We are going to Sea World for the first time on Monday, July 26th. I've been reading lots of threads and trying to come up with a plan. The park opens at 9:00 and is open until 10:00 pm.

I was thinking:

Enter at 9:00 and feed dolphins

See Blue Horizons at 10:00 (shows are at 10, 11:30, 1:30, 3:00 and 4:30)

See Believe (shows are at 11, 12:30, 2:30 and 5:30) - can we make the 11:00 show, or should I try for later?

We also want to see Clyde and Seamore (shows at 11:15, 12:45, 2:15, 3:45, and 5:15) and Pets Ahoy! (1:45, 3:15, 4:45, 6:15 and 7:30).

I have a DD11 who might want to ride Manta and Kraken, and a DD7 who will probably have no interest in them. We will purchase All Day Dining and plan to be in the park all day.

If the kids can make it, we'd like to see Shamu Rocks, Sea Lions Tonight and Reflections.

We will have the opportunity to come back Friday morning if we can't get everything done.

Questions:

Can we get everything done in one day?

Since there are so many of each show, do you think we could show up 30 minutes in advance and get a seat? I'm not sure what the capacity of the stadiums are in relation to the park capacity.

How should I structure our day?

Thanks to everyone who is willing to offer advice for us! :goodvibes

If shows are the most important to you during the day, I suggest you plan your day around the shows. Plan to visit attractions near show locations so your not running all over the park. It will make it alot easier if you do this. July is pretty crowded. The stadiums can fill to capacity rather quickly. Tonight for example, the 1st Shamu Rocks show was completely full 30 minutes before show time. Ofcourse, the 4th of July is one of the busiest days of the year, but in July, you never know how quick a stadium will fill up. Sometimes you may want to be there an hour before the show if you want to get a good seat.

The beginning of your plan looks great. Feeding the Dolphins and then going over to a 10:00 Blue Horizons show sounds perfect. However, I would disagree with the next part of your plan. The Blue Horizons show is about 30 minutes. That means you will be getting out at 10:30. The Shamu show is on the completely opposite side of the park. So you would be running to the show and I guarantee you wont get a good seat.

Following the Blue Horizons show, I would suggest heading over to Key West at Seaworld located near the Blue Horizons show. There you can see Turtles and Pet Sting Rays. I would then suggest heading over to Manta which is also near Blue Horizons. There is a beautiful aquarium located at Manta that your younger daughter can visit while her older sister rides the ride. It would be a good idea to do Manta before the large afternoon crowds come. This is a very popular ride. After Manta if there is time before the 12:45 Clyde and Seamore, I would suggest breaking for Lunch. There are several good places to eat in the park. Voyagers smokehouse and Seaport Pizza are located near Manta. Voyagers serves bbq chicken and ribs and Seaport pizza offers Pizza obviously. If there isnt time, I would suggest bringing a small snack and eating lunch later in the day.

Next, head on over to see the 12:45 Clyde and Seamore. Following the Show, you can visit the Sealion Exhibit located right outside the Stadium. Take some time to also view the Penguin Encounter located next to the Sealion exhibit. Following the Penguins, I would suggest you shoot over to the other side of the park to catch the 2:30 Believe. The reason for this is because chances are, its going to Thunderstorm at some point that afternoon. Florida is notorious for our daily summer afternoon thunderstorms. All shows have covered seating, however the show may be delayed or canceled if there is lightning. Rain is ok. The show will continue if it is just raining but lightning is not good, the show will probably be canceled. Florida summer storms usually roll in around 4:00. So if you get the 3 outdoor shows, Blue Horizons, Clyde and Seamore and Shamu Believe out of the way before 4:00, you should be good. Pets Ahoy and Alure will not be affected by weather because they are indoor theaters. You may get really lucky and it may not rain at all! But its better to plan to be safe than sorry!

After Believe, there is another great restaurant called Mango Joes outside of Shamu Stadium. They serve chicken wraps, chicken sandwiches, Steak sandwiches, great deserts and salads. Also outside of Shamu Stadium is Wild Arctic. Wild Arctic is a motion simulator ride that makes you feel as if your in a helicopter on your way to the arctic. Following the ride, there is a Beluga Whale, Walrus and Polar Bear exhibit. You can also view this exhibit if you choose not to ride. There is a non motion Wild Arctic movie that can be viewed before the exhibit instead. Next to Wild Arctic, is Shamu's Happy Harbor. This is a giant play area designed for kids your daughters ages. There is a giant play net and rides designed just for kids as well as an arcade and games area. They will want to spend the rest of the day there.

Following Happy Harbor, make your way back towards the Sealion and Otter show to see the exhibits that you missed on your way to Shamu Believe. One area of interest would be the new "Sea Garden." This is a garden that will feature animal trainers offering interactions and photo ops with some unique animals from around the world. Another exhibit is the shark encounter. The shark encounter is a big exhibit that may take sometime. And its indoors, so if it starts to rain, this would be a great place to hang out until the storm passes or calms down. Pets Ahoy is located near Shark Encounter. So its only a short distance to run if its raining, or walk if its sunny. I would suggest the 6:15 Pets Ahoy show. You and your kids will love Pets Ahoy. It features animals that Seaworld has rescued from local animal shelters. It is truly a great cant miss show in my opinion. Remember, this show is indoors so you dont need to worry about weather!

The Sealions tonight show is located right next to the Pets Ahoy show. So if you decide to stay late, it will be worth it! The shows are at 6:45 and 8:15. If you choose to do the 6:15 Pets Ahoy, you can barely make the 6:45 show. You may not get a good seat though. If you decide to wait for the 8:15 show, check out the dolphin nursery located around the corner from pets ahoy. There are also some great places to pick up souvenirs next to Pets Ahoy as well. You may even want to ride the skytower. However the skytower is an additional charge. I believe its somewhere between $3 and $5 a person to ride. Im not sure of the exact cost. Sealions tonight is a funny spoof of the Seaworld day shows. I suggest seeing all the day shows before seeing sealions tonight. Because it will be hard to understand if you havent seen all the shows. However, it will be hilarious if you have seen all the day shows.

If your up for it, head back to Shamu Stadium for the 9:15 Shamu Rocks show. This is a high energy rock and roll type show. Its very popular and in my opinion, alot better than Shamu Believe. The 9:15 show will not fill up the stadium so you will probably get a good seat.

The fireworks are immediately following the Shamu Rocks show. You have about 5-10 minutes to get to Bayside stadium for the best viewing. Bayside stadium is located right next to Shamu Stadium so its a short walk. You can also view them as you exit the park. They are pretty much viewable from most locations.

Now there is another section of park that my suggestion doesnt cover, so if you decide, you could come back Friday morning to cover the last bit. This part of the park includes the rides Journey to Atlantis and Kraken. Kraken is a floorless rollercoaster and Journey to Atlantis is a water ride through the lost city of Atlantis featuring a big drop and a surprise ending. Also in this section of the park are the Manatees and Alligators. This is only a small section so it wont take you long. If you decide to come back, you could always see any shows you loved and want to see again.

Just some quick points. The meal plan is a great idea especially if your planning to stay all day. A'lure is another show that I didnt cover in my suggestion. A'lure is an acrobatics show. Its not a "Must See" however, its indoors and can be a nice relief from the Florida sun or Florida thunderstorms. Every show is atleast 15 minutes long with no show being longer than 30 minutes. Blue Horizons is probably the longest at about 30 minutes and Pets Ahoy is the shortest at around 15-20 minutes.

I hope you and your family have a great time. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask, I would be happy to help!

Wow! Thanks so much for being my travel planner! :goodvibes That looks like an awesome plan - I haven't looked at the Sea World maps yet and hadn't figured out where everything was located. We definitely don't want to be crisscrossing the park and running to get places in time. We want to enjoy a relatively relaxed day and still see as much as we can.

Thank you so much! :goodvibes

No problem! I love helping first time visitors plan their day! I know your family will have a great time!

Here is a map of Seaworld Orlando off of the parks official site. Its not the best map in the world but it will give you a better idea of exhibit and show locations.

Hey StitchandPooh'smom,

We are going to SeaWorld that same week, too. Not sure on which days yet. Just started planning. It's a surprise last minute trip for my girls.

KBF - thanks for the plan, I may have to follow it exactly :worship:

Just a heads up, Seaworld has changed show times for the month of July. There is only 1 Shamu Rocks show at 8:30 now. One Sealions tonight at 7:15. The first Believe show is at 12:30 not 11:00. I would suggest continuing to follow the schedule up until your visit to check if show times change.

Thanks! Off to reprint the show schedule for our date!

Interesting - there are still four Believe shows - they just start later. I wonder why that is? I guess the whole park will move together from Sea Lions Tonight to Shamu Rocks!

From what I have heard, they are trying to fit all the Shamu shows into a 8-10 hour day so that no overtime has to be given to employees working shows.

Makes sense, I guess. It still sounds like a long day for the people doing all those shows!

hi! hope you have an amazing time at sea world!

i just wanted to add that you should check out the dolphin feeding times as soon as you get into the park! I know in the past couple of years SW has updated the way the dolphin cove has operated. previously you could of interacted with the dolphins at any time and just walked up to the pool and play(i miss those days!) but now i believe EACH person who wants to feed the dolphins has to buy their own individual trays ($7) and then are allowed into the feeding area. The last time i visited there was a small area for non-feeders but the dolphins are smart, they know they wont be fed over there. before college, i went to seaworld almost every weekend so this was a disappointment when i returned for the first time a year later and the price of fish trays went up and the policy had changed. however, it allows for a less amount of people pushing to try to feed. much better opportunity for pictures! also if one of the members of your party doesnt mind sitting out, i recommend having them stand on the other side or on top of the underwater viewing (anywhere the photographers are that is accessible to the public) for really good picture opportunities. it is possible but sometimes quite difficult to get pictures from the wall!

But back to what I originally wanted to point out, make sure you bring lots of extra $ for dolphin food as this is normally the highlight of everyones day and you dont want to miss out on this! my boyfriend and I had to debate between feeding ourselves or the dolphins lunch (the dolphins won to the dismay of the boyfriend :goodvibes )

KBF - I've looked over your suggested touring plan and I think it's great but I have one question for you? I have a DD5 and she will probably want to see the Elma and Abby show. What do you think of this plan?

Blue Horizons at 10am
Elmo and Abby at 12:15 - How long is this show?
Lunch
Believe at 2:30
Clyde and Seamore at 3:45

or should we try to get to the 10:45 show from the Blue Horizons if that works better. I know we may be a little rushed but that will be okay. We will have two days to explore and I like to get the day shows out of the way the first day and just do the late afternoon/night shows the 2nd day.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Rides won't be a factor, my DD11 won't ride by herself and its just me and girls this trip.

TIA

Your plan looks great! If you do the 10:00 Blue Horizons, and then try to catch the 10:45 Elmo show, you wont get in. Since there are only 2 of the Elmo and Abby shows, and the theater in which its held is incredibly small, most seats are taken right away for the 1st show.

You can take your time after the Blue Horizons show, maybe go feed the dolphins if you havent already done so, you could look at the sting ray and turtle exhibit near the Blue Horizons show. You could go in the Manta Aquarium. You are able to go in the aquarium even if no one in your group is riding. There is a dolphin nursery where the baby dolphins are kept which is near the Elmo show. Maybe you could even take a trip on the sky tower which is located right outside the Elmo show.

Make sure you visit Shamu's happy harbor some time on your visit. Your daughters will love the giant play area. You may also want to consider the Pets Ahoy show. Its a big hit with young kids. This show is held in the same theater as the Elmo show which is why there are only 2 Elmo shows in the morning. BTW, the Elmo show is about 15-20 minutes in length.

Hope You and your girls have a great time!

Hi I would like to take your word for the help. We are planning to visit SW the week after Christmas. We are a party of 5, 3 year old triplets and hubbie and me. Hubbie and I have been to SW but its a first for the triplets. Should we stick to your plan or do you have any other advice. We were planning on seeing Elmo, since they love it. Not planning to go to Manta or Kraken of course, but may visit Journey if it is not too scary. The kids LOVE animals, will probably enjoy the exhibits a lot. And we have a second visit free, so we could go two times, not sure. Help please.

Hi Anapaulina! I would be more than happy to help you with your plan. Let me start off by saying that its such a good thing that you have the 2nd visit free. You will be visiting Seaworld on the busiest week of the of the year. Ive come up with an alternate Idea for you because of this. Expect near 30,000 people in the park on the day of your visit. Still, im sure you and your family will enjoy your visit despite the large crowd size.

The good thing about visiting the week after Christmas, is Seaworld will still offer its Christmas shows and events throughout the park. The majority of these shows take place at night. In the plan, I've split your visit into two days. One visit in the morning and one visit at night. I'm sure with three little ones, you wouldn't want to stay from park opening at 9am until park close at 11pm. That's a pretty long day.

For your frist day, I would recommend getting to the park as close to 9am as possible. The wave of people will start coming in around Noon, so this should give you a few hours before the majority of people arrive at the park. Unfortunately, the show schedule for December hasn't been released yet, however, I'm going to use the schedule from July 4th as a guide. The July 4th schedule is a pretty good estimate as to show times for the busier time of the year when your going, since July 4th week is the 2nd busiest week of the year.

Here is the show schedule for July 4th......
http://www.seaworld.com/ParkHours.aspx?LocationID=1&ScheduleID=40363

The difference with the shows, would be there is no "Shamu Rocks" show. This show is changed to "Shamu's Christmas Miracles." There is no "Sealions tonight". This show is changed to "Clyde and Seamore Countdown to Christmas." There is no "Elmo and Abbys treasure hunt." This show is changed to "Elmo and Abbys Christmas celebration" Finally, the fireworks show "Reflections" is changed to "Holiday Reflections" and there is an extra added night show which is "Seaworld on Ice" which is an ice skating show located at Bayside stadium.

Now for the plan......

Like I said, I would suggest that you get to the park as close to 9am as possible. From park opening, I would head over to feed the dolphins. I would do this first because its obviously very popular and will get very crowded the later you go in the day. From feeding the dolphins, I would head over to the 10:00 Blue Horizons show. Following the show which should end around 10:30, I would take the time to view some the exhibits around the show like the Sting Ray Lagoon and Turtle Point. The Manta Rollercoaster has a very nice aquarium that is accessible to all visitors whether they ride the roller coaster or not. All these things are on your way to the Elmo show. Around the corner from the Elmo show is the Dolphin Nursery where there are baby dolphins and mothers. From there, head into the 12:15 Elmo Christmas show located at Seaport Theater. Keep in mind the busyness of the day and the show will fill up very quickly. Since there are only 2 chances to see this show, I would recommend getting there as early as possible. You can always go back and do some of the exhibits later in the day. I would recommend being outside the theater around 11:30-11:45.

The good thing about the time your going, is Seaworld is filled with Christmas decor and costumed characters dressed as elves, or Santa Claus which provides a great photo op for kids. Some of these photo ops are located right outside the Seaport Theater where the Elmo Christmas show takes place. So take some time after the show to check out some of the Christmas Decor.

Following your photo ops, it would be a good idea to stop for a lunch break. There are great places to eat where you will be located in the park. Voyagers smokehouse provides bbq chicken and ribs and Seaport Pizza is right around the corner and provides Pizza or chicken fingers. There are fresh salads and fruit at both locations.

After your lunch break head on over to catch the 2:15 showing of "Clyde and Seamore take Pirate Island" Following the show, there are great exhibits that your kids would really enjoy. The Sealions are located right outside the stadium. The Penguin encounter is located nearby. This is where you will also find Journey to Atlantis. The ride height requirement is 42 inches. So it may be difficult for children your kids ages to ride. However, there is another aquarium of Jellyfish and fish located at the ride which non riders as well as riders could enjoy. If your kids do meet the height requirement that would be a bonus. Journey to Atlantis is pretty much like Splash Mountain only with a surprise ending. Keep in mind also that even though it is Florida, there are rare days where it does stay very cold in late December into early January so getting wet may not be the greatest idea and you may get soaked on the ride.

Next, head over to the manatee and Alligator exhibits which are located right around the corner from Journey to Atlantis. If you decide to skip the earlier Sting ray and Turtle exhibits to get to the Elmo show instead, this would be a great time to visit those exhibits since they are near this area. From there head back towards Clyde and Seamore where you will find the Pearl dive where for a small fee, you can have a diver pick an Oyster from the bottom of the pool and bring it up. You get whatever is inside the Oyster which is guaranteed to have a pearl. Sometimes if your lucky you get two pearls inside. Younger kids sometimes enjoy interacting with the divers as they dive for oysters and you can watch even if you decide not to buy an Oyster. The skytower is located next to Pearl dive which will give you and your kids a great view of the park. This is an extra charge of $3 a person, however, kids 3 and under may get on for free. Im not 100% sure if this is the case, but it would be good to find out once you arrive.

To finish day one, I would suggest seeing either the 4:45 or 6:15 viewing of "Pets Ahoy" depending what time it is when you finish all the exhibits on day one. Your kids will love seeing dogs and cats, and even a pig perform in this awesome show. The neat thing about this show is all the animals were rescued from the local animal shelter. The "Pets Ahoy show is located right next to the skytower, in the same theater as the Elmo Christmas show was in. This is why there are only two Elmo shows each day.

I would call it a day after that. Go back to where you are staying and relax a bit. Then come back for day two....

On your second day, plan to get to the park sometime after noon. Around 2:00 would be a good bet. For the second day, you can head over to the other side of the park. The first thing you could do is head over to the "Polar Express Experience." This is a motion simulator ride that is set to scenes from the popular movie, "Polar Express" and its special only to the Christmas season. In the non Christmas seasons it is a motion simulator ride called "Wild Arctic" which is simulates your journey on a helicopter through the arctic. There is an area for young kids or people who dont want to ride which plays a short movie and you skip the ride all together. Following the ride or movie, you will enter the Beluga whale, Polar Bear, and Walrus Exhibits. You will also find a special photo op with Santa Claus himself!

Following the ride, head over to Shamu stadium which is located right across from "The Polar Express experience" for the 4:00 showing of "Believe" It would be a good idea to get to the stadium an hour before show time, again since it will be very busy and the show will fill up fast and you will want to get a good seat. Following the show, I would recommend heading over to "Shamu's Happy Harbor" this will be a HUGE hit with your kids. Its located right behind Shamu Stadium and has a massive play net and kids area where they can play. They will probably want to stay there all day. There are small rides designed for young kids that im sure they would enjoy. There are also places to eat right there. One of my favorites its "Mango Joes" which serves chicken or steak sandwiches, fruit, and salads. Another nice place to eat is "The Terrace" This serves all kinds of sandwiches, stews, fruits, and salads. This is also located near happy harbor and its indoors incase its cold outside it could be a nice relief.

Following the play area, head to the Sealion and Otter Stadium. But on your way, make sure to check out the "Animal Connections Sea Garden" which will have more photo ops with costumed characters and there may be a photo op with exotic animals from around the world. You will also pass by the Shark Encounter. Make sure to stop in to see all kinds of sharks, poisonous fish, and even some frogs! The shark encounter is right next to the Sealion show.

Next, check out the 7:15 showing of "Clyde and Seamore Countdown to Christmas" it will obviously be a different show than the Sealion and Otter Day show. And its obviously Christmas themed. I would suggest getting there atleast 45 minutes- 30 minutes early for the best seat. Again, with only 2 showings, the stadium will fill up quickly. If you get there earlier, you could always go back and see the Penguin or Sealion exhibit again.

Following the show take this time to view the Christmas decor again. Only this time, everything will be lit up in an unbelievable display of lights. You can find the lights outside Sealion and Otter Stadium, over to Seaport theater, and throughout the waterfront area. There are certain times at night where it will "Snow" in the waterfront area. Your next stop will be Shamu Stadium for the night show, "Shamu Christmas Miracles" make sure you head across the bridge this time so you will see all the amazing Chrismtas decor around the lake on on the bridge.

You will be arriving for the 2nd viewing of the "Shamu Christmas Miracles" which is at 9:45. This wont be as crowded as the first show. But still plan to be at the stadium atleast 30 minutes early. Before the show, there is Christmas Karaoke where you can sing along to popular Christmas songs. There will also be a saxophonist that comes out to play about 10 minutes before show time. This show is also different from the Shamu day show. And it is Christmas themed as well.

Following the show, head over to Bayside stadium, located around the corner from Shamu stadium. Here you will find the 10:30 showing of "Seaworld on Ice" This iceskating show may not be of interest to you kids, however, the fireworks show, "Holiday Reflections" starts literally a minute after the ice skating show ends and the best place to see the Fireworks show is at Bayside stadium. So you could just stay in your seat and enjoy the fireworks.

I hope this plan works for you. And I hope your able to do the 2nd day. But please, please please check in with guest services sometime during your first day to make 100% sure that you can return free for a second day. If for some reason you cant go the 2nd day, you will be missing out on so much.

A few side notes, Each show is no longer than 30 minutes and no shorter than 15 minutes. Blue Horizons is the longest at about 30 minutes and Pets Ahoy is the shortest, around 15-20 minutes. A show I didnt mention is "Alure" This is an acrobatics show and im not sure your kids would enjoy it. It isnt a must see, but if your into acrobatics, I would check out this show at some point. As far as weather goes incase you dont live in Florida, it normally doesnt rain much in December or January and the temperature can be all over the place. One day it could be in the 70s and the next day it could be in the 40s. and then back up to the 80s the next day. So I would bring something warm to wear and something cool to wear just incase. Like I mentioned before, there are rare days where it is very cold. Early January this year we had 3 straight weeks where the temperature didnt get above 60. Which was very very rare but it could happen. We even had a small snow flurry which was exciting for a native Floridian to see. If by some chance it does rain, know that each show has covered seating. Believe, Clyde and Seamore and Blue Horizons are outdoors and A'lure, Pets Ahoy and Elmo are indoors. Thunderstorms are rare that time of the year, but if it does happen, there is a chance the show may be delayed or canceled. If it just rains, its ok. But if there is lightning, you may be out of luck. So prepare for that just incase.

Finally, here is a park map off Seaworlds official site which will help you better understand where shows and exhibits are.

I hope you and your family have a great time! Please feel free to ask any more questions you may have. I would love to answer them for you! Hope this plan works for you! :)

Thanks again..

PS Are you also a Disney know it all???

Im glad to see the plan is helpful!

I know some things about Disney, not as much as Seaworld, but I can try to help you there if you have any questions. I have some friends that work at Disney so maybe I can pass along your questions to them and they can answer them for you. :)
