I do not know for sure - but - I remember signs that say to keep out of the lake. I don't know the exact wording on the signs, but it would tell me not to use the lake at all.
There are large turtles in the lake. You can see them from the bridge. They love Cheez-Its (that's what we had with us).
Fishing is a good question. I don't know the answer. Sorry I couldn't help.
I just found this on the POP thread.. sounds like a yes to me.. anyone else in to give it a try
Fishing is permitted around Hourglass Lake but not on Generation Gap Bridge (catch & release only)
Fishing equipment is not available for rent on property
A Florida fishing license is not required
Caution: grounds leading to the lake’s edge are steep and drop-off can be immediate.
My DH and DBiL have fished at the Pop on our previous trips without any problems, they found it very relaxing after a day at the park to take their rods and fish of the bridge. They used to stand on the bank behind the 50's but after a large snake passed through DH's legs they decided to fish off the bridge instead!
As well as a few fish on our last trip they also caught a large turtle and a 4ft (approx) alligator
Haha!! As they were high up on the bridge their biggest worry was how to get the gator off the line - he was too heavy to pull up (and they didn't really fancy that!). In the end he shook himself free thankfully and DH was left with a float full of teeth marks as a souvenir
He came back to visit them a few times when they fished in the evenings, we did report him to Pop staff but we continued to see him during our stay, I think he developed a liking for sliced white bread
Typical! I just asked DH, they caught some bass and bluegill, they also saw some grass carp but didn't catch any. As for the size - how wide can you stretch your arms?......
Ah, thank you You and your family have a fab time too, AoA looks great
I wish we could have stayed at AoA but it wasnt open for bookings when we booked our holiday (nearly 18 months ago!). Were hoping to go to AoA for a look around and also over to the Pop (part of me will miss not staying there this trip).
Keep me updated of any interesting catches at the Pop! and I hope your DH has tight lines - I dont know if that is a British saying? but it means good luck with his fishing
"tight lines" hum... never heard of .... love it... GONNA USE IT!!!! I will keep U posted please feel free to stay in contact. I haven't really had this much communication on the boards before I like It...I'm a little shy
I have fished at cornodo and fort wilderness. Normally not an issue. Fishing for bass. There are gators, if you are there in spring, pay extra close attention.
"Tight lines" is not just a British saying -- it is a universal wish that you hook a fish and your line becomes tight -- as in when that monster fish is running for its life -- the fishing line goes straight out off the rod tip.
