How is it for those who accompany an ECV rider? I read in one post about how "inconvenient" it was to be with someone on an ECV. I'll have one, and I'm so worried about DH. I don't want to "drag him down". The last time I used an ECV in the parks (first time ever), it was a solo trip. Last time I went with DH, I honestly wanted an ECV, but I was so concerned about being a burden, remembering some one commenting on the inconvenience of accompanying some one with one. So tell me honestly, how is it? And if you have any tips as to how I can make it easier to be with an ECV rider, I'd love to hear that.

My DH never complained about my ECV. If fact he liked that I had more stamina because I wasn't wearing myself out walking. I don't feel we did less because of the ECV.
I was going to say basically the same thing. I lasted longer and was happier due to less pain, so DH was happy!

Do not feel guilty for needing an ECV. We have had as many as four people in our large group with an ECV. I never felt inconvenienced. I felt happy to see them be able to enjoy their trips. You may spend some extra time getting through heavy traffic areas or possibly parking your ECV to transfer to a wheelchair for a very limited number of rides. Only suggestion I have is to wait for parade or firework traffic to lighten up before proceeding to your next destination. Maybe enjoy a near by snack or something while you wait. And above all enjoy your trip!

The only times my sister complained about me using an ECV was (1) when I ran into be back of her heels/ankles (er, which has happened exactly once each trip and I then get REALLY REALLY GOOD at leaving (even more) LOTS of following distance between her and I :-) ). And (2) when I would get too far ahead of her and she wanted to tell me something but I couldn't hear her. I tried to stay behind her as much as I could -- it kept us together, meant I was going no faster than a walking pace, and created a buffer from all the other humans running in front of the scooter. She sometimes would help clear the way for me too by doing the excuse me's or intercepting the kid about to run into my path.

She is glad I use it because it means I am not in severe pain by the end of the first half day. I can enjoy the trip, she can enjoy the trip, and we can do what we want when we want (within reason).

Its the opposite. I am rested at the end of the day and can keep on going when everyone is worn out and I also go faster than everyone and have to stop for them to catch up. I use one at home, so I am really good at it and don't run into people so nobody has to comment on going too fast. Even going at a 2 is faster than most people can walk!

I think you need to be considerate if you can go faster than the person walking with you. Make sure you are going at his pace. You can adjust the speed on the ECV. Now, if your husband can go faster than you then this may be where it can get more frustrating. But as others have said you will be able to do so much more being on a scooter that it's well worth it for him to adjust his pace.

If you become a team you can get through the parks better and faster. He can lead you through the crowds.

Renting an ECV was the best thing we ever did. We typically rent a wheelchair for my mom, but its getting a little difficult for me to push a wheelchair throughout the parks. So when my mom recently came down, I decided to try our first ECV. I did a lot of research, and decided to try a rental company called Big Orange Mobility in kissimmee. Surprise, they were very helpful and seemed genuinely concerned about helping us. The price was pretty good too. Kudos! Check out their website for their helpful videos. Bigorangemobility.com. Take a few minutes at the hotel to become familiar with the ecv, then get out there and enjoy the parks!

I go with some one that uses an ECV and then someone else that uses a power WC ( my friend in the ECV can walk some but not a lot my friend in a PC has CP and can not walk at all in fact this friend has very linnited movement)

about the ECV user

she can do the parks a lot longer she is not in pain like going with her because people give her more room in lines ( I have problems with lines and people crowding me) for the busses she /we are the first ones on and she is the last one off we share a bag and I will get off before her and go through bag check line and she will meet me on the other side sometimes when it is very crowded it is easer to say I will meet you her ( like if we are at HM and going to a FP at 7DMT and it is very crowded where IASM and PP is we will meet in the gift shop of pooh as people tend to cut her off she has to stop more and I do not do well in crowded area so I can get out quicker.)

I would have a phone on you are a place too meet if you get separated ( I find for my self and this maybe because of my disability I get separated from my friends that use ECV) but it really is not something that bothers us before we leave a land we just say if we get separated we will meet at ____ this only happened during high crowded days like 4 of july christmas and new years things like that most of the time.

but no do not feel bad I am sure your DH want you t have a good time and to enjoy your self inside the parks instead of at the hotel because you pushed your self to much. you will be able to d the same about of things you did before you will have fun and you will not be in pain run of of energy and need to rest all the time.

I haven't had any issues with the ECV - but - keep in mind that you will be cut off at least 50 times per day! People do not realize that they are cutting you off because you are lower than they are. They don't mean to walk in front of you. Keep a good attitude when cut off. And -- no speeding!!! Lol

I remember one time watching a man on an ECV and a man walking who were both yelling at each other "Watch where you're going!" Both were convinced the other was at fault for their collision. Not sure where the fault was, or if there was one.

I agree with everyone who says they last longer using the ECV. My husband says he enjoyed the day much more when I ride the ECV. The ECV can carry a backpack attached to the seat and loose stuff in the basket. That helps husband with less stuff to haul. I let husband lead (with a lot of space between us) but I know where we need to end up. We use our phones if we get badly split up. I also agree that waiting till after fireworks crowds clear. Lights on your ECV will help partner see you if he glances back. Check the dollar stores.
