being rude and shoving hate down others throats.

This isn't just "southern hertiage" anymore, it's obvious that this flag now represents so much more than southern hertiage to others in this country. Perception is reality.

BTW, thank these people for ruining the flag, not everyone else.

This is the only flag that matters. Period.

The American flag was used almost exclusively by the KKK until the 1960's.

No question they've used the flag, the difference, the majority of people see what that flag stands for, and its not hate, its freedom. Whether its true or not, perception IS reality, a good slogan to live by, in modern times the perception of the Confederate flag is hatred.

People are too concerned with waiving the Confederate flag around than to try to understand why others are upset about it.

I keep hearing heritage when people waive that flag around, that flag represents this country splitting in two, it represents split nation, the American flag represents unity. The American flag represents the heritage of the South AND the rest of the country.

Welcome to modern times in America, "I'm going to do whatever the hell I want to, no matter how much it upsets or pisses off people, and I'm not even going to listen to what they have to say."

Freedom is a matter of perspective.
Yes, your quote applies exactly to people wanting the flag of Northern Virginia removed, call the wambulance. Some want to take down the American flag because it flew a longer time when slavery existed in the US.

Isn't it fair to fly the American Flag on federal grounds and the State Flag and the American Flag on State property though? What someone does on their personal property is one thing, but when we start flying flags from previous nations on our federal land, I don't think its right.

Why can't we be proud of our heritage without having to approve of everything our forefathers did or stood for? I had a "whatever you want to call it" flag hanging in my bedroom growing up. It was a symbol of the south, nothing more. And it will always be that way to me, no matter how many people think otherwise.

As for Disney taking it down, that's their right. If they feel it's the proper thing to do, it's an individual choice on private property. It's not the same as government property where the voters and residents should have a say in what happens.

If you want to fly it on your property, fine by me, you have the right. As stated above, I just don't think they should be flying on government grounds.

I have zero problem with it being placed in a museum, and maybe I'm wrong here, but I really do view American Adventure as a museum in a sense. I think Disney should have left it up, it is a part of our history and people need to be taught about it.

I'm just don't agree with people waiving it around like fools right now, but this is America, and if someone wants to waive it around like a fool, that's their right. But its also someone's else's right to say something about it also.

Yes, to those poorly read in history (who keep incorrectly labeling the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia the "Confederate" flag), and possess little or no appreciation of regional heritage and who are either naive about or apologists for overly zealous, politically motivated cultural cleansing.
