We recently discovered our September cruise is one of the rooms without the Murphy Bed, just the top bunk and the sofa.

How young/old should children be when using the top bunk on DCL?

On all three of our Disney cruises we pulled the mattress down from the top bunk and placed it on the floor next to the sofa bed because my kiddo didn't want to go on the top bunk. We stowed the ladder under the bed and then put the mattress back up in the morning.

My just turned 5 year old grandson slept there, but he has a loft bed at home so he's used to climbing in.

And I actually slept up there a couple of nights after he had fallen asleep in the lower bunk with me. I'm a size 10 sixty year old, and while I had to watch my head, I felt perfectly safe in it.

Obviously it is pretty safe since they still have them, but a rocking ship and a moving sugared up 4-10 year old still worries me. Ours played up there but ended up both on the couch to sleep last trip, but next time they will be 8/13 so maybe they will pull it off. But my 8 year so may have to ask for the bed rails and the regular rails to build a fortress up there!

Mine were 3 and 6 both slept in the bunk they actually took turns who got the top bunk. They never had bunks at home.

There is a bar up there so they aren’t falling out. Both never got up to go to the washroom either but if they had to they would have called out.

My daughter is 25 and still goes to the top bunk over the couch…lol

Mine were 8 & 10 on our first cruise and fought over it - both did fine up there. Now, at 11 & 13 - they both want it for an upcoming cruise and are negotiating who will get it the first few nights, and who will be 2nd or how they will work it out.

How old is the child? Are you worried about your child being to young or to big for it?
