Fitting in Seven dwarfs mine train

Holy smokes! That isn't much room at all! OK, who else just took out a measuring tape and measured their legs? :rotfl:

I measured my hubby's too, lol. He was like what are you doing?? I said, "Disboard says we got 13.5 to squeeze these bad boys into for SDMT". His are like 15-16" with his legs as tightly pushed together as possible. We couldn't stop laughing bc he had to, umm, adjust himself to even get his legs that close together. He said, "well maybe the CMs will get a kick out of that at least!".:lmao:

Going to be interesting to see if we have any problems next weekend.

If you decide to keep it and try, I read somewhere else that someone got a paper unlimited FP because they couldn't ride. So if that's the case maybe the FP wouldn't go to waste even if you decide it's too uncomfortable for you both to ride.

hmm...maybe I'll have the hubs take one for the team and do the walk of shame if it is super uncomfortable! He can ride in Sept. when we go back, lol.

ETA...I think I will keep 2 FP+ then we can rider swap so we can all try it. I was going to have us all get a FP+ so we could do it twice but pretty sure once will be enough if it is as uncomfortable as I am imagining.

It really irks me when people post on a discussion thread like this to body shame or to make commenters somehow feel their concerns are not valid.

I think I speak for most people on this thread that one reason why I choose Disney is they are the most accommodating parks in the world. And I'm paying a premium for it. I've been to Disneyland and DisneyWorld many times. I have never been turned away from a ride and I am 5'10 and 400 pounds. Admittingly I have never tried ridding the off-the-shelf rides at each resort like Barnstormer, Go Gadget coaster, Goofy's coaster at DCA, Silly Symphony Swings and the Bugs Land rides. Mainly out of no interest. But I am shocked that I will probably be denied a ride on a 100m+, years in the making family ride (and I fit into the old Snow White ride just fine). Most rides not designed to accommodate larger people are super thrill rides that require strict safety concerns. Disney has already proved they can make accommodating thrill rides like California Screamin', RNR Coaster, Everest, TOT, etc.

There is no excuse for such a strict seating restraints on this coaster. Like was mentioned, an EASY fix is to have a few rows with one lap bar like Big Thunder. As a heavy person, I would rather have that option than no ride at all and Disney can easily mention these rows for guests who need more room. Judging by Josh's pic on Twitter, 2 average size adults would be able to use that row too. With the length of time to build and the lukewarm responses, Disney does not need this backlash.

It will be interesting to see if Universal learned from their mistake and make the new Gringott's ride more accessible/roomy for larger guests. THAT would really sting Disney. I go down Saturday and hoping Gringotts has a soft opening before june 11th.

I don't really get it either. Whatever your personal feelings are about fat people, the fact is that they are going to go on vacation like everyone else and, barring any safety requirements such as those necessary for extreme thrill rides, there is absolutely no reason that accommodations should not be made to allow the vast majority of people to enjoy a ride built in the 21st century.

Of course, no ride can accommodate EVERYONE. Someone who is 6'7" tall or who weighs 500 lbs is probably not within the sphere of the reasonable majority. However, if you're going to say that, in 2014, someone who is 6'1" and weighs 300 lbs is SO LARGE that they can't POSSIBLY be accommodated... that's ridiculous.

I couldn't stop chuckling about this at lunch. LOL

Just keep in mind there is nothing under your thighs where e bar comes down so they aren't flattened wider...if that makes sense. Your thighs are at the skinniest point they can be.

Plus, keeping in mind I'm 5'10", there was another 6-7" between my knees and the wall of the car so someone much taller could still sit in there without hitting their knees.

hey guys and gals.... longtime lurker.... super appreciative of all of the great info I've gotten off the forums over the years, never really felt to compelled to post, but figured I should register to share info on fitting onto the 7DMT. I am about 5'10", and probably fall somewhere around 320-ish with most of it carried around my middle (i'd guess 48" inch waist or so). From all of the posts, I was slightly concerned about riding this, and at best was expecting a bit of a cramped uncomfortable ride (worst being not able to ride at all, obviously).

Anyways, I fit into the seat just fine, the bar came down with no issues, it certainly wasn't roomy, but I wasn't uncomfortable whatsoever. I rode with another adult who is skinnier but taller. The ride is so smooth that you don't really need to worry about slamming into the person you're riding with or anything like that. I'd say if you're ok on Everest, you'll be fine on this.

As far as the ride was concerned, it was kinda meh.... it was fun, and the animatronics were cool, but nothing super mind-blowing or anything like that. As far as coasters are concerned, the only one I'd rank it over is The Barnstormer. I would definitely never wait more than 20 minutes to ride it, myself. I rode Big Thunder directly after, and it made Big Thunder seem extra thrilling. So it's got that going for it. :thumbsup2 Definitely worth doing for the experience, but it's probably not going to become anybody's favorite, unless they are just superfans of the Dwarfs.

I'm going to ride it again at night for the night time experience, and then that'll probably be good for me for this trip. Probably going to drop my Sunday fastpasses for it and change em back to Big Thunder. If someone's looking for some Sunday afternoon 7DMT fastpasses, PM me and I'll try and coordinate the drop, if that is what I decide to do.

Just so everyone has another visual with the measurements:

I rode this past Sunday and I am glad that I didn't read this thread prior or I would have been nervous. I am large (size 22) and didn't notice a tight fit at all. It was no problem fitting in the seat or pulling down the lap bar. My not so small friend rode next to me and it was no issue at all. I would have no idea that anyone had a problem fitting in the ride if I had not read this thread.

jb :thumbsup2

If you look at the close up picture you will see the 13.5 measurement is actually down close to your knees. It is not up at the widest part of the thighs. Up at the widest part of the thighs there really isn't anything over them. You could probably overlap/cross your knees if you had to to minimize that size.

Thanks for the first hand report!

I found Space Mountain uncomfortably tight 2 years ago. Is this one tight like that?... I should get motivated to lose some weight! I got a lot of work to do in the next 6 months!!!

Easywdw just posted this pic on twitter of the leg situation. p good reference.

https://twitter.com/easywdw/status/471750410626408448

I'm hoping my legs won't bang into the bar like what sometimes happens on the backwards part of EE.

Oh that really stinks! There's no way DH will fit into that ride. Due to a car accident his right knee does not even bend to 90° and he will not be able to fit both legs under that lap bar. This is the same reason he can't ride Space Mtn at DL. I was SO looking forward to this ride!:sad::sad:

Not possible unless you are super skinny. The bar sits on your lap (a CM will push it down to kids laps as well) and the bar is the same width across all places, it is a straight bar. In the 10x I have ridden this I have had to ask the CM to release the bar 2x because I have gotten myself stuck in a bad position when sitting down, I have never had to ask a CM to release the bar like that on any other ride. There is no way I can sit in any manner than flat foot on the floor of the car.

This go around today was much better seating wise because I had no bags to contend with so I was able to move my purse to hang over the lapbar and not have it under DH. It was a lot more comfortable. I'd suggest riding this with no bags if possible.

Lots of people will fit on this ride. There will be plenty who just won't. But I wold try before assuming it won't work. The worst case is you can't fit and they FP you onto a ride where you can.

Ahh, I see, both a lap bar and a grab bar. That box on the floor in the second picture has to be temporary, no place to put your feet, at least my feet.

I don't think so, it appears to be outside the area of where your feet would go. It looks no wider than the armrest above it.

It does look permanent and very much in the way on the floor.

I promise I will check it out on Friday and let you know. :goodvibes

Following up as promised.

That piece is definitely permanent, and it does restrict foot space. I could see the podiatricly-blessed having a tight fit.

As for the lap bar, I had no trouble with it at 6'2"/220, but my thighs are not overly large. (You're welcome for the visual.) I was conscious of the advice on here to not pull the lap bar back as far as possible. Just a little bit was enough for safety and not uncomfortable. DW would admit to carrying some extra weight in her thighs, and she also had no real issues. She said she was a little uncomfortable, but also admitted to pulling the bar back closer to her than she probably should have (I had advised her of not pulling it back too tight).

As for my opinion of the ride itself. Cute was the word that came to me first. Faster and "thrillier" than Barnstormer, slower and calmer than Big Thunder--as has been suspected for years. Theming is wonderful, the lone dark scene is gorgeous. I know many will say it didn't live up to the "hype", but I think the hype was borne out of a lot of impatient Disney fans thinking in their heads it must be pretty darn good to take this long.

Me too! I just had this mental image of all these men getting on and having to adjust themselves :rotfl::rotfl:

And thanks for the info about how much room was in front of your knees! My husband is 6'5" and has issues on MANY rides at WDW with his knees banging (mostly the boat/bench rides.)

Thank you to the OP as well. I've been wondering about this since I saw the very short/slender girl posting that it was a tight fit. I'm 5'9" and will be the shortest member of my traveling group, so I was worried for us. I'm not pooh sized, but I do have extremely muscular legs (which means thicker thighs.) My husband and I are both broader shouldered, so I'm wondering if we won't be able to ride together? I would be totally mortified if I didn't fit and had to do the "walk of shame" in front of all those people, so I was really thinking I'd just skip it and not risk the embarrassment. Seeing the pictures and measurements is giving me cause to think maybe I'll give it a chance?

My dad was 6ft11 and due to growth strain on his tendons he couldn't bend either knee beyond 90degrees. Meant no coasters for him period. And on Tower of terror he always had to be in the back row so he could put his legs down the center aisle.

I'm 6'2/220. I'm expecting a little snug, but no real problem. If that's not the case, I'll report back in a few days.

I'm 6ft2 - 210 and store most of my weight in my butt/thighs. I felt a *little* poured in, but not uncomfortable
