Five Guys vent

So, for those of you that think they shouldn't have peanuts, how about seafood restaurants? Should they stop serving seafood? Should restaurants that do serve sea food be required to put signs on the door stating they serve sea food? I know a LOT more people with seafood allergies then peanut allergies.

Well I think it's fine if they have peanuts but I do think they need to provide a warning on the door just because it isn't expected that a restaurant serving burgers will have peanuts out in the open and cracked on the floor. Now if the restaurant were called "Joe's Peanut and Steak Shack" then I think that's pretty obvious. But, there is nothing about "Five Guys Burgers and Fries" that tells me that it is a peanut land mine.

For restaurants, it's a given that there will be at least one seafood dish on any menu. Most restaurants post a menu at the door and you can read it before you even walk in.

What a horrible way to find out that the Five Guys in my town has closed!! Read this whole thread, crave Five Guys all day, then get the wonderful surprise that they've closed in Salisbury. They picked a crappy location in town anyway. Grrrrr..

The peanuts are the best things in Five Guys. $10 for a blah burger, fries, and swamp water sweet tea is the thing I remember the most.

Ours also had multiple signs warning of peanuts. Stay away from the Various Roadhouse restaurants also.

I've eaten at Five Guys all over the country, found the burgers to be consistently great and the fries hot. Nothing like Wendy's or Steak & Shake, so I don't get the comparisons. Anyways, every one I've been in from South Florida to DC to Michigan all have big peanut allergy warning signs on the doors. Sorry your kids can't eat peanuts, but my 3 and 5 yos gobble 'em up!

Yep, although we don't take our kid to 5 guys because much of the oleic acid in the peanut is found in the paper-like wrappers around the peanut. There's too much of that detritus floating around 5 guys to make it worth it.

Oh I agree with you on that. We have about five, Five Guys restaurants within easy driving distance. One of them hardly gets much business. I can go in there between 11:00-11:30 and it is pretty spotless. This particular one is very clean and the workers are always cleaning. A few of the others are crazy busy and I do not take my son into those. Just the non-busy one and the one at the mall that does not serve peanuts.

There are 2 Five Guys locations here within 10 miles of each other. Both of them have very prominent signage at front door and on the window about the peanuts and peanut oil. The signs are also posted again near the menu so there is no way that anyone who is looking could miss the notices.

I am sorry that you had a problem with that particular location. Perhaps they were negligent in not having the proper signage and in that case, I would call the restaurant to speak with them about it.

Also, just want to add that we love Five Guys but also know that the food is not good for us - we limit our visits there to once every 6 weeks. No sense in totally clogging our arteries in a short period of time. ;) Food is always hot and fresh, though.
