WaltD4Me said:I may be wrong, but I find it hard to believe this will have a "large" impact on Disney's projected income. First I think the impact will be alot less because this glitch only effected Florida residents and then only those that read Disney discussions boards like this one. Had the glitch been good for anyone, then THAT probably could have had an impact....I know I would have booked something!...also, those FL residents that did book rooms will still be going to Disney and spending money. Disney is not totally losing out as opposed to say a company selling goods who had a glitch selling their $100 product for $1.00, with no hope for additional income from that sale. Since it seems
many people who booked had no plans for trips and once they are down there, Disney will be getting money from them that they would not have otherwise.
Also Disney is a HUGE company, I really doubt a limited one day glitch like this one will have that much effect on operations/income at the parks.
You may be wrong, I may be wrong. All I was saying is that it is going to have an impact. There could have been FL residents that aren't on this board that booked it...maybe they always book online. And just becuase these were "unplanned" trips doesn't mean that Disney isn't losing money on the room. What about the people who were planning trips for those dates and willing to pay the higher rate but can't now because the rooms are not available? Disney would have received money on food, merchandise, etc. either way, so I'm not talking about that. Yes, maybe people are more willing to spend more on food and merchandise if the spent less on the room, but it's like robbing from Peter to pay Paul (or however that goes.) I doubt that people are going to spend more money overall because of this, especially since it wasn't planned and probably not budgeted for.
I never said it would have a huge impact, my point was this:
Disney is a company and has a budget and exists to make a profit. Just like we all work to have a paycheck and disposable income to enjoy ourselves. If our pay decreased by any amount, we would be impacted in some way. We still have the same obligations to pay monthly, just less money to do so and therefore "cut corners." The price of gas alone lately has taught me that lesson. So, I personally would expect that Disney would "cut corners" by possibly not offering discounts to others to compensate.
I appreciate your opinion, I just try to look at the other side of the coin. Notice that I didn't berate anyone about booking during this glitch, which I believe was more than 1 day. I simply stated my opinion and observations on it. I think many people would feel differently if it was them getting duped instead of the large corporation that is Disney and thought I would present the other side of it. That's all.
