Fl Resident Rate Glitch

I may be wrong, but I find it hard to believe this will have a "large" impact on Disney's projected income. First I think the impact will be alot less because this glitch only effected Florida residents and then only those that read Disney discussions boards like this one. Had the glitch been good for anyone, then THAT probably could have had an impact....I know I would have booked something!...also, those FL residents that did book rooms will still be going to Disney and spending money. Disney is not totally losing out as opposed to say a company selling goods who had a glitch selling their $100 product for $1.00, with no hope for additional income from that sale. Since it seems
many people who booked had no plans for trips and once they are down there, Disney will be getting money from them that they would not have otherwise.

Also Disney is a HUGE company, I really doubt a limited one day glitch like this one will have that much effect on operations/income at the parks.

You may be wrong, I may be wrong. All I was saying is that it is going to have an impact. There could have been FL residents that aren't on this board that booked it...maybe they always book online. And just becuase these were "unplanned" trips doesn't mean that Disney isn't losing money on the room. What about the people who were planning trips for those dates and willing to pay the higher rate but can't now because the rooms are not available? Disney would have received money on food, merchandise, etc. either way, so I'm not talking about that. Yes, maybe people are more willing to spend more on food and merchandise if the spent less on the room, but it's like robbing from Peter to pay Paul (or however that goes.) I doubt that people are going to spend more money overall because of this, especially since it wasn't planned and probably not budgeted for.

I never said it would have a huge impact, my point was this:
Disney is a company and has a budget and exists to make a profit. Just like we all work to have a paycheck and disposable income to enjoy ourselves. If our pay decreased by any amount, we would be impacted in some way. We still have the same obligations to pay monthly, just less money to do so and therefore "cut corners." The price of gas alone lately has taught me that lesson. So, I personally would expect that Disney would "cut corners" by possibly not offering discounts to others to compensate.

I appreciate your opinion, I just try to look at the other side of the coin. Notice that I didn't berate anyone about booking during this glitch, which I believe was more than 1 day. I simply stated my opinion and observations on it. I think many people would feel differently if it was them getting duped instead of the large corporation that is Disney and thought I would present the other side of it. That's all.

Of course Disney exsists to make a profit. My point was though, that in the grand scheme of things, I doubt this will make a "large" impact as you did say.

I am not berating you for your opinion, but I think a Disney probably loses more on a rainy day than they will from this "glitch" because of the reasons I mentioned in my post.

I also do not feel Disney was "duped." As they are indeed a business, it is their responsibility to make sure things are running properly. Of course things happen and mistakes are made, but it isn't as if this was some sort of intentional con. I myself am a computer programmer and I if I were to make an error such as this, I know my company would honor the error price. I know because it has happened. Were we happy about it? Of course not, but to maintain good customer relations in light of our error, we did honor our mistake and have received increased customer loyalty from it.

I can't imagine this is more then 50 rooms or so. The whole panhandle had better things to worry about then WDW last night, and the mistake wasn;t corrected right away, you would think if hundreds of rooms were filling up someone would have noticed

Congrats to all that got in.

I think the tally is in the 200's. I know I called everyone I know that I work on the base with and all 20 of them booked. I had 4 family members book and when it posted to my other travel board atleast 35 of them booked so I know of almost 60 people alone with reservations not counting this board. Plus these 60 people booked more than once and half with 2 rooms. However Disney should profit from this due to unplanned trips and families of four going. Congrats to all and no one should feel bad. Im sure they will have to air one more night of Desperate Houswives next season on ABC to help with the costs. I just hope that they will have enough money to pay the electric bill while im there. Oh yeah "Im going to Disney World"

That's fine and I see your point as I get the impression you understand mine, all we can do is wait and see. I mispoke when I said large I guess when I really meant "some impact." We'll see what happens, at this point it's all speculation. :teeth:

I'm just curious what number everyone is calling to try to pay for their reservation. I was able to book 5 nights in October for a total of $57.20. :cool1: I paid my deposit of $11.44 and received an email confirmation moments later. I think I was probably one of the last people to get this "glitch" deal. It was around 9:45pm last night when I booked it. It showed up under my vacations on the website shortly after showing a balance of $45.76. I have come across several different numbers and didn't know if anyone has tried these or just tried the main number (407WDISNEY). The website lists a number of 407-939-7675 and my reservation states a number of 407-939-7429. I'm sure they all lead to the same place but just wondering if anyone tried to pay using the numbers listed on the reservations.
I managed to get mine paid with using 1-800-828-0228 last night. I did try the other numbers & was on hold for too long & hung up each time. My sister tried every number you mentioned plus mine...got thru on 407 # (I think)& they are the ones that told her they wouldn't accpet the payment...

Speaking of Desperate Housewives, my favorite band Better Than Ezra will be featured in the fall promos with their song "Juicy." If you like it, go out and buy the cd! They're from New Orleans and unfortunately had to evacuate, so keep them in your thoughts. Theur message board has a cult following just as devoted as all of the members here..check them out if you haven't already!

I think this whole thing is pretty funny.. After making people jump through hoops and deal with on-line reservation systems that are totally unreliable, it appears the joke is on Disney.. :rotfl:

Hope you all have a SUPER time on your trips.. "This one's on Disney.." :rotfl2:

I totally agree!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

iT SURE IS ON DISNEY THEY MADE A MISTAKE AND THEY ARE GOING TO HONOR IT PUT FOR NOW THEY HAVE TURNED OF THE FL RATES SO NO ONE ELSE CAN BOOK IT I GUESS YOU GUYS DID GET THE BEST OF US.

How did we get the best of you?? The florida rates are still available by calling the number. It was only a matter of time before the glitch was caught and fortunately people were able to maximize from this. Plus your telling me that if you lived in florida you would not have done the same thing?
I am going to purchase an annual pass for each of my family members if the honor my reservations that I wouldn't have done in the first place. Im sorry you are bitter but don't blame us for an unfortunate event.

nobodys is bitter it is not my money so i could really care less but if for some unforseen reason disney decided not to honor the rates you are you guys going to call and blame it on us.

I didnt mean to upset you "AMICKEYFAN". IT just seemed odd, that you were thr only one who was able to pay via the phone. I just tried again for kicks, and was told, no, the balance is due at check in. THere is no way the can process the payment.

Im glad you got it, good for you. Mayeb they will honor yours and cancle ours. Either way im h oping for some word from them, as I still havent heard anything.

ANYBODY OUT THERE KNOW IF THEY ARE HONORING THIS?

Your displeasure should be aimed at Disney - not the people here who just happened upon this scenario.. Disney is a HUGE business and their ability to run it efficiently is THEIR responsibility.. It was their choice to fiddle with this, tweak that, shuffle the other thing around - and guess what? It's coming back to haunt them.. And frankly, I don't think they've seen the end of their woes either.. Many AP and Florida passholders are very upset with them - gas prices will continue to climb - there is still time for plenty more hurricanes - and Disney may very well find all of their restrictions coming back to bite them in the butt.. Time will tell.. ;)

Not trying to stir the pot or anything, and I am the first one to buy a mug at one resort and take it to another but - are there any mug bashers out there taking advantage of this Disney mistake?? I sure hope not!!

Well Im going to need a name and a number so I can accuately blame it on "US". The horse has been beaten enough stating that it would be foolish not to honor it so won't touch that again. If they don't honor it they don't honor it. I will just have to stay at the Swan or Dolphin then. No worries here.

When I have booked via telephone, I received a written confirmation and there was information on paying the reservation (i.e. you can mail a check). The online confirmation received in the mail was not the same, and did not provide any information on paying prior to check-in. So, it does seem to matter how you register.

The cancellation policy is also different, 45 days for online, and 5 for telephone (room only).
Thank you for posting that... I had wondered why it was a different cancellation policy.... but it says 46 days... odd :confused3 Now I am really wondering what are they going to do now that they did take my money to pay the balance on 2 of my trips :confused3 Maybe they will refund all but the deposit as the CM told my sister....oh well, I guess all I can do is wait and see

No offense but you are from Kansas, how does the blocking of Fl Resident Rates stop you from booking? :confused3 You aren't a FL resident, so that wouldn't pertain to you? It isn't blocking other rates, only for Floridians. This post is bringing me to another point... I wonder how many people who aren't Florida residents that have booked thru this glitch? That will also hurt everyone involved. By booking when not a resident is actully being dishonest. By booking and there is a glitch...that isn't dishonest. :badpc: I am thinking Disney wishes they would have never made it that way for the Florida Residents now.... that must also be one of the reasons that you never were able to get that rate online...anyone can get into it & book ...just put in a FL zip code. Where as when you call & you are online with a person, they will question why you don't have a FL address & you are trying to get a Fl rate?????? something to think about.....
Judging from some of these posts, there are a few that aren't from FL that have taken advantage of the glitch.... and just by putting someone's name that is from FL on it will not fly with Disney. The primary name (person booking) must prove residency at check in! or the rate will not be granted....so those of you that have done this, you need to rethink...what are you going to do when you show up (that is if they do end up honoring these rates for us) without a picture ID showing your residency?????

Hey..you got a point there ... :rotfl: :rotfl:

Maybe for once they will actually check my ID when I check in. It would be a first and Im sure people are hoping for them not to but in the past if someone in the party who was 18 and had a resident in the party, it was good enough for Disney. I will be more than proud to show my FL DL when the time comes or is that going to get the best of us?

I would gather from other posts that tcsmom works for Disney.

Dishonest, not sure. The honorable thing to do, probably not. Kinda like being given too much change at a retail store. The clerk made the mistake, the company can probably afford the loss, but I will always give the money back. Why, it's the right thing to do.

I saw the glitch, I live in Florida, the rates were unbelieveable, so much so I knew something was wrong. I just do not have to go bad enough to take advantage of someone else's misfortune even if that someone else is Disney.

The savings would not be worth the cost to me.
