Some of you are so committed to be doing day by day reports - I can barely remember what I had for breakfast - anyway here goes!!
This was our first trip and myself, DH, DS3 and my sister flew Ryanair from Dublin to Beauvais and then Blue Van to the Newport Bay. Highly recommend Blue Vans but if travelling again would fly with Air Lingus to CDG – the other crowd sap the life out of you and bring out the worst in all their passengers (rant over)
SUNDAY
We arrived at NB and checking in, we upgraded to Admirals Floor so were close to lifts and the interconnecting rooms we requested were supplied. Straight to the park. DS had fallen asleep and he woke up as we were entering the park – he was so happy. We were so lucky to be able to meet Mickey straight away and my son loved meeting all the characters – It brought a tear to my hormonal eyes every time!!
Before we left I found out I was pregnant and then was in a car accident so I was not able to go on the big rides – well to be honest I am such a ‘scardey cat’ I would probably not have done them anyway. We went on the smaller rides in Fantasyland and then got to see the parade from by It’s a Small World. This was fab as almost all the characters came over to speak to my son! The sun was shining – it was a great memory.
We headed back to the hotel and had dinner in Cape Cod – now we are foodies and from what I had heard our expectations for DLRP were not high – this proved to be correct. There was lots of choice, especially the starters but nothing was warm enough! We ate early so avoided the mad crowds. As we had an early start it was an early night!
MONDAY
We had booked breakfast for the park at 9.45 so DH & DS went off to do the EMH – which proved to be the most successful part of the trip as DS got to go on the teacups, dumbo & carosel over and over. Being 3 he cannot understand why he has to Q! Breakfast was in the Auberge and was good. Lots of everything, not too busy and as per the top tip made snacks for DS for later in the day.
We went through Frontierland and DS loved the playground! We also got great luck with seeing Woody, Mickey, Minnie, Pluto & Goofy with only a few minutes wait!!
After lunch we went to the studios and I thought this was great – DS has not yet learned fear so he loved all the rides and seemed to be a real thrill seeker – flying carpets, cars, etc. and was upset he could not go on Crush! He also thought the studio tour was great. We were very lucky to miss all the showers that day in between rides and shows.
That night we ate in The Steakhouse from the set menu. Thought it was a decent enough meal but DS was very tired so we didn’t hang around.
TUESDAY
Weather was truly dreadful so after breakfast in the Plaza I headed back to the hotel with DS whilst DH and sis went on the bigger rides. On the way back we had a great chat with Mary Poppins who was lovely to DS. We went swimming – it was freezing!! And the nice man did not charge us for the towels as he had no change.
Later we headed back to meet the others and had to shelter from the worse rain shower I had seen in years – but it picked up after than and we went into the studios. We loved Stitch, Cinemamagic and Anamagic whilst DH went on the big rides!!
That night we ate in Bobs and again there were lots of choice but why can’t the food be kept warmer? There were ribs, chicken, chilli, fajitas, etc, lots of salads and a good selection of desserts. DS on cue was in bad form and actually was sick but he headed back to the hotel and myself and sis did some shopping.
WEDNESDAY
Did not bother with EMH as it was our last day so we stayed in bed and would not put ourselves through q’ing for the hotel breakfast, its just not worth it!
Sis headed into Paris for the day and once we had checked out we headed over to the Park. On arrival the morning parade was just on and DS met tigger! We had a really beautiful sunny day so there were a lot of day trippers making the park busy. Some of them were so rude!
We took it easy all day and after DS got to drive his own car in Autopia we headed to the studios where DS met Mickey (his hero) again, Pluto. Later the train pulled out with Chip n Dale and Lila & Stich right in front of us – lots more photos!
We were getting tired so could have done with choosing an earlier flight – left hotel at 6.30. We had dinner in the Rainforest Cafe and the specials were good value. I had the main and dessert for €21 and DS meal was half price. DH has great ribs! It was a nice treat but was glad to have had the half board voucher for the other meals!!
Highlights –
Parade & DS meeting all the characters
Lows –
Buzz out of order, rude day trippers, cold food from the fast food places at lunch to evening meals,
It was a truly magical first trip and will go back again – but not for a while (at least until this little bean is old enough) – could have done with a holiday after it! Might save hard and try stay in Disney Hotel.
Thank you for all the top tips, they were invaluable!
